I liked Neil Pasricha’s speech because he presented his family in a nice and funny way. Also, I liked how he presented his life in the speech. He started by explaining to the audience how his life was going smoothly in the beginning, but then started to spiral downwards. Especially how his wife broke his heart. After all the problems and difficulties he has encountered in his life, I was impressed by the way he choose to live the rest of his life positively. Believing that the biggest pleasures in life stem from the smallest acts, Neil Pasricha became the creator of the best blog in the world, but in the beginning his mother was his only reader. In his speech, he shows the audience how his “Three A’s of awesome”, Attitude, Awareness, and Authenticity
When Tim Collin’s begins his rhetorical analysis, he immediately describes the tragic circumstance of Fayti- Williams’s speech. Collins makes the reader feel like they’re standing in the crowd during her speech. He explains that she speaks to a group and wants to know what happened to her son. Collins points out the appeal of the bus that was involved in the bombing. Tim describes in Fayti-Williams words, “Have fed such an acute hunger for explanations, have slacked such a thirst for expression of sheer of horror.”
As a new president, Kirkman needed to impress the nation and show strength after the tragic attack, while encouraging Americans to move forward in rebuilding the democracy. President Kirkman’s speech was successful in sending a touching message to encourage voting. Kirkman appealed to pathos by featuring a quote from Mindy Hessler’s daughter. Revealing his plans to attend a polling place to vote made him relatable; a successful strategy for a president. President Kirkman’s speech contributed a sense of patriotism while inspiring people to vote and improve the fragile democracy (ABC
Aaron Hunter, a college student conducts a four and half minute presentation in what appears to be a freshman English class; in this he explains the reasons why he thinks the legal drinking age should not be lowered from twenty one. Hunter uses a variety of facts, statistics, and other displays to help the audience in understanding his argument, although fails to gives references or credibility to all the recourses that he used to find them. With this he also presents himself as nervous or unsteady throughout majority of the presentation, making it hard for the audience to be drawn in by his presentation. This making Hunter’s overall speech somewhat effective, due to both his ethos and paths appeals, being significantly weaker than his logos
It is our strong belief however, that this man whilst in uniform, went to a political
On July 18, 1969, Senator Edward Kennedy found himself fighting to escape from a car that had been driven off a bridge and into a pond. Along with him was Miss Mary Jo Kopechne, a campaign secretary for the deceased Senator Robert Kennedy. Even though the senator escaped, Miss Kopechne did not have the same, fortunate fate. At this moment, Kennedy fought to escape the clutches of drowning, however, seven days later, he faced another precarious situation in which he was fighting to escape the clutches of the Massachusetts people. There were accusations about his behavior with Miss Kopechne that night and about alcoholism. Edward Kennedy’s chances to retain his position in office seemed to be fading. However, in his televised address to his

Former Governor of Virginia, Jim Gilmore, is one the lesser known candidates on the Republican presidential ballot. Gilmore claims to be a “common sense conservative”(Court), and has seldom been seen by the public since announcing his candidacy for president. From September 9th to September 16th of 2015, Gilmore garnered some media attention for his appearance at an Iran Nuclear Deal rally and for not receiving an invitation to the highly televised CNN republican debate. All three types of media had different opinions and reactions to the Governor over the course of that week. Gilmore also used his own media to spread his message and directly contrast the negative publicity he received. Legacy media like the Wall Street Journal saw Gilmore
President Obama seems to be a contemporary master of Rhetoric, captivating multiple audiences at once while seamlessly following Cicero’s six parts of speech, but to what effect? In 2013 it was imperative that President Obama connected to multiple facets of people. We saw the beginning of a divided America during this time. Today, we only see this country more polarized. It is nearly impossible to get every family member to agree on a political topic, let alone a whole country. In that regard President Obama’s mission look insurmountable. Though, through the organic weaving of his audiences he attempts to accomplish to impossible. Throughout his speech broadcasted to the American public regarding 2013’s Syrian Civil War, President Obama
A Rhetorical Analysis of Steve Jobs Commencement Speech for Stanford University's Graduating Class of 2005: Jobs titled his speech "You've got to find what you love." Donald Trump’s speech addressed to the United Nations General Assembly on September 19, 2017 was not effective. Despite the speech having a universal message that is hard to disagree with, you can tell exactly which parts of the speech were written by a speech writer, and which parts of the speech were written by Trump himself. This wouldn’t be an issue if Donald Trump’s inflections weren’t full of fallacies and unnecessary statistics. For example, in the third paragraph, President Trump tries to establish his Ethos by listing improvements in the United States since he took office. But many of these cherry-picked improvements have absolutely nothing to do with him being elected. They also have nothing to do with the general theme of the speech. This speech did have examples of effective rhetorical strategies. However, the bad far outweighs the good in this speech and takes away from the good message it originally had.
The purpose of George Bush’s speech is to justify his future military actions and to unite the Americans by appealing to their emotions. Bush used a variety of emotive language and stylistic devices to express his concern over the incident for the audience.
As any American may know, when a candidate for the presidency has become newly elected, they must give a speech as they are inaugurated into office. On January 20, 2017, President Donald J. Trump took office with open arms as he became the forty-fifth president of the United States of America. The inaugural speech he recited that day echoed within the minds of millions of Americans and people worldwide.
Steve Jobs effectively uses pathos throughout the speech to appeal emotions of his audience, effectively connecting with audience. Jobs starts off his speech by using pathos saying “I'm honored to be with you today for your commencement from one of the finest universities in the world. Truth be told, I never graduated from college, and this is the closest I've ever gotten to a college graduation” (Jobs). From these first two
