Although her father was against Caroline not having an education there was nothing he could do. her mother was absent a lot because of her job, so when her mom was not there, her father would try and teach some stuff to her or would include her in her brothers lessons .Caroline Herschel was struck with Typhus which stopped her from growing Caroline was only four feet tall and never grew past that. When Caroline Herschel father died her brother William requested her to go live in Bath, England. August 16, 1772 she accepted and left to England with her brother. In her brother’s house Caroline was responsible for the house’s maintains and keeping it clean. William taught his petite sister music and helped her develop her voice. Though she would only sing where her brother conducted, she was well regarded in her own right throughout the opera houses in England.(womanastronumer.com p 1) Later on her brother becomes interested in astronomy Caroline was always on her brothers side so decided to also go into astronomy with him. She got a gold medal of the royal astronomical society in 1828 and Prussian gold medal for science. She was very hardworking and dedicated her life to astronomy William discovered Uranus in 1781. August 1, 1786 Caroline identified object traveling slowly through night sky. It was a comet. Caroline that day became the first woman to discover a comet. The first comet she discovered was named Herschel. She discovered 8 comets in all. She was the first women to become very important and famous in the astronomy field. I think Caroline had a very hard life and she went through a lot Caroline teaches us that no matter how hard you should never quite trying if she would of stopped maybe she would of never got where she got. 1787 the year king George lll provides an annual salary to Caroline this was something she had always craved to have her own salary. Following William's death in 1822, Caroline returned home to Germany and continued to work on their catalog of nebulae (Space.com p 1). ‘Royal Astronomical Society’ presented her with a Gold Medal for her contributions in the field of astronomy. She was elected to an honorary membership at the ‘Royal Astronomical Society’ in 1835.She was also elected as a fellow at the ‘Royal Irish Academy’ in 1838.Herschel was awarded the Gold Medal for her contributions in science by the King of Prussia in 1846.Herschel discovered three new nebulae.(thefamouspeople.com p 1).
