Following the review of the Week 3 essay titled, Emerging Leadership Styles and the results from the Blake Mouton Managerial Grid as well as the Enneagram instrument I reflected on the last few weeks. By far, this has been most interesting course in terms of the level and amount of information provided. The course work was relevant, current and at the same time, challenging. Between the discussions, the reading, as well as, the written assignments I have gained a mass amount of knowledge. Overall, it was an incredible learning experience.
I believe I have evolved in my knowledge of leadership and who I am as a leader. For me as a leader, I have learned that there is no one style of leadership. Rather, the style of leadership changes depending on the situation and individual. Additionally, no two people are the same and the leadership approach strategy varies. As a result, the Situation

The Report results directed me to leadership areas where I am definitely strong. More importantly, the Analysis also showed areas where I need to develop. (Blanchard Companies, K. 2016).
Team effectiveness is an area where I find a tremendous amount of interest. I have always been drawn to coaching sports and providing insight to others when asked. The Week Six Analysis of Team Leadership Models provided with tools to aid leadership decisions. The Hill Model offers a great approach and will serve as a useful tool when leading teams as I re-enter the job market. This model stood out over others as it provides mental road map to help in diagnosing teams and provides action steps to correct problems.
In closing, I could continue to provide highlights and takeaways from each week. When reflecting back to Week 3 and the Emerging Leadership Styles it is hard to believe that I have gained more of an understanding of leadership in just five weeks. And for that I thank
The Hill Model for Team Leadership theory is broken down into subdivisions: leadership decisions, internal leadership actions (task and relational), external leadership actions (environmental), and team effectiveness (Northouse, 2016,). One key concept is development (team maintenance). Effective leader uses team maintenance to build team effectiveness, internally. For instance, creating team effectiveness includes ?foresting collaborating and building commitment and esprit de corps? (Northouse, 2016, p.378). Foresting collaboration is when a team has creative ideas, opinions, and cooperation.
This report provides invaluable information which allowed my co-workers to anonymously evaluate my performance as a leader. Their comments and observations regarding my leadership style allowed me to receive an unbiased truthful look at my performance and the way I’m perceived by others. The results from this survey gave me a stronger understanding of my strengths and weakness, which sometimes differed from my personal self evaluation. I strongly encourage this feedback report to be used by others at least once in their career. I will consider the feedback my colleagues provided me as I grow as a leader, as well as reduce my own self
leadership style assessment, why or why not I agree with the results and which type of leadership
Some of the greatest decisions ever made are made by leaders of nations. And to continue celebrating President’s Day, here are some of what many consider to be the best career advice from former presidents of the United States.
Consequently, I continued to function well enough at work and complete numerous large scale projects, but I was not focused on developing my leadership skills and abilities. As I am currently experiencing a fair amount of leadership drift, I am grateful for the opportunity to review and reflect upon my previous leadership development work and analyses, and to create a new development plan for the next three to five years. This will allow me to continue to grow and be effective in my current role, while developing my future roadmap.
I agree with you as a leader it is important to recognize where we are and where we want to go. The knowledge that I have acquired from this course has helped to guide me in the right direction. I feel confident leading others and hope to inspire them. However, I understand that I need to be able to reflect on my current leadership style and make the necessary changes. One change that I plan to implement as I stated on my journal is servant leadership which encourages “leaders be attentive to the concerns of their followers and nurture them” (Northouse, 2013, p. 219). Also, I plan to implement situational leadership. I understand that I should base my conduct on the demands of a particular situation. I learned that if I aspire
Before this lecture and assignment I never gave it thought about different leadership styles and what type I have or will deal with in the past, present, and future. This paper also gave me chance to break down how I’m a different leader depending on what situation I’m put in. As of right now it would be difficult trying to put my leadership style because I’m always in different positon that allow be that to specific leader. Right now I’m in a great position that allow me to lead other in the direction that benefit them and the
following is my personal insight on leadership and how I feel we can successfully guide
This week's assignment helped me to understand more about the meaning of leadership and what it takes to become a true leader. It might sounds discouraging; however, I have known I am not the material to
During this past week, I completed my leadership traits assessment and tallied the results from my friends and coworkers. This process was interesting because it has been several years since I have completed an activity like this one. My results were as follows, I received my highest ratings in being persistent, determined, trustworthy, dependable, friendly, diligent, and conscientious. On the other hand, my lowest scores are in self-confident, self-assured, and perceptive. These results were not surprising to me because they are developmental opportunities that I have been working to overcome. It was good to see that what my results are consistent with what I already knew.
Over the course of this semester, I have learned about the theoretical foundation of leadership and management. From various leadership styles to numerous learning tools have all aided in shaping me to become an effective leader not only in the health care profession, but everyday life as well. Through utilizing these tools, I have managed to put them into actions through working individually and in teams which has helped me to learn more about myself and the type of leader I am. Throughout this action plan I will reflect on my definition of leadership, what I’ve learned about myself in the capacity to demonstrate leadership, my leadership strengths and weaknesses and three action steps that will help me to develop my leadership in the future.
Leaders face many demands for their attention but are still expected to speak, listen, and treat others with respect. Good leadership requires the ability to set priorities and always be prepared. When I reflect back on the interviews, I consider myself blessed to have had this opportunity. I appreciated the learning experience, value the information I received and know I will utilize it in the
In saying this, if I had to choose a leadership style that I believe I most closely align with and follow would be transformational leadership. Researcher Bernard M. Bass developed what is referred to as Bass’s Transformational Leadership Theory and stated “Transformational leadership can be defined based on the impact that it has on followers. Transformational leaders are those who stimulate and inspire followers to both achieve extraordinary outcomes and in the process, develop their own leadership capacity. Transformational leaders help followers grow and develop into leaders by responding to individual followers' needs by empowering them and by aligning the objectives and goals of the individual followers, the leader, the group, and the larger organization.” (Bass, Riggio, 2008)
Before this class, I had a very primitive and vague definition of leadership. Not only did I define it as per my views and ideologies, but I also said that each individual has their own definition of leadership. My initial belief was that leadership does not have a clear cut definition, but there were well defined leadership traits which made an individual. I also initially believed that personal traits did not translate into leadership traits with no strong correlation. After going through the various modules this class offered, it is safe to say that I have significantly redefined leadership and underwent a strong personal assessment. This paper talks what I took back from each of the class activities, assignments and how my self-assessment compares to the perception of others.
I also believe that an effective leader plays a significant role in promoting and molding individuals’ readiness as it relates to motivation and commitment. As such, I developed my leadership assessment with these points in mind. The assessment focuses on 14 attributes that I believe are important not only for a leader to be successful within the parameters of the SLT, but for most any leadership model adopted by a successful leader in the modern business environment. The assessment was completed by Bobby, my manager of nearly six years, and by Katrina, my highest-ranking direct report of nearly four years. Each was asked to assign a candid rating to each attribute using a one-to-ten (worst-to-best) scale as well as to make notes or offer any suggestions so that I may incorporate it into my leadership style in an effort to improve the areas of weakness and become a better leader. In addition, I did a self-assessment using the same criteria. It should be noted that while Bobby offered both a ranking and narrative feedback, Katrina completed the assessment using the numerical ranking only. The results were consistent in some areas and mixed in others, but revealed some valuable information that I can use not only within the context of this course, but also as my career is better defined over time.
