The sport of basketball is known as a fun pastime for any person young or old. Basketball has been my current obsession and it is an amazing way to get exercise and a great way to have fun with friends and family. I see basketball as a fun and easy way to have fun rather than sitting on the couch all day watching tv. The game of basketball as it is known today was created by Dr. James Naismith in December 1891 in Springfield, Massachusetts, to condition young athletes during cold months. It consisted of peach baskets and a soccer style ball. He published 13 rules for the new game. He divided his class of eighteen into two teams of nine players each and set about to teach them the basics of his new game. The objective of the game was to throw …show more content…

Then, your stance and balance is also key. Point your feet in the general direction of the basket, but not necessarily directly at it. I prefer an open stance, but you can also you the closed stance if that’s more comfortable for you. Once you develop a comfortable stance, line up your feet the exact same way on every shot. Whatever stance you use, consistency is critical. Make sure you flex or bend your knees on every shot. Next is your grip, place the air hole between the middle and index fingers, then line up your fingertip pads parallel to the long seams of the ball, so you can monitor the back spin. Leave space between the ball and the middle of your palm and you should be able to insert a pencil between the ball and your palm area. You also need to spread your fingers far enough apart to comfortably balance the ball in one hand, the ball should sit on your finger pads. Finally is your delivery, the ball should start motion directly upwards from the shot pocket, your elbow should be positioned comfortably under the ball and the ball stays in front of you and should not go behind your head. Then, uncoil your body with your legs, core, and arm power all coordinated. And your elbow and wrist should extend in a straight line to the basket. Your shooting hand should extend in a straight line to the rim
Attention Getter: “I wish I was a little bit taller, I wish I was a Baller, I wish I had a girl who looked good I would call her.” That timeless phrase coined by Ski-Lo in the early nineties, resonates with so many of us because all of those goals are things that people relate to being successful. And while I can’t help you with the first and the last respectively, becoming a “Basket-baller” is quite feasible, with a little hard work.
Those are all of the reasons why i like basketball and also why i think it is educational. It’s a fun sport. It is competitive. It is also very healthy for you and keeps you
I was a little guy so I just stood there on the court and shot the ball.
The layup shot is the most commonly used shot in basketball, you don’t need to be tall to perform this shot. The aim of the shot is that you need to dribble and drive to the basket and aim to hit the backboard to score a point. Driving from the side of the court should give you enough space to dribble to the basket and perform the jump. Put all your weight on the front of your leg, if you are right handed then you will jump off your left leg and if you are left handed then you will jump off your right leg. Bending your knees will help provide the spring needed. Jump off of your forward leg, and thrust your arms upwards towards the basket to prepare for the
The person head should be looking upwards and the person eyes should be on the ball carrier at all times when playing defense. The player’s feet needs to be shoulder-width apart, with the knees bent and shoulders back. He has to be at least 45 degree angle relative to the ground. Actually it’s really called a “breakdown” position. While trying to practice it the player should make sure to hop into a breakdown and start buzzing their feet, switching their weight under them quickly like some hot rocks or under
This takes a lot of practice for you to pull this off well. Nothing comes without practice, definitely not skill. I have tried and failed many times. The first time, the ball left my hand and bounced twice on the court, while I could only watch as my defender picked up the ball and dribbled down the court for a layup. I felt a sinking feeling, and decided that I wouldn’t try again until I practiced it more. So, a couple weeks later, against another team, I tried again. And failed. Again. So, I had to practice even more. If you don’t control the ball, then your defender will score, not you. It will slip from your hands, and most of the time, your defender or another defender will get the ball instead. So, next week (which was the last game of the regular season) I tried again, and it finally worked. I blew by the defender for the layup. It might not seem like much, but I got the confidence to pull that more often, and I become ok at
Shooting a basketball involves many steps. To shoot a basketball a hoop is needed. So, go to a gymnasium at school, rec center, or even your driveway. Grab a basketball and dribble a few times to get comfortable with the basketball before shooting the basketball. Go to a spot closer to the hoop, like the left or right block on the marked court. It is a square shape located on the floor of the gym. After finding the blocks or the place you choose to shoot from, the first thing you should do is line your foot up to the basket. If you are left-handed, your left foot should be lined up to the basket. If you are right-handed, your right foot should be lined up to the basket. Once you have lined your dominant foot up, the other foot that is not lined
Only parts of your body that allows you to make lay-ups would be your hand, arms and, your legs. However, the most important thing you must use when making a lay-up is your eyes.Because, with all that goes on around you during a basketball game in the court. Especially when the activity level increases ten-fold as you start to get closer to the basket. As you can see there are more players, more defenders and, more hands. So the more eye contact you make with your team mates the closer you get to the basket. Speaking of this, the demand for your concentration goes up accordingly as you continue to play. No matter what you would do, you must keep your eyes on the prize. In such cases that mean that you got to block out all that is going on around you. And, keep your eyes on the target until the ball comes through the net to score a winning goal.
