Perry stated, that the problem to fixing the campus shooting is not being solved correctly instead the government is making the process for obtaining guns much easier. Perry’s argument is solid because, he includes a personal attack that he received from a past student. Also he talks about the new law that is about to take place, which allows students to carry firearms on campus. He could have included some of his colleague’s thoughts on the issue as well, so that the readers can get more first-hand perspectives on the student’s violent
There is an influx of deadly shootings within the surrounding areas of the MTSU campus. The constant sound of police sirens is becoming the new norm. Although the university is the number one producer of graduates, according to the Tennessee Board of Regents, the increasing crime rate could be a deterrent for potential students. Over the past few weeks, there have been three nonrelated homicides at neighboring apartment complexes. Increased shootings in our neighborhood can be overcome with increased campus police presence and by restricting apartment access to students and faculty only.
Six months after the Columbine shooting in October, the sheriff's department agreed to share the evidence the have gathered. The killing was carefully planned, the boys put a small decoy bomb 3 miles away from the school in a field hoping to distract people from the events happening at the school. They got to the school at 11;15 with two duffel bags holding propane bombs. THe boys placed the bombs in the cafeteria and went back to their cars and waited. When the bombs didn’t go off as planned, they climbed to the top of the steps outside of the schools west entrance and started shooting. Once the two boys got back into the school hallways, they started throwing pipe bombs and shooting amnously. Once getting into the library, they shot at the
In the year of 2015, there were approximately 23 college campus shootings (Sanburn). While walking to class, students should feel safe and secure at all times. Because of the current gun control laws, it is hard to feel that way. There have been too many college campus shootings that result in an uneasy feeling while walking through campus, and that is simply not okay. The violence that is being caused each day because of guns has become unbearable. There have been several different occurrences in the past year of mass shootings in different areas. Guns are making everywhere an unsafe and risky place to be. Gun control is an issue that needs to be addressed during this election because these weapons are adding too much violence to the world and are the reason for the end of
In response to the multiple school shootings in recent years, most of the left's common sense is to take away firearms all together or to make access to them extremely hard. Bernie Sanders is the candidate I've heard speak mostly about helping the mental ill so these incidents do not happen as often, however a great argument is made here and in other studies that mental health isn't necessarily the culprit. What scared me most about the "Granovetter Theory" is that in time people with higher threshold levels will become more inclined to commit heinous crimes, as well as attempting to one-up the last. In addition, the crimes could go from a 20-person school shooting to bombing of a hotel with 2,000 occupants. As long as we keep going down this
On April 20, 1999, tragedy struck a Colorado high school. It started out as an ordinary spring day in Jefferson County, but it soon turned horrific. “The tragedy began at approximately 11:10 a.m. on that sunny Tuesday,” (Gimpel 27), right around lunchtime. No one could have anticipated the events that would soon follow, devastating the otherwise average suburban town. The lives of the students of Columbine High School and their families would never be the same after that catastrophic day.
On April 16, 2007, one of the most tragic incidents in the United States occurred on the campus of Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in Blacksburg, Virginia. Seung- Hui Cho, a senior at Virginia Tech ruthlessly murdered 32 people and wounded 17 others through the usage of firearms in two separate attacks. This incident is considered the deadliest shooting incident by a single gunman in the history of America. While people still mourn and pray for the victims, this shooting also led to many controversies. Till this day, Cho’s access to firearm and Virginia Tech’s security hazard remains to be controversial. The motive and cause of Cho’s action and what the school could have done in order to prevent this tragic incident will be addressed.
On a topic that we should have never wanted to go over, something that shouldn't be so dwelled upon as it is now today, do students feel safe in the school that they are attending? With all these atrocious mass school shootings that have happened so far this year of 2018 is quite oppressive. Parents are sending their kids to school not knowing if they are going to get to see them when the school day is finished, something a parent should never have to apprehend. Keeping the schools tended is a task that doesn't just happen over night, in my opinion, keeping schools secure is something that will happen over time. Putting out new gun laws isn't something we shouldn't be hassled over, for that reason, at the end of the day, the inferior people
Within 10 years, massive shooting seems to become more and more common and hot topic across the news, especially school massive shooting. School massive shooting is a severe social catastrophe, if we don’t solve this problem as soon as possible, it will threat the whole nation. The cause of these tragedies is controversial and various, but mainly caused by bullying, rejection from school, and mental

“A free people ought not only to be armed, but disciplined. ” -George Washington. School shootings have come to the forefront of our thought, especially in recent years, and people across the country are seeking the best way prevent future incidents. On one side you have those that believe more strict gun control laws and a higher presence of gun free zones is the optimum solution. This argument can be supported by the article "More Guns on Campuses Won’t Make People Safer, Researchers Say" By Jon Schuppe, where he quotes researchers from John Hopkins university stating that "Increasing gun availability in campus environments could make far more common acts of aggression, recklessness or self-harm more deadly and, thus, have a deleterious impact
Taking a look at the Columbine high school shooting and the Virginia Tech University shooting, they followed different and similar situations. When these events occurred they both reached the record of worst mass shootings in U.S. history. On April 20, 1999, the Columbine shooting occurred early morning in which most of the students had already filled the school. The columbine shooters intentions to murder the students at the school were pre-meditated and were determined to destroy as much lives as possible. As for the Virginia tech shooting, it occurred 4 days before the 8th anniversary of the columbine shooting in which the shooter also referenced the two columbine shooters, Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold. As the events developed throughout the morning, they both conquered one goal, fear amongst all students and faculty.
Between 1998 to 2001 there have been 10 school shootings involving 43 deaths and 60 wounded teachers and students (Hawley, 1). Based off of the Council of State Governments there were 33 states presented with bills related to arming teachers and staff but only Alabama, Kansas, Tennessee, South Dakota, and Texas passed laws (Murphy). These bills were presented after the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in Newtown, Connecticut. In the States of Utah and Rhode Island any adult with a concealed weapon permit can carry a firearm on school grounds.
A series of events involving guns has brought the United states to a realization that they might need to take action before more people get hurt. One event that has occurred among many is the shooting in Parkland Florida. On February 14, 2018 17 year old Nikolas Cruz took an AR-15 assault rifle into his former high school Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School killing 17 and wounding others. This was the deadliest school shooting since 2012 and Sandy Hook Elementary School. The government needs to keep guns out of people's hand that are not qualified or stable enough to own a gun, Also they government needs to create stricter requirements hand and or own a gun, Lastly, the government needs to to this to keep innocent adults and children safe.
