This was when he invented Phase 10, which is now the second most played card and board game in the world, just second to Uno. At first he encountered some problems with K-mart; but in the end, he won and even received millions of compensation for intellectual property rights. Thus, he in his speech he assured his speech that one can really make a lot of money as an inventor. Aside from himself, he also told the story of Ryan Johnson, the creator of the “Super Soul” gun. When Johnson sold his invention to Hasbro, he got more what he wanted. This was because Hashbro also started selling similar guns with the similar mechanisms of the “Super Soul” toy by Johnson. The company did not know that there was a stipulation in the contract that any toy with the similar mechanism as the “Super Soul” toy would entail Johnson to receive parts of the earnings. On the other hand, Kenneth Johnson also ventured on third-party logistic system business. He had this idea when he saw another business that was overloaded with people. He immediately contacted the owner of the business, who then became his first business. Hence, Kenneth Johnson implied that a good entrepreneur knew when to get the chance for
In Lyndon B. Johnson’s speech The Great Society he is effective in showing that the society must work to build and achieve a great society. He is effective in showing this by giving examples of how to improve America by using rhetorical devices in his speech to create envisionments of the future in the society. By doing this he is effective in his speech to motivate people to participate and help develop this great society.
Immediately following the death of Martin Luther King Jr. in 1968, Robert Kennedy's job was to inform his African American audience of King's passing. After realizing that the crowd’s initial reaction would be the desire to revolt violently, Kennedy knew he needed to subdue their immediate emotional reactions and make them respond rationally and peacefully. The speech Kennedy gave was crucial in the maintenance of peace in tragic times. In order to prevent revolts, Kennedy established common ground with his audience, he created an empathetic tone, and references a Greek poet to instill peace in the minds of his audience.
Lonnie was inspired by his own father because his father was a skilled handyman who taught his own children to build their own toys. When Lonnie was still a small boy, he and his dad built a pressurized chinaberry shooter out of bamboo shoots. Lonnie built is own invention when he was just 13 he attached a lawnmower engine to a go-kart he built from junkyard scraps and raced it along the highway until the police pulled him over. When Lonnie was growing he dreamed of become a famous inventor. During his teenage years, he began to grow more curious about the way things worked and more ambitious in his experimentation. Lonnie use to tore up his sister’s baby doll to see
On the evening of the 16th of October, 1859, John Brown, an abolitionist fighting for rights for slaves, lead a raid of 21 armed men on the federal armory of Harpers Ferry, Virginia, which now is West Virginia. John Brown did this in attempt of freeing slaves. The raid lasted two days, and was ended by a military force lead by Robert E. Lee. Brown was later captured and sent to prison for the charges of treason. On November 2nd, 1859, Brown gave a statement to the court addressing his action. He denied all charges, and felt no guilt about his actions only because it was for the greater good. One month after he was sentenced to death, he was hanged on December 2nd 1859. Brown uses diction and repetition to prove his innocence and challenge
Lyndon B. Johnson orchestrated a strong, strategic speech on the day of March 15,1965. His speech was striving to persuade the nation to pass a bill which would give African- Americans additional rights to vote. Throughout his speech, Lyndon B. Johnson demonstrates all men are equal and should have equal rights through his utilization of repetition, pathos, and rhetorical questions.
A highly influencing person that visited to our school was Bobby Jones. He came to share his story with us on October 23. Bobby Jones grew up in Yankton, South Dakota, with his parents, his brother, and his sister. Bobby came to persuade our students about staying on track and not to go down the wrong paths in life. A powerful message was delivered that day. He had a very specific goal, which was to tell us his story and give us more of an insight to stay focused on life. Bobby Jones had great information for everyone and I will always remember this presentation. He had a unique way of getting the audience’s attention. Frequently, he would do clapping exercises with the audience, which was very fitting due to the audience members who attended. There were middle school students at this speech as well as high school students. In that aspect, I feel as if he did a great job adapting to his audience.
The speech I choose was an acceptance speech By Jesse Williams when he won the Humanitarian of the year award at the BET awards. Now this speech probably wouldn't be very appealing to a caucasian person because the main point of the speech is about how black people have been oppressed by white to long. It may sound like he’s targeting whites but he is just speaking up on all the injustices going on in our society to african americans. Also, a white person should not feel offended by the speech and feel as if Jesse Williams hates white people because he is half white. Jesse Williams see the world from multiple perspective being and black and white man. He uses his platform to as an actor to inform the country of our injustices against minorities.
