Since my work experience in an educational environment I have developed a passion for working with children. From working as a teaching assistant in an additional needs school I have been able to work closely with various students, some of which having profound and multiple learning difficulties, I have been fortunate enough to see the work of nurses and medical professionals who care for these children. This has inspired me to pursue a future in the nursing sector.
Thanks to my work I have been able to see the small and big developments that each child is able to make. Each one aided by the supporting medical and care team around them. Every child is so unique and full of potential and I want to be part of a team which helps each child fulfil this potential and discover the world around them. I know this course will allow me to achieve this and understand that this course will allow me to develop my professional and educational skills while exploring different subjects, also giving me practical experience in medical settings to help me become a nurse in the future.

Growing up, I was always the first person to volunteer my babysitting services and help the younger members in my family. As I got older I continued to have a large interest in looking after others and got a part time job as a babysitter. Once old enough I started working in a special needs school as a midday supervisory assistant, this job involved being responsible for many different children from ages four to eighteen, some of which needing one to one care and medical treatment. I have seen first-hand the difference a strong medical team of nurses, physiotherapist and speech and language therapists that allow the children to progress and
In the near future, I will graduate with my Bachelors of Science in Nursing degree from East Carolina University. Guiding my ultimate nursing goals is my love for children. As a mother already, I have learned and immensely enjoyed my journey with my six-year-old child thus far. However, I would love to expand my knowledge on the unique needs of the pediatric patient population. The pediatric patient population is very diverse, due to the various stages of life within this populace. In the near future, I hope to expand my understanding and experience with pediatric patients through becoming a registered nurse on a pediatric nursing unit within a hospital. However within ten years, my goal is to become a school nurse. This being said, there is an extensive field of knowledge and training I will need to gain in order to achieve my ultimate nursing goal of serving all children in their medical and developmental needs.
In the nursing field, you have this amazing chance to be able to show these children, that there is someone there for them. There will always be a person there for them that they can trust when they are at their most vulnerable point in life. That is the reason why I chose nursing, to be able to be the patient’s advocate and let them know they will be able to trust me to do what is best for them. I am hard worker and I believe in always learning, because learning never really stops.
I am passionate of becoming a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner. I got inspired to work in this field when I interned at hospitals such as the Veterans and at Community Regional Center in the children's clinic. I have always worked with children and like being part of their lives. Ever since I volunteered at Storey Elementary After school Program with kids on their homework, it assured me that working with children is what makes me happy. I want to impacts others lives positively. I am serious about my career path and I take every advantage to learn more about it. This was one of the reasons why I had taken part of the UCSF Doctors Academy program, because I wanted to learn more about the health profession and be exposed to it. Being part of the
In the corner of the small hospital room stood a shy little girl. “You shouldn't be in here, honey”, my mother said as she nudged me out of the room where my grandfather lay dying. At the time, I couldn't understand the enormity of the situation. Ignorant to what was happening around me, my innocent mind fled with curiosity. The beeping of the machines and the soft quick steps of nurses captivated my attention. I was fascinated with this strange new world. This is the moment that sparked my desire to become someone great; a nurse.
I think working with children is a completely different kind of work than working with adults. A nurse can have as much medical training as possible, but unless they have had the chance to really understand children, it is much harder to be the child’s most important resource at the hospital. For this reason, I have spent the past few years working with children in every setting and age group, so that I can bring both empathy and child development to my training and
When I reflect back on my life I see that the desire to care for other people was always in me. My exploration of the world and caring profession began in my early twenties in France and Switzerland where I worked as an au pair. During these travels I came to the realisation that the key to building a successful rapport relies heavily on respecting the childs individuality. This core belief has been a integral part of my career form the children I helped with self awareness to realisation to my present career in which I facilitate clients with intellectual difficulty to self actualise. My love of travel brought me to New Jersey where I volunteered in a palliative care nursing home.
My desire to help others has always been the fuel that has driven me throughout my personal and educational journey. I always knew that I wanted to work in a hospital setting helping children and families, but I wasn’t sure of what path I would take to accomplish this goal. I had never heard of a Child Life Specialist, but once I found out what they did, I knew that I had finally found the career path for me. My next step was to find a program that would give me the education and skills to pursue my passion, which led me here to NSU’s master’s degree in Developmental Studies with a Child Life Specialist concentration. There is no doubt that NSU’s program is the best fit for me. This program will not only afford me the opportunity of realizing
Throughout my childhood and teens I have grown up watching shows such as causality and holby city which inspired me dramatically as it allowed me to gain more knowledge and understanding about a hospital environment. From then I knew I wanted to be a child nurse and I wanted it to be part of my everyday life. As soon as I started researching the role of a child nurse, I knew it was the perfect career for me as children’s nurse.
I cannot attribute my desire of becoming a nurse to following the footsteps of a family member, nor caring for a sick family member as I was growing up. I am a first generation high school student, furthermore, a college graduate. I became a mother at the very young age of sixteen. Being so young and growing up without the care of my parents, it was always said I, too, would end up in a rough situation and not be able to care for my child being so young myself. I continued out my days and nights being a high school teen mom. I graduated from high school in three years by attending night school while I was pregnant; allowing me to finish school sooner and obtain a better job that would allow me to take care of my son.
Especially since there is not that many people available to attend to work with children and are often busy working with other children in the emergency room. . Also since I was little I was always been influenced by the doctors and nurse who help out with children. This is like some miracles that are being performed every day. Which left me very inspired even though it will take me so many years to get too where I really wanted to do in the future. An experience that when my friend Mabel told me that I can do my future career and try to be yourself around
I am currently a senior nursing student at Samuel Merritt University. I will be graduating and receiving a bachelor’s of nursing science degree in December of this year. After graduation, I hope to pursue a career in pediatric nursing, ideally via the Versant new graduate program at Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital in Palo Alto, California. I find so much joy in caring for children and providing support to their families, and I look forward to being able to make a difference in the lives of my patients throughout my nursing
All my life I have wanted to make a difference in the world, to make my mark. I may not be able to do this on a worldly scale, but I can start by helping one person at a time. My plan for the future is not an easy one, but it is worth it. I intend on becoming a Registered Nurse to begin, then later going further and becoming a Practitioner Nurse. Hopefully with my plans, I can get there fairly quickly. I will be attending Western Oklahoma State College, starting off with my basics, which usually take about two years. Then go into the Nursing program that Western proffers, putting my Associates degree under my belt. I would like to start working as fast as I can in order to get all the debt I will have paid off so I can attend a Southwestern
Although I have experience working with children in a health-related environment I am still relatively new to the role of a nurse and would require more practice and learning regarding paediatric nursing. I hope that the knowledge and skills that I have now, aid in my growth and development as I transfer them from other areas of my life into my work experiences.
In my high school years, I mainly volunteered with children and discovered that I genuinely enjoyed working with them. They have this unique and pure way of thinking and such compassionate hearts that one might lose as they grow older and I found that admirable. Working with kids in my free time has led to me deciding what career I wanted in the medical field— and that was becoming a
I am eager to pursue a career in which is challenging but rewarding, becoming a paediatric nurse would allow me to fulfil this aspiration. Nursing is a career for those who are reliable, empathetic, patient and know how to develop a connection with a patient emotionally as well as their family through difficult times. I have these skills and I truly want to make a difference in a patient's life. In the NHS, the role of a nurse is changing every day, as nurses are getting opportunities to become more involved in the responsibility of patients well-being and health and to become more specialised in different areas such as chemotherapy, surgery, clinical and much more. In studying for a degree in paediatric nursing I am inspired to make most of these opportunities to further my career.
