Loneliness is a feeling that we have all felt here and there. A man in the poem “ The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock” by T.S Eliot feels trapped which caused him to have disorders. Nothing has never changed from living in the same city and not using his time wisely. He tried numerous ways to approach women but his low self esteem stopped him from moving forward. Although Prufrock seems like a miserable person, Prufrock suffers from obsessive compulsive disorder, depression, and paranoia that caused him to feel this way. The author begins the poem of a man suffering from Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. Even though he knew everything well, his behavior made him feel trapped. Depression is another disorder that caused him to feel like he has no one even though he is surrounded by others. From the website American Psychiatric Association, depression is “ a common and serious medical illness that negatively affects how you feel, the way you think, and how you act.” The man’s disorder isn't happiness but has negative feelings and negative hopes. Sadness has occurred in his life for so long he feels like he won’t ever get past it. The man’s lack of energy caused him to feel in a place of emptiness. “Shall I say, I have gone at dusk through narrow streets And watched the smoke that rises from the pipes Of lonely men in shirt-sleeves, leaning out of windows? …” Relating to the quote, it shows how he can not move on because of his behavior from lack of confidence. Another example of lack of confidence, “I should have been a pair of ragged claws/ Scuttling across the floors of silent seas.” The man is comparing himself to a crab due to feeling invisible to the world. The man explains how he prefers to be an animal than a human being because no one shows him love as a human being. Disorder of depression caused his feelings to be full of sadness of not having anyone. The man’s feelings are causing him to suffer due to unknown world of emptiness he imagines.
