Animal experimentation was a crucial in the development of open heart surgery, organ transplant, treating diabetes with insulin, and many other things.( Animal experimentation. Opposing viewpoints resource center. Web .2 mar. 2015) The California biomedical research associations “CBRA” say that most medical breakthroughs in the last century have resulted directly from animal experimentation .Animal experimentation also led to the discovery of insulin, to some major advance in breast cancer. Animal testing has help to save lives and cures sickness. By learning more about our body, we are more equipped to rid of sickness in the United States and 3rd word countries.

It also contributes to the knowledge, of the body which saves lives. Animal experimentation is vital to progress in new medicines, and strengthens our scientific knowledge. Most if not all research is benefited by animal experimentation. Animal experimentation should be considered ethical due to the fact that it saves human lives.
Animal examination saves lives. A few animals that are used in experimentation are a small price to pay for all the progress we’ve made in the medical field. I read somewhere that animal’s must suffer so that humans don’t have to. According to the L.C.Animal website, 97% of 10 Billion animals are tortured and killed each year by factory farms. According to Peta website only 100 million animals are killed each year, which includes rat’s frogs, and

There are just a few of the many examples that further proves my point .theirs open-heart surgery; “Thomas E. Starz conducted his early surgical transplantation on dogs in the 1960s before successfully attempting them on humans.” ("Animal Testing." Animal Sciences. Ed. Allan B. Cobb. New York: Macmillan, Reference USA, 2011. Science in Context. Web. 6 Mar. 2015.) Scientist also “manipulates the genes in mice… in order to examine how a particular gene sequence can… prevent disease.( Animal Experimentation. Opposing Viewpoints Resource Center. Web. 2 Mar. 2015.) According to the center for disease control and prevention “Polio, or poliomyelitis, is a crippling and potentially deadly infectious disease” ("What Is Polio?" cdc. N.p., n.d. Web. 13 Apr. 2015. <http://www.cdc.gov/polio/ ) Thanks to animal examination, we now have a vaccine, and it has saved millions of lives. saving lives should be our concern, not whether or not animals should have rights.
The progress of all these medical treatments and discovery’s are all do to animal examination. Not only the billon lives saved, but other animals will be saved to. For example, rabies shouts and so many other vaccine’s. The Greenhaven press states that “scientists have made advances in all of these fields that have greatly benefited humans.” They are referring to monkeys used in research. Without animal experimentation there would be so many setbacks; so many lost lives, family members,
Animal testing is crucial because without it, scientists might never find developments for biomedical research. Worldwide, there are millions of diseases that create devastation in countless families. However, there are vaccines, cures, and processes that scientists have came up with to help fix this problem. How fast and efficiently they come up with these treatments is the difference in many lives saved. Animal testing has been proven to speed up the process of collecting research
President and science spokeswoman of the Foundation for Biomedical Research (FBR), Frankie Trull, resolutely stated in an interview that, “An immediate end to animal research in the U.S. would be a death sentence for millions of people around the world.” Trull supported her admission by adding, “If you’ve ever taken antibiotics, had a vaccine, had chemotherapy, an MRI, a blood transfusion, dialysis, an organ transplant, bypass surgery, or joint replacement, you have been the beneficiary of research that started with lab animals.” (The Price). To disregard these major accomplishments would be foolishly ignorant, seeing as Trull established, millions of people would not be alive without these advancements. Hundreds of millions more lives have been touched in some way by these medical breakthroughs, whether directly or secondarily. Yet the miracles discovered in the past do not define what we do in the future. The fact that animals have been considerably prominent contributors to research does not mean that this is the only route that can be taken. As previously stated, there are several alternative methods of medical research in the process of being further developed that have already proven to be suitable replacements for animal testing and experimentation. These methods’ results have even shown to be more accurate and possibly more effective than those of animal testing. The continuation of animal testing and experimentation cannot be justified by past successes. Every problem can be solved with more than one
Throughout the years the use of animals in medical research has been a hot debate around the world. Although animal testing may be cruel and inhumane, thousands of humans are saved thanks to the research that animals supply researchers with. Animals testing have taken over our knowledge of medicine and treatments to a whole different level. Animal testing also does this in a cheap and effective way. Without animals testing out knowledge wouldn’t be up to date, in other words animals’ testing is good.
“The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated” (Mahatma Gandhi). Scientists have been using animals for biomedical research for centuries. They provide a source to get information scientists can not get without harming humans. A lot of debate is spread about whether it is good or bad. Animal experimentation is a controversial topic because it is helpful to humans, but it is also cruel and inhumane.
The practice of using animals in medical research has led to significant scientific leaps in the treatment of various diseases. It is necessary for the preventing, detecting, and curing of many diseases. This research has helped with disease such as AIDS, heart disease, artificial arteries, spinal cord injuries, leprosy, malaria, Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer 's disease, epilepsy, a variety of birth defects and countless others (Derbyshire). None of this would have happened without animal experimentation.