On January 20,1961, President John Fitzgerald Kennedy was inaugurated into office. According to many, like Representative Charles Buckley of New York, this was the most outstanding inauguration in history. Within the three documents: Inaugural Address, January 20, 1961 by John F. Kennedy, Inside Kennedy’s Inauguration, 50 Years On by Eleanor Clift, and Inauguration of John F. Kennedy by the United States Army Signal Corps, they show that day in diverse ways, but all hold a significant meaning. The styles of the three documents are widely contrasting. The contrast comes from the deviation in purpose, tone, and the effect that each gives to President Kennedy’s legacy.
In the fall of 1963 Kennedy’s Administration was preparing campaigns for the election of 1964 in hopes of bringing the fragile Texas Democratic Party closer. The Kennedys headed to Dallas on the morning of November 22, 1963 to attend a scheduled luncheon. On that tragic day President Kennedy was assassinated in a senseless act of violence. Within the next few hours, Vice President Lyndon Johnson was sworn in as president. In the midst of a grieving country, he was given the duty of handling a transition in leadership and presenting an acceptance speech before Congress. LBJ gave his acceptance speech of the U.S. presidency in front of Congress just five short days after John F. Kennedy had been assassinated. Expectations were high but then
To start off John F. Kennedy was giving his speech during the inauguration, talking to the citizens of America. He was giving a very powerful speech that included metaphors, rhetoric devices, and SOAPS. I say that because he used that to capture the audience's attention. He starts off by talking about the war and those who fought for us, to be brave like them. That they were not looking for power like most of them were, that’s when he used a metaphor saying those who “sought power by riding the back of the tiger ended up inside”. Saying that they were foolish to even think they can gain that power they don’t deserve, how they talk about doing good, instead of actually doing it. Kennedy was making a type of statement, on how we the americans should show more compassion to those who don’t have anything.
On April 7, 1965 Lyndon B. Johnson had given a worldwide televised address from John Hopkins University in front of sixty million people. It was his very first major speech on the War that had occured in Vietnam. Johnson had ordered his staff to write an address because of the rising criticism and all the new problems coming along with the War. It was later billed as “Peace Without Conquest” and became one of the Johnson Administration’s most important foreign policy speeches. “Peace Without Conquest” was Johnson's explanation of the American involvement in the war as a means to bring harmony to the region while avoiding occupation.
A leader’s legacy is portrayed in a multitude of ways: from the goals and dreams he sought for, from stories and memories of the people he’s touched, and from snapshots of his accomplishments. John F. Kennedy’s inaugural address of 1961, his most famous speech, “Inside Kennedy’s Inauguration, 50 Years On”, an article by Eleanor Clift that gives a detailed description of the president’s inauguration, and an image, “Inauguration of John F. Kennedy”, by the United States Army Corp, all convey the impact of John F. Kennedy in their own unique fashion. The legacy of John Fitzgerald Kennedy is expressed through a variety of similar and contrasting styles appealing to the same rhetorical appeals but further differentiated by their syntax and
Bill Gates first took an interest in computer programming when he was 13 years old, while attending school. The school used funds from sales and donations and was able to purchase the students an ASR-33 Teletype terminal and computer time on a General Electric computer terminal. Bill, instantly intrigued, was able to get excused from his regular classes to work with the computer. Bill, then, gained his interest in computer programming. He was able to develop a program where the students could play the computer in a game of tic-tac-toe. This was the beginning of Bill Gates career (Bill Gates, 2011).
On March 21, 1994, Tom Hanks received the award for best actor at the 66th Academy Awards for his performance as Andrew Beckett in Jonathan Demme’s 1993 film Philadelphia. The acceptance speech that Hanks’s delivered was an emotionally charged classic that touched upon various aspects of his life, such as the importance of the role that he played in the film, the impact of two individuals from his past, and his overall faith in god. At this moment of time, Hanks used his acceptance speech at The Oscars as a social platform in an effort to increase awareness and compassion towards the victims of the AIDS/HIV epidemic in the United States. Overall, Tom Hanks’s Academy Award acceptance speech for his role in Philadelphia is a powerful and effective speech because of how he uses imagery and firsthand experience from his past to effectively create an emotional appeal to his audience about the then AIDS/HIV epidemic that was taking the country by storm.
"Ask not what your country can do for you but what you can do for your country," is a well-known quote among Americans that has so much meaning behind it. John F.
