The threat of substitute organic is minimal once Tesco continues to provide the customers with what they want. This was seen in 2007 when Tesco had major developments in their organic range of products. Bargaining Power of Customers: Tesco frequently consults their suppliers and discuss pricing arrangements. Tesco also ensures that all aspects of their supply chain benefit from their relations with Tesco. Bargaining Power of Suppliers: A producing industry requires raw materials - labour, components, and other supplies. This requirement leads to buyer-supplier relationships between the industry and the firms that provide it the raw materials used to create products. The suppliers of Tesco PLC are interested in the level of customers. As the suppliers will be able to sell more stock such as food to cover the number of customers at Tesco PLC. Therefore, there will be more awareness for the supplier so more work can come to the suppliers. Meaning that the supplier will earn more revenue from being more well-known due to supplying stock to a business as big as Tesco PLC. The suppliers would also be interested in maintaining relationships with Tesco PLC and to have the best interest deal. And finally, to be paid on time so then the suppliers will trust Tesco PLC on future orders.

There are a large volume of purchases in the industry, allowing the department stores to exert even more power over the suppliers.
The term 'suppliers' comprises all sources for inputs that are needed in order to provide goods or services. If there is a market with much choice supplier choice, bargaining power will be less.
Suppliers are interested in supplying Tesco with goods because of the business they get from them and the profit that they receive. They influence Tesco because if the suppliers go out of business then Tesco will have to find new suppliers that may not offer the same high standards as the previous supplier.
Tesco is the Public Limited Company I will explore. To understand the size of Tesco, it has stores in 12 countries across Asia and Europe. There is a sum of 3739 Tesco stores within the UK (as of 2017). They also have 460,000 Colleagues at the end of 2016. This shows the size of Tesco and gets us to understand the effect that Tesco has on the UK’s economy and needs and goods of UK’s communities.

In instances where backward vertical integration is possible i.e. buyers setting up their own chains of suppliers the bargaining power of the buyer increases in that their prices may become more competitive. Tesco is one of the world’s largest retailers with approximately 4,331 stores in 14 countries which include Asia, Europe and the United States. (Tesco, 2011).
