The sport of basketball is known as a fun pastime for any person young or old. Basketball has been my current obsession and it is an amazing way to get exercise and a great way to have fun with friends and family. I see basketball as a fun and easy way to have fun rather than sitting on the couch all day watching tv. The game of basketball as it is known today was created by Dr. James Naismith in December 1891 in Springfield, Massachusetts, to condition young athletes during cold months. It consisted of peach baskets and a soccer style ball. He published 13 rules for the new game. Positive experiences that basketball and an active lifestyle can play an important role in a person's life. There are many other benefits of playing basketball. It builds character and social skills like teamwork, cooperation and leadership. It also can develop higher self esteem and a body image, and an ability to handle winning and losing while being a good team member, but there are also consequences of being in basketball. I prefer an open stance, but you can also you the closed stance if that’s more comfortable for you. Once you develop a comfortable stance, line up your feet the exact same way on every shot. Whatever stance you use, consistency is critical. Make sure you flex or bend your knees on every shot. Next is your grip, place the air hole between the middle and index fingers, then line up your fingertip pads parallel to the long seams of the ball, so you can monitor the back spin. Leave space between the ball and the middle of your palm and you should be able to insert a pencil between the ball and your palm area. You also need to spread your fingers far enough apart to comfortably balance the ball in one hand, the ball should sit on your finger pads. Finally is your delivery, the ball should start motion directly upwards from the shot pocket, your elbow should be positioned comfortably under the ball and the ball stays in front of you and should not go behind your head. Then, uncoil your body with your legs,core, and arm power all coordinated. And your elbow and wrist should extend in a straight line to the basket.
