Skills, Career Cluster Survey, and the Career Cluster Survey again but on paper. Taking these surveys were crucial for me to take because they helped tell me what careers I would enjoy. In the Animal Trainer Career I would train animals for many different reasons one example being obedience. This career was in one of my top clusters, Hospitality and Tourism. Most of the skills required were skills that I excel at including, Active Learning and Learning strategies.
This career comes with great responsibility since I would be caring for animals that are not mine, I have to ensure the animals don't get hurt and that I care for them well. If an animal does get wounded I would have to take them to the hospital for medical assistants. This is also a very physical career that requires me to be able to lift heavy objects and sometimes have to be able to endure extreme temperatures almost every day, 90F or 32F. The average entry wage is 17,000 and goes up with more experience.
High School:
If I were to pursue this career, I would need to set my sights on Marketing and Mathematics. Taking these courses will improve my understanding of how to take care of an Animal Trainer business and how to manage the work that comes with running a business. I would also take Culinary courses so that I can accurately say what the animals need to eat and put them on the right
I have always been interested in animals, when I was younger I would save baby animals or sick animals from the sides of the road and care for them until they were able to do so themselves. Ever since I can remember my future career was seen as achieving in being a veterinarian and have my own clinic. In this clinic I do not plan on working on ordinary animals, my goal is to become a big animal and exotics vet.
I am passionate about ensuring animal wellbeing, have a strong aptitude for scientific study (having chosen to study all three sciences; biology, physics and chemistry in high school) and am up to the challenge of dealing with all kinds of creatures, especially farm livestock and horses, companion animals and wildlife in rural and regional communities. The variety of animals I encountered at two local vets and at RDA Australia: a baby brushtail possum, wallaby, red-tailed black cockatoo, lorikeet, rabbit, dogs, cats and horses helped me determine where my interests lie. I am interested in everything from preventative care to psychological analysis and complex surgical procedures with emphasis placed on commitment to farm animal production to address the current shortage of rural veterinarians.
In Chapter 14, the writers of the text provide a map through the process of deciding on a career, preparing for it, building a portfolio, setting out on the job hunt, and how to ace an interview. Making the right career choice can mean the difference between a challenging, rewarding, happy work life and a life of waking up every morning dreading the workday. The key is to find a career that will make use of your abilities and interests where you can feel that you are making a contribution to the world. The first thing to do is to take inventory of interests, skills, experience, and education. There are online tools and surveys available to help a person make these discoveries.
There are two levels of education for entry into this occupation. A 4-year program for veterinary technologist, and a 2-year program for veterinary technician. Both need to pass a credentialing exam to be licensed, certified, or registered depending on the state. Also it is recommended that in highschool you take biology, math, and science classes. Both veterinary technologists and technician typically work in private clinics and hospitals. Sometimes in laboratories, humane societies and universities. There is a higher rate of illnesses than the national rate, this being because workers could could get bitten, scratched, or kicked. This happens because of dealing with aggressive or scared animals. Many clinics are open 24 hours so with that being said some will have to work holidays or weekends. The clinic that I am interning at they are not open 24 hours, they are open from 8-5 Monday through Friday.

As a young child and still to this day, I have always found comfort, peace, and an increased amount of patience in being around animals.
