amazing it is. Some people may think volunteering is just a resume builder, but I really believe it provides an opportunity to really get to know a desired profession and learn to love it even more.
This past summer, I had the opportunity to experience the emergency department at Houston Methodist Hospital first hand. There, I got to sit at the nurses station, help transport patients to and from their rooms and the CT scanner, and prepare new bed for the ongoing flow of patients. Even performing menial tasks, all of the patients and other hospital staff were so grateful for my time. It really taught me how important every team member is a hospital setting and how much nurses really cherish working with their fellow staff and patients.

Whether it was being a nanny for elementary school children throughout high school, working as a counselor for and lifeguard at an overnight camp, or volunteering at the University Preschool, I have loved learning and working with children. Thus, I hope to be a pediatric nurse someday. I want to be there to help children with their time in the hospital. I know that being in a hospital for whatever reason is very scary, so I want to be there to explain what is going on and make it easier for the child. Children are fascinating to me. I think they know so much more than we think they do and I would love to be their. For this reason I have also decided to change my major to Human Development and Family Science for the time being.
I think working with children is a completely different kind of work than working with adults. A nurse can have as much medical training as possible, but unless they have had the chance to really understand children, it is much harder to be the child’s most important resource at the hospital. For this reason, I have spent the past few years working with children in every setting and age group, so that I can bring both empathy and child development to my training and
My mom has worked in hospitals since before I was born. From being a nurse to becoming a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist, she spent a lot of time in hospitals, which meant her family did too. After spending many nights and even holidays at them, hospitals became like a second home to me; and the staff, a family. I learned to love everything about hospitals: the smell, cleanliness, layout, and even the chaos. I saw how controlled yet sincere everything was. I saw and learned things wandering around hospitals that many others will never understand.
In the near future, I will graduate with my Bachelors of Science in Nursing degree from East Carolina University. Guiding my ultimate nursing goals is my love for children. As a mother already, I have learned and immensely enjoyed my journey with my six-year-old child thus far. However, I would love to expand my knowledge on the unique needs of the pediatric patient population. The pediatric patient population is very diverse, due to the various stages of life within this populace. In the near future, I hope to expand my understanding and experience with pediatric patients through becoming a registered nurse on a pediatric nursing unit within a hospital. However within ten years, my goal is to become a school nurse. This being said, there is an extensive field of knowledge and training I will need to gain in order to achieve my ultimate nursing goal of serving all children in their medical and developmental needs.
I want to work in the pediatric field. I want to work with children. That has always been my dream since I was a child. I know a lot about taking care of kids already
Non nobis nati sumus (Not for ourselves alone are we born) Cautions the philosopher Cicero. Over the last several years I have engaged in projects whose sole purpose was to improve the lives of people. As the undergraduate chapter of my career comes to a close, I now look forward to writing a new chapter of service and dedication. I intend to build a foundation of knowledge that will harness my experiences and focus my passion as a member of the Peace Corps. I feel a true calling to serve in the Peace Corps because this program revolves around many of my life goals and aspirations: to travel and learn the native language of the region by integrating into the community, but most importantly, to serve others in a deep and meaningful way.
I have had a passion for becoming a healthcare provider for children for quite a while (for a long time). Children are one of the most important individuals of society because they are the future and will one day be in charge of the world. Their health at a young age is indicative to how their health will be as adults. Childhood has a great effect on how a person turns out to be so I hope to help children I hope to use prevention and education to preserve and restore the health of my patients. My career goals are to prevent children from having to spend time in hospitals or in pain and to help them live out their life and dreams to the fullest extent. Children play a very large role in their families, and when a child becomes sick, the whole family becomes distressed. Pediatricians not only heal children, but they help and prevent a family from suffering. I love medicine and children, and I hope to combine these two passions by becoming a pediatrician.
Over the years I have been fortunate enough to have been able to work with both the elderly and young children through my work experiences. I got involved with Age Uk, Bousfield play centre and was invited to a nursing and midwifery taster week. Whilst working at Bousefield Play centre I was able to see that every child is different and has their own way of expressing themselves. This opened my eyes to the fact that within nursing every patient in your care is different and this requires nurses to be able to adapt to each unique individual. To add to this, I was invited to attend a nursing and midwifery taster week, from this I
Working in an emergency department for over thirteen years, I have had the opportunity to work alongside some wonderful nurses. I have also been fortunate to train some of those nurses. Providing bedside training and working together with the educators to teach the basics of emergency medicine to newer nurses entering the department. In Ottawa, there was a novice nurse program that allowed new graduates or nurse specializing in other areas to enter an intense twelve week training program. During this time they were given classroom time and mentoring time on the unit. After the program was completed they should feel comfortable enough to take on an assignment on their own. Our job was to ensure they felt ready and help with the transition
Growing up my dream was to become a nurse because I have always loved to take care of people. I also just knew when I finally started my nursing career I could save the world, While in nursing school, I quickly learned
I am a Muslim Palestinian-American. My parents are Palestinian refugees who came to the United States to secure a future for me. I have been granted access to education, a secure home, and a future because I was fortunate enough to be born in the United States. Knowing that I could have lived a life where my rights would have been stripped from me, I feel that it is my responsibility to devote my life towards helping people who are oppressed whether they are in the United States or abroad.
I am interested in doing volunteering work with Atwell Martin in North Swindon. I currently work for the British Army as a Communication Specialist and would like to gain new skills and experience within real estate.
I volunteered at the nursing department at Sharp Memorial Hospital in San Diego. This experience provided me with the opportunity to interact with different health professionals and get a meaningful exposure to medical practice. I interacted with patients of various ages, ethnicities, and backgrounds and listened to their problems and concerns. I learned that healthcare is contingent upon the collaborative efforts of many people from different specialties. The roles played by every individual were imperative to maintaining the functions of the hospital and providing best possible treatment to patients.
I believe I have chosen this major because I want to become a nurse or a research scientist. I want to go into these careers because I get the chance to help people. Which career I go into depends on, if I want to help society as a whole or help individuals.
Based on my service experience I want to stay not only involved in my community, but also my school. This is evident now by my commitment at my church doing community services weekly by serving meals, but also in the summer by continuing the meals and also participating in Vacation Bible School where I will be able to teach kids about the bible stories and our religion. The fact this is a fun, safe, place for kids to attend during the summer and also receiving, once again, home cooked meals is something that not only I, but our whole community should support.
When I was a child, I remember people always asking me, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” Every time I was asked that question I came up with a different answer. As I grew up, though, I began to realize that there was one profession that I always wanted to be: a teacher. I have always loved working with children, and helping them with their studies. Just the opportunity to teach them something that they did not know before is something that I have always enjoyed.
Working in healthcare may seem easy to those who do not truly understand everything that goes into it; but, hospital internship has allowed me to understand that it is not just about diagnosing a patient, administering medicine, and running tests. I remember an instance happening near the beginning of the semester when an emergency happened in the ASC. Something went terribly wrong with a patient and they needed to do something quick. Almost instantly, every nurse dropped what they could to come help. Without even thinking, I started doing what I could to help, which was nothing major and I did not even think I was helping. I was amazed at how well the department worked as a team to help the person. After everything calmed down, a nurse approached me to
