Our existence, as the most developed species on Earth, relies on intelligence and determination to understand how our body functions and what we can do to help with its constant battle for survival. Diseases that were once deemed rare are becoming extremely common. With no cures, many patients’ lives are endangered. Being born in a generation full of technological advancements, I believe that, with my passion for biology and inquisitiveness for the world of biomedical science, now is the time to engage in this global challenge to develop easier and better ways to live our lives. My A-Level choices have equipped me with the adequate skills and basic knowledge that I feel are necessary to study a degree in Biomedical Science. In Psychology, I found Biopsychology most fascinating because we learnt about how the Nervous System works alongside the Endocrine System. Equally, I enjoyed Psychopathology as we learnt about the causes and symptoms of diseases such as OCD, and the drug-based biological treatments for them that target hormones such as serotonin. Studying Mathematics has enabled me to achieve a greater understanding of how to apply statistical tests such as the Spearman’s Rank Correlation, in Biology. During the Summer of 2017, I attended a Forensic Science course …show more content…
By the time I attended Secondary School, I found myself nominating the same charity whenever the chance arose. This charity, Smile 4 Jacob, lies very close to my heart and is one of the reasons which shaped my desire to study Biomedical Science. Jacob is a close friend who lived a normal life up until the age of 9 when he lost his ability to speak, eat, walk and sit independently. He was diagnosed with Adrenoleukodystrophy (ALD), an incurable rare disease. From my independent research, I have learnt that ALD is an X-linked metabolic disorder that destroys the protective myelin sheath that surrounds the brain’s
Over the weekend I was working in Evolv on a client Biopsychosocial Assessment , and I accidentally used Biopsychosocial Assessment RTF. After realizing my error I corrected it and used the Biopsychosocial Assessment RTF V.2, however there are now two assessments in Evolv for the same client. Can you please assist me with deleting the incorrect assessment.
According to NCBI (2009), “the assessment interview is the beginning of the therapeutic relationship and helps set the tone for treatment”. As suggested by NCBI (2009), “the interviewer should explain the reason for and role of a psychosocial history”. This was a very important in the case of Virginia whom has never received counseling services before. The intern selected the Biopsychosocial Assessment which allowed for incorporating the tool’s questions into an easy conversation, while gathering pertinent info needed to assist the client in future sessions.
In efforts to treat a client similar to my brother diagnosed with an alcohol use disorder, goals, objectives and interventions would need to be implemented. According to his biopsychosocial case conceptualization, the key components that are triggering his behavioral, cognitive, emotional struggles are based on his relationship with himself and the world. His maladaptive cognitions are enmeshed with fear, loneliness, abandonment, stupidity, and worthlessness (low self-esteem). His maladaptive behavior consists of isolation (anti-social), insomnia, anger outbursts and abusing alcohol on a daily basis. My brother maladaptive behaviors are being reinforced by lack of social skills, assertive/resolution skills, problem-solving skills, relaxation
Case Conceptualization of Regina Noopur Shah The Chicago School of Professional Psychology Question 1: Biopsychosocial Analysis of Regina Biological Factors Fetal Development It can be presumed, due to their middle class status, that Regina’s mother was receiving proper pre natal care and had access to the proper nutrition for healthy development of the child. Regina was receiving proper nutrition as long as her mother was eating well although, if she was not eating well before her pregnancy that would lead to her having to change her eating habits to accommodate the baby. If Regina’s mother did not change the way she was eating for her baby to receive the proper nutrients, then this could have caused Regina’s “physical, socioemotional, and intellectual development to be compromised” (Broderick & Blewitt, p55).
A biopsychosocial perspective emphasises the interaction between biological processes, psychological and social influences (Engel, 1977 cited Morrison and Bennett, 2016). This essay focus’s on a patient who the author encountered on placement and how their condition affects them from a biopsychosocial perspective. It will look further into the term biopsychosocial, analysing the 3 areas separately and the impact they have. The author will also briefly reflect on this experience and how it will help improve their future practice. In order to protect the patients, the pseudonym ‘John’ will be used when referring to him.
Lawrence fiddled with a toy while listening to the radio. After the broadcast was over, he softly mumbled something, though he generally kept to himself. I listened closely since his autism typically prevented Lawrence from stringing even two words together. He had recited the entire radio program, virtually word for word, even mimicking the tone of the broadcaster's voice. My jaw dropped. At that moment I knew that I wanted to learn more about Lawrence’s autism condition so that I could help him grow, but I also hoped to dedicate myself to studying the brain both from a physiological and psychological standpoint.
