Ever imagine a person walking into the school with a weapon frightening isn’t It? Violence in school’s has been a uprising problem two shootings have happened in the same month march 2018 one in florida the other in maryland. Loudoun County should have at least 2 metal detectors in the main entrances and random baggage checks to ensure a maximum amount of safety. The first major shooting happened in florida, the shooter was a high schooler who later said that he killed the people that bullied him. The shooting in Maryland was another high schooler but when asked why he did it he gave no answer. Both of these kids had some mental issue/challenge and is proven to have a negative effect examples are suicide depressing/negative thoughts about
When thinking about school shootings names like Columbine and Sandy Hook pop up. Those are the most tragic by far, however everyone always ask why such a horrible crime happens, but no one has never stopped and researched why such hate crimes like those happen. Instead people resort to Channel 2 or Fox 5 for answers, not realizing that their story isn’t the full truth. I am truly against school shootings; looking for answers myself. If there’s one thing I’ve picked up from the media is how they portray school shootings with mental illness, but according to Alfred.edu/teen violence says, “They want to get back at those who hurt them or revenge.” Many adults always struggled to realize why things as vigorous as shootings happens; also fail to realize they are the start of something so tragic. There are several reasons that lead to a school shooting but only five are common.
In response to the multiple school shootings in recent years, most of the left's common sense is to take away firearms all together or to make access to them extremely hard. Bernie Sanders is the candidate I've heard speak mostly about helping the mental ill so these incidents do not happen as often, however a great argument is made here and in other studies that mental health isn't necessarily the culprit. What scared me most about the "Granovetter Theory" is that in time people with higher threshold levels will become more inclined to commit heinous crimes, as well as attempting to one-up the last. In addition, the crimes could go from a 20-person school shooting to bombing of a hotel with 2,000 occupants. As long as we keep going down this
Over the years, there has been many fatal shootings in schools. Many of these shootings have been caused from both genders, and all ages. This following fall 2016, the new “open carry” will be allowed at San Jacinto College, and I disagree with this decision. The new “open carry” will cause more danger in schools. “Open carry” law refers to the act of publicly carrying a gun on one’s person plain sight.
In the United States of America the right to bear arms gave birth to a phenomenon called the “gun culture,” the term coined in 1970 by a historian Richard Hofstadter, which describes America’s heritage and affection for weapons(1). Not only did gun culture become an inseparable part of American democracy, but also it is considered to be synonymous with independence and freedom, the most important values for American society. Even though the crime rate and murder rate in the U.S. is higher than in any other developed country, U.S. citizens oppose every attempt made to pass gun control legislation(2). However, it may sound like a paradox, but the crime level in the most liberal states, when it comes to gun ownership, is the lowest in the
Do you think prohibiting weapons would lessen crime? In this essay, there are lots of proofs supporting this side of the controversy. Some evidence would be the Columbine School Shootings and the University of Virginia incident. Also, public opinion would be a key factor, considering the percentage of Americans supporting this ban. The statistics to show why weapon ban would help reduce the number of crimes incorporating weapons into them.
School shootings used to be very rare. They were seen on the news, and read about in the newspaper, but nobody in upstate South Carolina ever thought one would occur nearby. On Wednesday, September 28, 2016, a young teenager released fire on innocent people at Townville Elementary School. It was unexpected, tragic, and downright devastating to everyone across the nation. The shooter, who also murdered his father before travelling to the elementary school, was charged with murder and three counts of attempted murder (Karimi). Being the child of an administrator in Townville Elementary’s school district made the dark reality of school shootings clearer. Some people think school shootings are not likely to occur in their area. However, school
Although violence in schools is nothing new, multiple shootings are. According to the 1999 Annual Report on School Violence, the number of such shootings increased from one in 1994-95 to five in 1997-98. Tragically, the epidemic of violence continued, and in December 1999, one television newscast called a shooting in Oklahoma the ninth
After researching more in depth about school shootings for my last write up, I decided that reading and learning about the reality of school gun violence was important. In the late 1990s there was a downward spiral of youth violence. Suburban areas stayed out of the spotlight, which helped keep the fear of school violence to a minimum and brush under the rug the violence. In non-suburban areas the majority were experiencing gun violence which led to fear in many peoples eyes. The typical schoolyard fights had turned into murders and much more dangerous. There was a line that mentioned students not bringing home homework anymore but coming home with bullet wounds. The amount of school shootings in these non-suburban areas was really reflecting
Unfortunately, school shootings and threats have become more common throughout the past 18 years. One of the first major school shootings that brought attention to gun violence in America was the shooting at Columbine High School in 1999. According to the U.S. History website state that two teens, Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold, went on a shooting spree throughout the school. After killing 12 students and one teacher, the boys then killed themselves. During the investigation on the boys motives, investigators came to the conclusion that most likely the shooting was connected to bullying because the boys were members of social outcast groups, and violence in video games. It is unfortunate that bullying may have been the cause of this awful event in history, but it is even more upsetting that school shootings like these, have happened again at an even worse
One of the issue is school shooting as of right now it is a huge controversial topic as many kids are being killed or injured by other kids. The definition of a school shooting is “An incident that occurs on school property when students, faculty and/or staff are on the premises. Intent during those times are not restricted to specific types of shootings. Incidents that take place on or near school property when no students or faculty/staff are present are not considered "school shootings." (). As the definition states it is what school shooting is and it can only happen in schools and colleges. As to why it occurs more than once a month is simply from the kids
The problem with society, is that people tend to wait for the problem to occur before making a change. Troubled children and teens have always existed but unfortunately now we’ve entered into an era where shootings are no longer just seen in action movies, it has now become a reality in our schools. Why do these children end up killing their classmates and why the number of school shootings in America have increased in the past several years? These articles try to give some kind of explanation into why these tragic accidents occur. As well as preventions that teachers, parents, and the community as a whole can partake in. This paper will focus on these two main ideas or themes.
The effort of this paper is designed to provide an audience with the basic framework in preventing, reacting to, and recovering from a school shooting. When a horrific incident like a school shooting takes place, people want answers. People want to know why the offender did what he or
In the mist of the chaos of school shootings and suicides. People are sadden and outrage with the individuals that commit these acts of violence. People often dim them as weak, monsters, worthless, and non-human. However people don't take the time to think, why do they comment these acts of violence. Many people believe that it stems from their mental health. Educational Leadership says depression is mostly diagnosed in adults. In “late adolescence is the most common age
“I still believe that there are enough good people on both sides of this issue who care more about protecting our kids than defending effortless access to guns for those who would do our kids harm,” he said. “I still believe we have the courage to change.” stated by former president, Barak Obama. An increasing number of children are hesitant or afraid to enter the halls of an educational facility such as a school due to the greater risk of school shootings. Students should never feel unsafe or endangered while acquiring their education, which is the most significant accomplishment in any person's existence. School violence is a major social issue which needs to be contained for students to feel the most sheltered environment as they secure an essential, their education.
