Career shadow day was a great opportunity that made me question possible careers for myself. I shadowed Sean Spotts, an employee at Siemens Industry Inc. He is a Mechanical Engineer, or someone who applies physics and material science to design or maintenance of mechanical systems. Even though he is not in my goal career of architecture, through him, I got a glimpse of how mechanical engineering and architecture can go hand in hand. I shadowed him during a trade show on April 27th. After shadowing Sean Spotts and seeing his work life, I have come to the conclusion that architecture is more than just design, but also has components of engineering, a fact I am sound with.
I shadowed Sean Spotts on an irregular day, a trade show that was outside of the normal workplace. Here, he had to show off Siemens products and talk to customers. In normal conditions, the day consisted of much of the same actions except with more set goals. He would have to meet with customers or future

Spotts even had a hard time answering “What do you like least about your work?” All he could could come up with is the tedious paperwork, which comes with any job. On the positive side, he has enjoyed meeting new people, through co-workers, clients, and others. Also, he has been to multiple “cool buildings” and new places when he went through job training programs. What he found through this training is the needed skills for his job. Teamwork is a bid aspect because sometimes Siemens is trying to sell a whole system to a customer and coworkers from different sectors have to collaborate to create a whole and well thought out product. Along with teamwork, communication is key, whether it be with customers, coworkers, or an audience for a speech. Finally, critical thinking is necessary because every project is different from the last and brings up different obstacles. Spotts learned this skill through previous
Shadowing physicians with drastically different doctoring styles and personalities helped me understand more than just the daily workload but also which doctoring style I prefer. I also learned that physicians need to work as a team with other physicians, nurses, medical staff and patients. I glimpsed at their busy schedules and found that physicians worked in the wards and in the clinic, took on-call duties every other weekend, filed their own billing and charting, covered each other, while still making time for their families. Being exposed to this has helped solidify my aspirations to one day become an effective and balanced physician. I aspire to be a physician who remembers the details, takes time to discuss treatment, and has a broad
The career I chose to undertake as my profession is that of a mechanical engineer. Why do I want to become a mechanical engineer? Well, for starters, I would be able to design, build and possibly repair many various machines and other technologies that are complex. These technologies can range from being already in use on a global scale to new, futuristic designs that are highly technical. Also, this career includes being a sort of jack-of-all-trades, where I would possess knowledge in mathematics, physics, etc. Finally, this career offers me the chance to expand outside my immediate area since mechanical engineers are well desired around the globe as well.
Career shadowing class because I completed the prerequisites, maintained good grades in all of my classes, and try my best in everything that I do. Career shadowing would enable me to learn about the medical field in a way I never have before, it would allow me to gain extra insight into the medial setting and allow me to confidently work towards a career in medicine.
On July 28, 2017, I went to South Pointe Cleveland clinic hospital to do my shadowing experience. I shadowed a registered nurse in PCCU (Progressive Cardiac Care Unit), on the fifth floor in the patient’s hall. While in there I got a chance to see the actual duties and responsibilities of a nurse. A typical work day of a registered nurse in PCCU is sharing information and report about the patient from the previous nurse who is in charged with the patient, monitor patient’s health status, give them medication, chart the patient’s assessment, etc. having a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing and CPR certified is required to be qualified to be able to do this career.
I did my job shadowing on the Monday of fall break at the Semmes Murphey place with Marilyn Newson. I learned so much more about this new side of nursing I did not know that even existed. Marilyn job title is an infusion nurse manager where she gives medicine and fluids to patients through injections. She is the only one with this job title in the clinic so she is a manger as well. When I first entered the room I noticed that it was set up just like a dialysis place would be the recliner chairs and IV backs to the side and TV playing.
I feel like the Career Academy classes definitely did a very good job of introducing us into what college is going to be like. Especially with the deadline on Sunday nights. With normal high school classes, you are able to push things off and not do them and then also turn them in late and still receive credit. This caused me to really learn how to use my time more wisely and not give up any extra time that I have. It also gave me a much better perspective on what working with an online teacher is really about. I know that next year I will be taking more college classes on line so this class helped me to know what I will need to do for next year.
Within society, there are many occupations to explore and chose. The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) results showed that my personal career strengths fall under the area of teaching and counseling. Currently, as a school counselor for a high school in Duncanville, Texas, a suburb outside of Dallas, I find the results of the assessment to be very accurate. Making the decision to become a counselor is a rewarding and exciting career choice. In the world of counsling, there are many individuals who place emphasis on not just basic implications, but also on theoretical studies that usually are a part of
I attended the second day of the Winter Engineering Career Fair as an observer. I was immediately overwhelmed by the sheer number of people in attendance. I weaved my way through crowds of people waiting anxiously in line. My first impression of the career fair was that it was filed with a lot of professionally dressed students who were extremely nervous. A lot of them were speaking to themselves, going over their introductions and elevator pitches. People in line were not talking to one another, and most kept rechecking their files to- I’m assuming- make sure they had their resumes and cover letters. I was quite surprised to see this. I had the preconceived notion that people who attended career fairs were older and extremely confident individuals.
The theoretical career development framework that I chose to assist in Catherine’s career counseling process is Donald Super’s counseling theory. I decided to chose this particular career development framework because I thought it would be the most effective and appropriate to use with the client. The client is thirty-seven years of age and is dealing with a lot on her plate. Equally important, people grow and change throughout their lives and this theory respects that.

On September 16, 2016 I was given the opportunity to job shadow at Shear Perfections in Collins, MS. My mentor was Misty Page, a hair and makeup artist. She was accompanied by her co-owner and they both assisted in making my job shadowing experience wonderful. Misty set up the entire shop before I arrived and my mother was there to guide me. Doing the job shadowing helped me answer questions I would have never been able to answer on my own. Overall, the environment, clients, and experience was something I can not forget.
As the labor force continues to grow and the job market becomes more competitive, it becomes increasingly important to stand out from the rest of the applicants. At a career fair this could not be more true as one needs to prove their competence and establish a lasting impression while participating in an event with numerous candidates. The career fair is a valuable tool and if the applicant is prepared correctly, can be very successful.
After taking that career survery we took last week for this course I have recently looked into becoming a construction manager which appeared on my list in the career survey assignment. The degree required to become a construction manager is a bachelor's in science or civil engineering. One of the things I could do that would help me become a construction manager would be is to gain some construction experience through something like an internship. Another thing I need to do is to find an Unversity that you can pursue a bachelor's in science degree
Life happens in a blink of an eye. Changes in life can be threatening and scary to some, but I vision it as an opportunity for a new beginning of an adventure. My future holds a lot of potential from my diligence, integrity, and leadership, and these opportunities will shine in my career. One opportunity that I want to receive in my lifetime is earning the position as an engineering manager at a high-end company. The reason I would want this transformation in my life is that I can demonstrate all my potential through my hard work and have the positive impacts of a manager.
What is the importance of goals? Do goals help you plan out your future? Or possibly give you something to work for? To me goals provide a map of what I want to do, how I’m going to do it, and why I want to do it. Goals also provide a sense of accomplishment when you finally get to finish whatever you’ve been working towards. The need for goals in life is clear, because without goals, we wouldn’t get much done. Simply because of the fact that there wouldn’t be anything to work towards, and no structure to our future. One of my most important goals is to graduate college, to get a career in psychology. This goal is extremely important to me because of the fact that not many people in my family have even finished high school.
