INTRODUCTION
In this generation of American society, there is a great emphasis on living a healthy lifestyle from factors such as diet and exercise. Yet today many of the products that Americans use and consume are full of cancer causing agents. In a society where there is a vast amount of research conducted and strict regulations, many daily used products are like a time bomb ready to explode. One-third of all people will develop cancer in our lifetime and one-fourth will die from this disease. Many cancers are due to preventable revelations to industrialized carcinogens and toxins in the food people eat, and household products and cosmetics people use daily.
PRODUCTS KNOWN TO CAUSE CANCER IN HUMANS
Ironically many toxins that are put into foods don’t have to be there in the first place. Food is labeled for cholesterol, but not for carcinogens. Canned foods are one example of concern due to the can lining. The linings of the majority of all cans are made with a chemical called BPA

Formaldehyde is a known to be a human carcinogen. (Ntp.nies.nih.gov..,2016). This agent is used as a preservative and is a cancer causing agent. Product labels do not state if formaldehyde is present, even though the manufacturers use this to prevent mold and bacteria from growing and spoiling the products. The FDA does not restrict the amount of formaldehyde that can be present in cosmetics sold in the U.S. (Facts. G...Concern, C.. & Preservatives. F., 2016). According to the Food and Drug Administrations (FDA), 1 in 5 cosmetic products contain formaldehyde. A caution proclamation on products may be listed when some unsafe ingredients may be existent. For example, ingredients may be safe in products such as lotions when washed off your skin, but not safe when left on the skin for hours. Another example is ingredients that are safe for use on the hair or nails may be unsafe when used on skin or near the
The worst part about that finding is the fact that manufacturers are allowed to put whatever chemicals they desire in these products because of legislative loopholes. These days, we’re a lot more conscious of what we ingest but, we tend to put little emphasis in deciphering the items we apply on the surface. The skin is our largest organ that absorbs a substantial amount the items we put on it. If you care about the harmful ingredients lurking in your food, you should care about those hiding in your most frequently used personal care products, too. I’m not here to convince you to stop showering or applying deodorant, that would be absolutely foul but, I’m urging you to be more mindful about the products you use on your body strictly because there isn 't an agency out their assuring their safety, and they’ve been linked various health issues.
It has been proven that smoking is the cause of 30% of general cancer deaths and 80% of lung cancer deaths in the U.S. Lung cancer has also been found to be the biggest cause of cancer deaths among breast cancer, prostate cancer, and ovarian cancer. This year alone, 190,500 of about 600,900 cancer deaths will be caused by smoking tobacco. This means that one in every three cancer patients will die due to tobacco products. In fact, smoking tobacco caused such high amounts of lung cancer that tobacco companies are legally required to include a surgeon general’s warning that outlines the potential of developing cancer on their packaging. The numbers and warnings of smoking-related lung cancer can be seen everywhere from statistics to the companies themselves being held liable for the illnesses their products
The state of the American Health in the U.S has become an increasing concern of many Americans. An article entitled “11 Facts about American Eating Habits,” addresses the state of food in the U.S by stating, “Healthiness of the food we eat decreases by 1.7 percent for every hour that passes in the day.” Experts and scientists in the U.S has raised questions about regarding the different ways food is now being produced. While individuals are usually not aware of the ingredients that food contains, many people continue to have unhealthy eating habits. In the past few decades, food production has included numerous artificial ingredients that are said to be the cause of various health problems. Various artificial ingredients that are commonly
n the magazine article “Reducing the Risk of Cancer by Healthy Food Choices and Physical Activity” by Tim Crowe, readers learn how to prevent cancer through physical activity, dieting, and lifestyle changes. Physical activity, such as walking, swimming, running, and cycling, helps to prevent cancer by “20 to 40 per cent” and being active will also protect against a plethora of diseases. While activity is a great fighter against cancer, dieting, “a combination of good eating habits and food variety,” gives plenty of ways to prevent cancer and even make someone feel better about him or herself. In order to adapt to the lifestyle changes needed to prevent cancer, the World Cancer Research Fund, “the peak worldwide body tasked with studying cancer
Are the ingredients in vaccines safe for your child? Shane Ellison states that they are not, saying “Formaldehyde is just one of the many chemicals found in vaccines. And according to the FDA ‘excessive exposure to formaldehyde may cause cancer,’” [22]. Other ingredients in vaccines that tend to put people off are [15] mercury, an element that is poisonous to the nervous system and can be toxic at levels above 0.32 microgram a day for newborn babies, and aluminum which in excess can cause neurological harm. Some vaccines also contain chicken egg protein which, for children who are allergic to egg can be potentially harmful. Such chemicals can be cause for concern for parents but are not as dangerous as they first appear.
Lastly, the author states that the chemists had only tested for eight chemicals that cause dizziness and nausea, however there might be other chemicals responsible for the health issues which are present in the canned food. Since the food was not tested for these chemicals it is not possible to eliminate the fact that such chemicals might be present in the food. Unless the food is tested for such chemicals the conclusion that the canned food is not hazardous to health is dubious.
