The song “Where Is The Love” by the Black Eyed Peas is a very heartfelt prayer for the healing and suffering in the world and society that we live in. I feel like the song is about exactly what the title is asking. Where is the love? Sometimes we have to stop, look around us and think about the relationships we have with other people. Are our relationships built on foundations of true love, compassion and kindness? Although the songs was originally released in 2003, most of the issues the song focuses on are still relevant today, in 2017. Which really makes me wonder, where IS the love? Surely after 14 years, things would have changed. Hate and war have existed since the beginning of humanity. Crime is an enormous part of our society, in the past and in the present. Imagine a world that is crime free, the perfect utopia. A world where everyone accepts their neighbour for the person they truly are, without racism, without judgement, without oppression. “Where is the love?” recognizes chaos in a broken world, intoxicated with violence and hate. The song opens with the lyrics, “What's wrong with the world Mama, people livin like they ain’t got no Mama, I think the whole world’s addicted to Drama, only attracted to the things that will bring them trauma” For me the lyric about “No Mama“ The people of today’s society don’t know how to behave properly. We lack knowledge and understanding of the world. We don’t pay attention to anyone but ourselves. We don't know right from wrong. We are completely oblivious to what this world is turning into and all we are doing are things that hurt ourselves and others. This lyric about having “No Mama” saddens me as there are a lot of people out there in this world who do not have a mother to guide them on the right path. We need a mother figure in our life because having a mother teaches us basic life lessons that allow us to survive and be a good person. Such as to always say please and thank-you, respect people, be kind and love your neighbour. I can not relate to not having a mother figure in my life as I have had the same amazing mother my whole life. She has taught me from the moment I was born, to treat everyone equally, be kind, and respect and love everyone. To this
The song “Where’s the Love” by the Black Eyed Peas, which was written in 2003, interprets the message from the author that there is massive discrimination and hatred among people in the United States. In addition, the lyrics suggests that love is lost among human kindness. The Black Eyed Peas open their song using a rhetorical question,“What's wrong with the world, mama?” (LINE 1), by doing so the audience thinks about the tragedies taking place on a larger scale.
This sonnet is a remarkable pastiche of the song "Viva la Vida" by Coldplay, which has been modified by Erik Didriksen. The poet "rewrite[s] pop songs as sonnets" in "[a]n exciting and fun project that demonstrates the ongoing appeal of the English sonnet" titled as Pop Sonnets (David Hadbawnik). Seeing that the poem is written as a Shakespearean sonnet; it is consisted of 14 lines that are grouped into three quatrains: 4 lines, and one couplet: 2 lines, and is written in an iambic pentameter. The rhyme scheme of the poem is ababcdcdefefgg, which is called cross-rhyme. All the quatrains are end-stopped, which is "the opposite of enjambment, punctuation ending the sense with the lines," however, the quatrains have internal enjambments (Lennard
Throughout the emotional lyrics of Tupac Shakur’s song “Dear Mama”, he constantly reveals trial and tribulation. Shakur sympathetically expresses the obstacles he endures due to the undying support of his mother who displays sacrificial love. He explains the abnormal circumstances in which his family undergoes such as poverty, single parenting, and even feelings of hopelessness. Shakur characterizes his mother as a heroic figure, who outshines the negative aspects of his life by providing the essentials only a mother could both physically and morally instill in her child. The artist brilliantly captivates his audience by revealing personal information from his childhood in which many can relate to.
This song is a wakeup call for America to set a better example for the next generation. People are hurting other people. Some are paranoid of what will happen next. Life should not be scary, but there are people afraid to walk out and be among the chaos. Everybody is against one another, and they are not willing to compromise. “It’s time we stop” and look at what we are doing and what has become of us. There are wars for ignorant reasons, there are people hurting, there are innocent children watching, WAKE UP AMERICA! The riots and wars are not worth all of this pain and suffering.

