On September 16, 2016 I was given the opportunity to job shadow at Shear Perfections in Collins, MS. My mentor was Misty Page, a hair and makeup artist. She was accompanied by her co-owner and they both assisted in making my job shadowing experience wonderful. Misty set up the entire shop before I arrived and my mother was there to guide me. Doing the job shadowing helped me answer questions I would have never been able to answer on my own. Overall, the environment, clients, and experience was something I can not forget. When I first walked in I was very nervous. I had never job shadowed before and it was so new. However, as soon as Misty saw me, she gave me a big smile and made me feel at home. She had just arrived so she decided to give me a few pointers while I interviewed her. Her business partner Emily also made me feel welcomed. The whole room was inviting and warm. It made me understand why her clients return to her after their appointments. Her large smile and bubbly personality could strip anyone of hate toward the world. The love she had for her job was contagious and I soon began to laugh and enjoy the gossip around me that is normally associated with a salon. …show more content…
I had my reservations about the job shadowing but now that I have done it, I feel that it is beneficial. We started out by going through her tools and cosmetic products she uses everyday. Then her first client came in. It was an older man and he needed his beard trimmed. She showed me how to properly groom a beard. After the man was done, two boys came in. The younger of the two wanted his hair cut just like Jared Leto’s Joker. While Misty cut his hair she showed me different techniques. Ultimately, for such a new haircut, she nailed it. After the boys, she let me bleach a part of a woman's hair. At home I bleach my mothers so I was prepared for the strong ammonia

How would you describe this interview? Did it go well or were there any problems you encountered? Please describe:
I’m met with a quick handshake paired with a welcoming smile - we’ll be speaking whilst Michael colors a customer’s hair. She’s a good sport and ready to hear Michael candidly speak about his life. Their easy conversation tells me that she’s a regular, probably long time, customer who trusts this man with her image.
For my shadowing in a dental office, I chose to shadow at Crest Smile Shoppe. I chose here because my mom regularly goes here for herself and the team members there said I was more than welcome to come in their office and shadow whoever.
In addition, you volunteered to have a new worker shadow you in June 2016 as well. Katrina you usually go above and beyond mere shadowing with working with new employees. Katrina you take the time to explain to the new worker all actions you take. You give excellent background information and related policies with a pleasant attitude, thus providing the new employee with excellent and valuable know-how for her job. Katrina you maintained a great working relationship with co-workers, outside entities and your supervisor, whom you kept informed of all pertinent issues. Katrina you always responded to inquiries, as they were received and handled stressful situations calmly. Katrina you immediately accepted and acted on the assignment to make wellness calls to 7 clients on 6/17/16 to check on heat related issues.
All throughout it, I was learning so much about Billie’s position and it even cleared many of my previous misconceptions in the process. I do find it all very interesting, and I wouldn’t mind pursuing that area of work. Of course, I probably wouldn’t be able to have her specific job since she has the only position in Eastern Oregon and she isn’t planning on retiring for another 27 years. Something I found really fascinating was how Billie always said that she absolutely loves her job and it is the best job in the world. Not only did she say that, but several of her coworkers basically said the same thing about their own positions. It didn’t seem like anyone one there dreaded coming to work, and I thought that was one of the best qualities anyone could ask for in a workplace. In all, I had a great time job shadowing Billie and I feel it was a great learning
For my job shadow I went to the University of Sioux Falls! There I was introduced to Joe Obermueller who is the Assistant Professor and Director of theatre. I arrived at the University of Sioux Falls November 15th. I think it was extremely interesting that Obermueller was a professor and a director. Having both of those responsibilities would be exceptionally stressful, Obermueller has two things that he has to focus on in his career. He has to make sure that the academic side is tip-top and people are learning what they need to. But, he also has to focus on the upcoming production that requires an abundance of work which causes him to stay at the school until the late hours of the night.
For my third essay, I interviewed a cosmetologist (Salon) assistance. Her name is Sunita Bhatt. I just met her once before and the last Saturday I met her again for the interview. I asked so many questions to her and me also showed her at her workplace.
My job shadowing experience was at lane Bryant to help me understand retail and learn about my future job. It opened my eyes to things I didn’t know, I understood a lot after the shadowing. It made me make the decision to stick with fashion; I got a lot of needed information from my job shadowing. Fashion is a big deal to me, and this job shadowing helped me take a step close to my passion. Lane Bryant helped me take a look at my future career.
Last week, I was looking for a place to do my hair, makeup, and nails because I was invited to a very important event. All of a sudden, I remembered that a friend of mine had a beauty salon here in Yuma. While driving, I stopped by the local and went inside. The beauty salon is very small but, it has everything it needs. The local size is very similar to a classroom of AWC. All four walls are painted light pink, which gives light to the place. They are four people working, including my friend. Each person has his or her own space to work. Also, they have a lot of pictures on the walls and magazines of the work they do.
I job shadowed at the Eich Law Office in Hartford, South Dakota. One of my favorite things in the world is writing books, but sadly, I wasn’t able to job shadow with authors. Instead, I job shadowed with a bunch of Lawyers! I first got to meet Robin Eich who is the head person in this company, which I thought was pretty cool! We went into a conference room to answer some questions I had with her. The room was really fancy, it was definitely a conference room, even though that day I saw only 3 people in the building. After the questions she brought me a huge packet, maybe 50 pages, and had me read through it. It was their rule book. Personally I don’t know why they had me read it. It was interesting I guess, reading it made me tired. While I
If the workplace of today could be characterized by a single theme, it would most likely focus on the continual presence of change. Dramatic changes in technology, the marketplace and the workforce have compelled organizations to re-evaluate not only the competitiveness of their products, but also the core ways in which work is performed. It is out of this pursuit for continued survival that organizations have been faced with the notion of varying work-schedules beyond the traditional hours of nine to five. This paper will explore the societal and business changes that have led to a proliferation in flexible work patterns. This paper will also address the benefits and disadvantages of flexible work patterns for
I see my weekly client come in and sit on my chair. “The usual”, he tells me casually. I nod my head and begin to pick up my clippers. Before I know it I see a line of eager people anxiously waiting to hear the words “Who’s next?” Yeah, it’s a tough job but somebody has to keep the clients looking their best. That is why I decided to become a hairstylist. The idea of cutting hair has always been a dream for me ever since I was a small child growing up. I would take my Barbie dolls and pretend I was a hairstylist and created all sorts of peculiar and weird hairstyles. I mean lets face it; my motive for cutting hair is to revamp people so they can feel confident about themselves on the outside as well as in the inside.
It wasn’t until the end of the day that Susan pulled me aside and gave me some good advice. In her words, “People in the store are going to drive you mad. They are the pickiest, finickiest folks I’ve ever seen. But if you keep a smile on your face, keep calm and do a good job, you’ll survive the day, and we’ll get along just fine.” Even though it wasn’t exactly the greatest advice ever, it was what helped me keep my sanity the whole season I was there. I made some good friends, good money and I realized that working isn’t as easy as it seems. But all in all, it was a good job, and a good