Case studies are an important part of clinical psychology. One can learn about the biological, psychological, and social factors involved by studying patients with certain disorders or illnesses. The case study of Christina Ricci and Karen Carpenter are extraordinary and this analysis will give a brief overview of their case as well as discuss the biological, psychological, and social factors involved. This analysis will also explain the need for adaptation in the field of clinical psychology.
To adapt to Sung’s busy schedule, I conducted the interview over the span of two sessions: each 30 minutes. This approach allowed me to I was able to ask him questions regarding the socialisation influences during his development. In the first interview, an important male figure in Sung’s life was his grandfather when Sung was still living in the suburbs of Seoul. When Sung was young, he would go to his grandfather’s real estate office to leave work together. After work was Sung’s favorite time as a child because his grandfather would treat him with toys and snacks that he would not be allowed to regularly have at his home. He talked about how he was the favorite “grandson” because he was the first born boy in the family. Lazur & Major references how First born males are most valued that “received preferential treatment as well as more familial responsibilities” including
Biopsychosocial Framework The biopsychosocial framework is a general model or framework stating that the unavoidable interaction between biological, psychological, and social factors, all play a significant role in human functioning in the context of health. The biopsychosocial framework is used to organise the biological, psychological, and sociocultural forces on human development (David, et al., n.d) Middle Adulthood Middle age is the prime of life, many of the major life events of middle adulthood, such as parenting and work, span several decades of one’s life. During this time, there are significant developmental events, such as changes in reproductive capacity, developing expertise in well-exercised areas, and transitions in family
Dr. Rex Brown is the director of experiential learning and a professor of clinical pharmacy at UTHSC. His father was an electrical engineer and went to pharmacy college for 1 semester. Then, Dr. Brown found his father’s books and decided to apply to pharmacy school. He obtained his bachelor in pharmacy at Ferris State University in Michigan. After that, He served as a community pharmacist, part-time hospital pharmacist and full-time hospital pharmacist. After couple of years, He decided to apply for “ add-on Pharm.D.” program at UTHSC, which was a 2 years program of advanced therapeutics and rotations. He cherished working on TPN preparation and for that reason did a 2 years of residency in Nutrition at The MED, which is known currently as Regional One Health.
I would like to take this time to have the opportunity to formally give thanks for the kindhearted support of you have for Miami-Dade College, its bright future individuals that can make a better for all. I personally feel encouraged to have the hope to pursue my dreams in becoming a Clinical Psychologist, and with this generous donation towards my educations and many other like myself I could achieve my goal. As my passion strives to become a professional in the Social welfare administration and counseling field, I will be aiding individuals and groups that are most vulnerable ins society, and I feel the passion help these individuals to achieve great things in the world and for them to feel less vulnerable and feel more comfortable in
Biology and Chemistry have helped my further develop my knowledge in the scientific field as well as helping me develop my analytical skills and problem solving skills. Being part of a junior cadet scheme from the ages of 14 to 16 allows me to be more disciplined and motivated to be dedicated to all my academic courses causing me to meet all my deadlines. My subjects linked together and opened my eyes to biomedicine. Biology and Psychology both looked at the anatomy of the human brain as well the chemical reactions and neurotransmitters involved in the human thought process. From my AS Biology course I was able to learn more complex concepts such as blood clotting and how the level of platelets affect blood
The event that marked my transition from childhood to adulthood is when I decided I wanted to become a teacher/coach. I've changed the idea of what my career will be a few times and I thought my last choice of psychologist was it. Psychology always interested me and to pursue this work would be fulfilling due to the fact that I would be helping others. The more I involved myself with the debate program and the more I talked to our assistant coach the more I realized how much I enjoyed being part of the debate space and how much I enjoyed teaching others. After school was over and after practice had finished, I headed over to the assistant coach's room. We sat and had a discussion over a scholarship opportunity called 'Teach Forward Houston.' At first I wasn't too
The advances in technology in the biology field has been huge in the last ten years or so, which have aloud doctors and scientist to manipulate nature, analyze it, change it and make it behave as we wanted and needed. These advances have also allowed to create and to be able to fight diseases that go from none-deathly to deathly and extreme. For most of the diseases known in the world, doctors and scientist have found a cure or treatment, but there are quite a few still that we know little about, don’t know where they started, how they started, how to treat it, cure it, or stop it completely for that matter.
With our bodies constantly under attack from both external invaders and the malfunction of our own cells and tissues, the volume of research regarding curing and preventing illnesses has never been more prevalent. I find the prospect of studying pharmacology for the next few years a very exciting one. The human body is one of the most complex machines known to man and having the opportunity to explore it further and understand exactly how we attempt to fix it through the use of pharmaceuticals would be extremely fascinating. For four years now, I’ve been an active member of my local hospital’s