Ludacris does a remarkable job of portraying his message about the struggles that some adolescents are faced with. “Runaway Love”, by Ludacris, featuring Mary J. Blige (2007), represents the theme of struggle through hip-hop and rap music. It is about little girls who are “stuck up in the world on their own.” They have to take care of themselves because the people they are around do not care about them. They range from nine to eleven years in age, and their goal in life, at such a young age, is to run away from home. Ludacris is trying to get the listener to realize the struggles that even children have to face because adults are not the only ones who have problems, like most people believe. He is very successful in
The song talks about how how no one is doing anything good, and how everyone is just hating on people who are not like them, while showing the importance of the good
The song “Where is the Love?” has many sociological concepts put into the lyrics. It is the first song that popped up in my head when seeing this assessment and if you have ever heard the song then you would know why I chose this specific song. The band in this song expresses the the world's issues and they express their view on the world and the actions others make. The main idea of the song is concentrated on the reality and how the world is changing.

For the lyric analysis essay, I chose to analyze the rap artist NF and my top six songs by him to help get a better understanding of what he has been through in his life and how he has gotten to where he is now. I like these particular songs more than his other ones probably due to my ability to relate to them on some level as well as the rhythm of the song, most of them are more focused on the lyrics rather than having loud background music or singing them fast paced. My favorite song of from the list above is “Wake Up” while my sisters’ is “All I Have” and she is the one who introduced me to this particular rapper. NF uses common themes and touches on social issues in lyrics. The reason for this is that he is a Christian hip hop artists making his name in mainstream hip hop, he has to be transparent and relatable to his listeners.
Experienced trombonist Bob Ferrel was not only a valuable member of the Duke Ellington Orchestra (conducted by Mercer Ellington) but also backed up amazing jazz singers such as Sarah Vaughan, Ella Fitzgerald, and Nancy Wilson.
The song implements on the hardships a mother will face for the growth of their son because love is what keeps them going. The love a mother will have for her son means that even though they don’t have a father figure around to show them how to grow up, they will always have their mothers to teach them the way of life through a woman’s perspective. In the song, “Dear Mama”, Tupac mentions, “For a woman it ain’t easy trying to raise a man, you always was committed” and he is able to foreshadow the hardships his mother had to face while Tupac was growing up without a father. At the age of seventeen Tupac, was always caught up in drama with his mom. Since Tupac was young he got involved into the hustle and was left in the streets where he basically had to risk he life every day. He never realized that being pushed into the streets would make him think about his mother or even worry about her. Tupac reflects upon the behavior he had during the time and how much stress he would add on his mother’s shoulders, but little did he know that his mother would be there for him regardless. Tupac Shakur’s mom was committed to his son and no matter the troubles he caused and faced she would be there for him to either help him out or at least hear him when he was not feeling good. She was a single mother on welfare, but she always tried
The song "The message" by Grandmaster Flash and The Furious Five depicts the struggle of young black adults growing up in society. The struggle to make it out of poverty can be compared to survival of the fittest in a jungle. Only the strong would survive and adapt to the changes to fit in. Trying their best to make a betterment with whatever little society offers. Being a young black African American in the early 1980's was not easy. It was easier to live the fast life and gain fast money by being part of the drug community. Drugs, guns, and money was glamorized and this is what the young adults looked at as a means of getting rich. In the songs, a young man talks about how he is trying hard to hold on to the little bit of sanity he has left in his soul. He talks about the struggle he endures while trying not to get pushed over the edge. He was born an innocent child who's blind to the ways of mind kind. Growing up he faced many challenges and had to fight
In 1984, an iconic song was created by two sensational artists Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie. A song they created inspired millions, originally created for people of Africa during the time of a horrific famine, was later recreated for the earthquake of Haiti. And for many years our world has been through so much trauma, trauma such as diseases, shootings, and devastating natural disasters. That song we know as “We Are The World” created such an inspiring notion that sparks to change our perspective of the world, how it is ours the children like Jackson said’ “ We are the world, we are the children” meaning we are all connected and the lyrics of this song represents that.
The song “Kote” which literally means ‘a policeman’ is basically about men who cheat on their wives and how the police must treat them. With lines like Koti mepa wo kyɛw bo me kunu no ma me ei sika a yɛbɛdi no, ɔde akɔ ma ne mpena , Tripple M is basically asking the policeman to beat the husband because he has gone to give the little house keeping money to his girlfriend. To intensify the hatred for such men, Triple M ask the policeman to slap the husband very hard because he has made their lives miserable. I find this song really interesting because considering the time it was released, cheating on wives was no “big deal”. As a result, there was gross marital infidelity on the parts of men. No wonder this song became a hit as women especially those in these situations found their voices in the song.