Based on this, the hypothesis is that animal testing is a gift of life and hope for everyone. The main purpose of animal testing is that it helps in the search for drugs and treatments to improve health and medicine. Keep in mind that many medical procedures have been made possible by animal experimentation, like HIV and cancer drugs, insulin, antibiotics, vaccines and many more. We can conclude that some experiments are considered essential for treatment of diseases such as diabetes, Alzheimer’s. Also the procedures to treat heart disease as is the case of open heart and lung surgery, coronary bypass improves blood flow to the heart, and the replacement of a defective heart valve. We should also mention the techniques and equipment for renal dialysis. Radiation therapy also was tested first in mice and rats. The cure for measles, smallpox, blood transfusions, and microsurgery to reattach severed limbs. In other promising research on lessons of the spinal cord and paralysis, so-called neurological, trying to find ways to repair nerve tissue and restore movement. These are some of the reasons why the scientific community and much of society support this practice. Which shows that without animal testing, many humans, and also animals would not be alive today, would not have been possible to eradicate many pests that plague mankind.
One benefit of animal testing is that, though controversial, animal testing does save human lives. Without animal research, medications that are meant to treat a person with an illness or disease can, in fact, harm them instead. The medications can be life-threatening and can make the person’s illness much worse. According to NAP.edu, “These diseases could not have been eliminated as significant causes of death and illness without animal research. Animal research has made people healthier.” (“How Have Animals”). Animal research has benefitted the medical world immensely, by creating treatments and medications safer for those who need it. Without animal research, the medical world would not be as advanced as it is today. Not only does animal research benefit humans, but it also benefits animals.
Animal experimentation is much needed in the field of medical research. This testing helps to find drugs and treatments like vaccines and antibiotics and may even save human lives. A number of animals used in animal testing are animals considered to be pests or unwanted. The animal testing gets “unwanted” animals off of the streets. Another positive thing that animal testing does is to make sure that substances such as medicine and cosmetics are safe for human consumption and use. Animal testing is good because it is a procedure to test on living systems that are similar to humans. For example, chimpanzees/monkeys
During animal testing, many animals are killed after experimenting on them and the others remain alive with injuries and in captivity. 95% of the animals tested are not protected by Animal Welfare Act including mice, fish and birds and they are all suffering abuse and mistreatment. Even with the protection provided by the Animal Welfare Act, some horrific cases of animal abuse in the laboratories weren’t prevented. Some people also find it immoral to test and experiment on animals for the human benefit saying that animals have feelings and do suffer like humans which makes it unfair to experiment on them what cannot be experimented on humans only because they do not have the ability to express their feelings. However, animal rights supporters only oppose scientists but not the farmers who kill animals daily for food but call the scientists cruel for killing animals for the advancement of medical field although, 99% of animals killed are by farmers while only 1% is by scientists (Ian, Should Animals Be Used for Scientific or Commercial Testing?).
According to Dr. Roger Morris "...The few experiments we carry out on primates have the potential to alleviate a vast amount of human suffering” (2009). Animal testing has provided a crucial role in nearly all major advancements in medicine particularly within the last century. As a matter of fact, in the last 103 years there have been 71 Nobel Prizes for Medicine awarded to scientists who utilized animals in conducting their research (Pro-Test, 2006). The continuation of animal testing is highly beneficial to the medical field because it has already led to numerous life-saving cures, animals act as a better research subject, and animals have directly benefitted from animal testing.
According to the studies made by the National Institutes of Health, have found that 30 institutes have been using animals for testing and research. Throughout the years scientists have been doing tests on animals to try and find cures for many diseases. They have found that animal testing has found many cure for human and animal diseases. Using animals for testing could save animal and humans lives. Animal testing can be beneficial for curing many diseases. Testing animals for research should stay legal because animals could potentially help find disease cures and they are appropriate testees for research and testing.
Animal Experimentation has been used for thousands of years from early Greeks to modern day physicians. Animal Experimentation is not only beneficial in gaining knowledge on diseases, but can also help to discover cures.
Animal testing is also extremely beneficial. Countless vaccines, antibiotics, and surgical procedures have developed due to research performed on animals. One of the most important breakthroughs in the medical field was the development of penicillin. Oxford scientists
Animals are used by scientists to develop research for new medications and experiments daily. The Humane Society is working to decrease the use of animals in laboratories by promoting the advancement of affective alternative approaches. Animal testing provides a useful model for treatments of diseases and possible cures. According to the US-based foundation of Biomedical Research, animal testing has made a major advance within the last century- for veterinary health and humans. The practice of using animals for testing has been debated for many decades. Is it morally right or wrong to use animals during experiments? Does federal law ensure that animals used in research are treated humanely? When considering the benefits of animal testing,
Some groups that are on the supporting side of animal testing are Understanding Animal Research and Speaking of Research. In Understanding Animal Research, there are people like Wendy Jerrett, the Chief Executive, who has been working in health communications for almost 30 years. One of their main arguments is that “ while non-animal methods play an important part of biomedical research, they cannot replace all use of animals.” This statement does make sense, however, through research I have not found anything that cannot be altered to replace animal testing. Despite this, Speaking of Research brings up a good argument that can support the former one. People in Speaking of Research include Christine Archer, who is a registered veterinary technician. One of their arguments is that “ The success of many animal rights groups’ campaigns depend heavily upon the poor public understanding of animal research, uncountered misrepresentations of scientists and their work, and exploitation of the misconceptions and negative perceptions that many people have of the use of animals in the biomedical and behavioral sciences.” So, by their way of thinking, all the negative opinions about animal experimentation are only because of misunderstandings and the uneducated public.
