In this report I hope to successfully talk about the results I received from surveys I have taken online and on paper. I would also like to talk about the career I believe is best fitted for me and what classes and activities I must complete in order to be able to do the career I’m doing this report on. I hope that I as well as anyone that reads this learns more about the career I chose and that they become as interested in it as I am.

For my senior project I ventured into two different possible careers I held an interest in. I adventured in the art career field and am determining if would be a viable future. This project also helped me determine whether I wanted a future career with domesticated companion animals or wildlife, both of which I love but needed to determine a career focus upon.

A minimum education for a director is a high school diploma, but a bachelors, associates, doctoral, or master's degree is needed. A master’s degree takes almost 2 years, a bachelors is 5 to 7 years, doctoral is 4 to 7 years, and an associates degree is 2 years. The only exception for a non-education requirement is if you want to write music. For this you do not need any specific type of education, you just have to submit a recording to a studio or school.

One of the jobs from my career cluster is an art director. Art directors create advertisement, broadcasting, and print things for companies. On the job, Art directors create advertisements that the public would be interested in. Typically on the job you have to use E-mail, strict deadlines, group work, sitting, being accurate, and working indoors for the conditions. The typical task are designing layouts, and developing good artistic design.You have to have a good amount of education and training. Most people just get a bachelor's degree just to get the job. But some people do 5 years of training so they get a related work experience. The wages are pretty decent for them. They make a range of $18,00 to $25,000 a year and they make $34.56 and

It has been discovered that, “Nearly three decades ago, 61.1% of workers said they liked their jobs. That number has slid over time, reaching an all-time low in 2010 following the Great Recession, when only 42.6% of workers said they were satisfied in their jobs,” due to the findings of The Conference Board Job Satisfaction survey (Adams). As an achiever who strives to experience excitement and adventure in life, I find the lack of job satisfaction for most Americans to be disappointing. Having more than a job—having a career—in life is essential to maintaining happiness and allowing self-growth as an adult. It is necessary that every person does something they wish to accomplish during their life or feel the need to do to satisfy the means of their existence. After months of remaining undecided on my desired career that would necessarily fulfil my personal means, I have directed my studying toward the goal of being an art therapist. This uncommon occupation is described as, “An integrative mental health profession that combines knowledge and understanding of human development and psychological theories and techniques with visual arts and the creative process to provide a unique approach for helping clients improve psychological health, cognitive abilities, and sensory-motor functions” (“About us”).

A basic level degree such as a bachelor’s is recommended though it is not required. One could be self-employed and not attend school but it would be difficult to land jobs. Designers demonstrate creativity through a portfolio of their work. Someone who is considering this field should major in the Graphics designer field. One good college to attend would be Kentucky Wesleyan College. Costs around $34,000 for a bachelor’s degree. A bachelor’s degree is around 4 years of school. Some good classes to take in high school would have to be general art classes as well as advanced ones such as digital art. This field does not and probably will never require an internship of any sort. Only around 4 years of schooling and a portfolio is needed to begin working with companies.

An art director is a “person in an advertising agency responsible for ideation and the art and design decisions” (What Does an Art Director Do, 2). This person works alongside people such as copywriters and designers to make decisions on the over-all design, artwork choices and layouts (Sokanu). These teams can work in multiple areas of the media, such as television, film, live theatre, magazines, advertisers, or video games (Sokanu).

I’ve thought of medical careers, a career in psychiatry, forensics, and writing. After plenty of research, experience, and self-evaluation, I think I’ve found a fairly solid fit. A fast moving, creative environment surrounded by interesting people, whilst utilizing my love for literature, a career in publishing is calling my name. Specifically, a career as an editor. Both book editing and script editing sound appealing to me, but for now I’ll focus on book editing. As an editor, I would have a working environment that suits me and appropriate skills for the job, such as interpersonal skills, language skills, writing skills, creativity, and being detail oriented. (bls.gov) Also, values that are important to me would be a focus in this career, such as independence, achievement, and recognition. A career as an editor is a fulfilling career goal because of the ability to improve communication. (Cole 2)

Investigating are the three most interesting professions. Acting is interesting because it is fun; especially sense a lot of people know you. Private investigating is fun because you go under cover, you’re basically a spy. Art directing is interesting because you get to draw characters for T.V or something interesting like that, yah know.

I would like to study illustration as it has become clearer to me that this may be the right course for me as well as the right career path. From a young age up until this day I have always had a creative drive and an interest in art. Growing up I was involved in various sorts of art projects and workshops outside of school and during school breaks on recommendation of my teachers. One of the workshops I was involved with was with Peacock Visual Arts, which is an art centre located in Aberdeen that would provide workshops to kids during the summer, it was there my passion for art, primarily sketching grew but at the time I did not have the clear focus to know what it was I wanted to study at university.

To follow my dream career, I had to find what exactly is my dream career, what kind of training do I need and what I could be doing now while I'm still in high school to make my dreams more accomplishable. My job is important because as a cartoonist I want to show children life lessons while making the story entertaining and interesting Dedication is a big part of becoming a cartoonist and so is being creative, having a plan for being prepared. With many years of experience and education about art, drawing and painting I'm determined to achieve my dream

A goal that I have set for myself is to attend a college and graduate with a degree in graphic design. Something that makes me worry about this is being unable to make a living for the first few years after graduation. Despite of this, there are also many things that excite me for what is ahead of me. Studying abroad, interning, and learning a new language is something that I am looking forward to for the next few years. In order to accomplish what I expect for myself, I need to become more mature and responsible than I currently am.

Have you ever been to an art show, art museum or an art display? Do you know who sets all of that up? Who plans all of the dates? Who picks all the art? Who tells the people who attend? Who asks the artists if they want their art showed? Who breaks the news to those who don’t get to show their work? The answer is an art director! If I was graduating college today, I would choose an art director as my career! Plus, I have many reasons why!
