Ain't nobody like to be alone- Bruce Springsteen, “Hungry Heart” In 1980, Bruce Springsteen released a song called “Hungry Heart”. This song is a very gloomy in a sense. Bruce tells us a story about man who impulsively leaves his family and moves away. These lyrics “Everybody needs a place to rest/Everybody wants to have a home/ Don’t make no difference what nobody says/ Ain’t nobody like to be alone/ tells us that the man has regretted what he had done and wants to be back home. Every song he sang was different then what he usual performs. These songs told stories of sadness and his views on life itself. Some of these songs turned out to be big hits, and certainly made his listeners to think. This album is just as emotional as any novel or film. The narrators in the songs made us feel what they felt, especially in the “The River”. Dystopia Dystopia is considered to be an imaginary place or a state where everything in it is unpleasant or bad. A text that we have covered in this class that relates to dystopia is “Rumble Fish”. This story deals with characters who are struggling through their lives. The city and everything around them seems to low scale. Rusty James goes through his life trying to be like his older brother by fighting, drinking, smoking, and joining gangs. To me their lives seem to never get any better and are always stuck in different life problems. Pathos Pathos can be used to engage a reader or viewers feelings. They tend to be qualities that make people feel sympathy or sadness. Typically an appeal to pathos causes an audience to respond and identify what the writer feels. In The Shootist, John Wayne exemplifies pathos throughout the movie. Western movies are full of pathos that deals with characters facing life and death situations. In John Wayne’s case, death was coming to him whether he liked it or not with