In our modernized world, the public is slowly starting to question the production of daily products or ingredients found in the food we consume. From literary works such as “The Jungle”, which exposed the unsanitary conditions of our red meat corporations to the documentary “Super-Size Me”, in which a man only consumes McDonald's for a 30-day period, the public, with the aid of technological advances have inquired about the purity of our food. Therefore, new legislation and regulations are being proposed by the United States of Department of Agriculture and organizations such as Center for Food Safety. Attempting to identify the types of chemicals utilized in products ranging from shampoo to our deli meats, the public, and other organizations are the foundation for transparent consumerism.
Formaldehyde is used as a preservative to stabilize the vaccine. It is used as a chemical to embalm dead bodies and preserve laboratory specimens. It has been classified as a known human carcinogen (cancer causing substance) and has been ranked as one of the most hazardous compounds on at least 8 federal regulatory lists. Formaldehyde is suspected of weakening the immune system and causing neurological system
Look around your community and look; most people are living unhealthy tonic lives. Common diseases like diabetes, obesity and cancer are more prevalent than they were in the past by an astoundingly large amount. Any thinking person must ask themselves are they getting the most of life? Although people may attain riches, fame, and honor all of it is like garbage if you’re unhealthy. You cannot buy health and happiness. Even if someone is very successful it doesn’t mean that this person is happy and healthy! Consumers thus should be concerned what they put in their bodies. The Food and Drug Administration is regulating food, but people are sicker now than they ever have been. Not only them, but the big pharmaceutical companies also play a role in this giving drugs to people to help their problems but end up with a host of other problems from their fix. With this project I hope to show how incompetent the Food and Drug Administration is by unveiling what synthetic vitamins really are, the chemicals used, and the comparison of how other countries handle the same food tampering.
A lot of cans contain a chemical known as BPA (bisphenol-A). This is found in the lining of many cans that are sold in grocery stores across the world. In a study published in 2013 by the Proceeding of the National Academy of Sciences, it was found that BPA affected the genes in the brains of rats. Tomatoes sold in cans should also be avoided, since they're known to have high acidity due to BPA leeched from the lining. Don't expect to see a BPA logo on cans - if it doesn't say BPA-free, then you can assume
“One out of every four deaths in the U.S. is from cancer. About 1.2 million new cancer cases are diagnosed in the U.S. annually and about 564,000 Americans will die of it each year-- more than 1,500 people per day” (GrowthHouse). The real question is, what causes cancer? Is it all genetic or do things that we use in our everyday lives cause cancer? There are so many different ideas of what actually causes cancer. There has been a great deal of research in labs to see what increases the risk of someone getting diagnosed with cancer. Research has shown that the effects of chemicals in laundry detergent, sunscreen, hair dye and alcohol are possible causes of cancer.
Formaldehyde is a gas that is used to preserve tissue and is used to kill viruses. Research conducted has provided evidence that exposure to large amounts of formaldehyde can be linked to cancer. Formaldehyde in small dosages poses little health concerns and mostly only affects those who suffer from extreme
(Huff) Many of the products have not been tested thoroughly. Even when the products are tested the results are not always direct and clear. Some ingredients in cosmetics are toxic if used in large amounts, but the amount of these ingredients are much less than the amount used in studies. Experts also do not know how much of the ingredient is absorbed into the body. Human studies of the long term effects of cosmetics do not exist, so there is little evidence of the risk of cancer from these products. This means that cosmetic companies cannot claim that these products are safe for use. Although, in the United Sates, cosmetics must be regulated by the FDA, so cosmetics must be safe, but the FDA does not have the authority to make companies test their products. The FDA will hold the companies responsible for the safety of their customers. Products that are not tested must have a label warning customers that the product has not been tested.
Over 65% of adult cigarette smokers claim that they wish they could quit permanently, according to a survey by the American Center for Disease Control (Smoking Cessation). This desire to cede from the addiction of smoking is in good reasoning, too. Even those who currently smoke know the dangers in such an unhealthy behavior, and everyone is familiar with the aura of disaster that comes along with cigarettes, but what exactly makes them so dangerous? Is it addiction; financial loss; psychological isolation? Try chemicals. Over four thousand chemicals have been identified in cigarette smoke, and, the worst part is, a great number of the same chemicals are found in America’s food, too (Wells). Just as cigarette tobacco absorbs harmful pesticides from the soil in which it grows, America’s grains, fruits, and vegetables do the same. Although not nearly all four thousand are commonplace in our everyday diet, these chemicals have recently drawn the concern of many consumers. Research studies conducted by distinguished scientists have found a vast amount of chemical residue in conventional foods. Eliminating these toxins from diets is quite easy: grow the food without pesticides. Organic and natural foods are superior to conventional foods in that they help preserve the environment and offer greater health benefits.
In many distinctive instants, change does not occur until something drastic happens; only then do people begin to come to awareness. According to “Physicians for Social Responsibilities”, environmental factors are estimated to be responsible for approximately 80% of cancer diagnosis and deaths in the U.S. alone. Children, animals, and life everywhere are suffering due to consequences of environmental hazards. The detrimental consequences of unprotected environments are much greater than many perceive; therefore, by limiting harmful methods of environmental destruction and raising awareness these consequences may be decreased.