Then i looked it up on youtube and watched a few videos on how to do a better left handed layup. That helped with the motion but i was still having trouble with the way i put my feet when i went up to do the layup. I also got help from my coach helped me because he was dominant in his left hand. He told me to not go for a fast pace layup, i need to take my time and do it the right way, slow and right is better that fast and wrong is what my coach always
The right foot needs to be on the edge of the court, on the ten foot line, on the left side. All of your weight needs to be on the right foot, you can even have your left foot off the ground if that helps. The arms need to be down, and relaxed in front of you. As soon as the ball is at its highest peak in the air, take your first step. The first step with the left foot is a long step in the direction of the ball, and your arms stay relaxed. The second step is a quick step with the right foot, your arms should swing back behind you in order to gain momentum. The last step is also a quick step with the left foot, your arms should come up quickly above your head, and you should jump into the air.
Shooting the basketball is the easiest thing to improve. The best way to enhance shooting is to keep practicing. Better shooting greatly increases the teams score and gives the opponents a hard time of catching up. Once a player feels their shot is good enough, they can attempt 3-point shots. There is a line pretty far away from the goal
One thing that is a positive outcome in sports is the overflowing happiness people get when they participate in competitive sports. One example is that “children who were involved in sports were more assertive, had greater confidence in their skills and physical appearance, and reported more positive feelings than those who didn’t participate. (Merkal, Donna, Youth sport: positive and negative impact on young athletes, 201, May 31).” If children hold an extreme love for the sport they play, most children use that sport as an escape. Playing sports blows off steam and helps people relax. “Physical activity stimulates various brain chemicals that may leave you feeling happier and more relaxed. (Mayo Foundation for Medical Education and Research ,Exercise: 7 benefits of regular physical activity, 1998).” Playing sports can help bring families or other kids together to build strong bonds. “It appears that US children are healthy and happy as they engage in this traditional pastime, and families report higher levels of satisfaction if their children participate. (Macdonald, Brian, Kids in Sports, Part 5: Can sports help shy kids to make friends?, 2009).” A pat on the back from a parental figure is enough to keep kids going and doing their best. Because sports make children happier, they are more prone to keep playing which all in all makes children happier and it teaches kids to do what makes them happy. With suicide being the second biggest fatality for adolescents doing what makes them happy can be a life or death situation.

Sports, a very popular past time today, have been around since ancient times. Greek Olympic Games featured events from chariot races, javelin throws, to wrestling. In addition, a game similar to soccer was played in China by the second century BC. In England, a violent rugby type game was even played to settle feuds between villages. With the development of the industrial revolution and the creation of the first public schools, sports decreased in violence and were played more recreationally and constructively. Basketball was invented to help the youth in New England spend their energy in the winter months. Since the early 1900’s sports have been a key experience in the United States (“History of Sports”). I have played
