The Song of Fierce Love and Compact Bonds resembles the experiences and love that I share with my friends and family. Family has always been a huge part of my life and I know that I can lean on my family and they will always support me. This song normally beats with a steady, constant rhythm representing the fact that my family are my anchors. My parents and my brothers are always willing to talk to me and more importantly listen when I am having a problem and are always able to help me keep my composure even in the most stressful and upsetting situations. Sometimes the rhythm of The Song of Fierce Love and Compact Bonds gets faster and becomes more upbeat when my friends, family, and I are celebrating together and it also may slow down when …show more content…
Academics have always been a large part of my life and because of this there are times of anxiety and obsession throughout the school year that cause stress within my life. Although throughout my years of being a student-athlete I have worked hard to master the balance between athletics and academics, there are times that I do struggle with managing this. During these points in my collegiate career The Song of Academics plays at a fast pace along with loud, sharp, and overwhelming sounds. These sounds symbolize the severe accentuation and anxiety that I am feeling. Throughout the song I am haunted with the fear that I will forget to turn in an assignment or that I won’t have enough time to study or complete homework and because of these things my academic career will demolish. However, there are also times when The Song of Academics plays with a rejoicing and triumphant melody. The rhythm of the song begins to return to its steady pace allowing me to slow down as my mind and my body rehabilitates to its former state. During this jubilant song I can hear the anxieties popping out of my brain and a calming sound playing letting me know that all is well and that my hard work has paid
Hard-working students dedicated to their work succumb to stress and panic when the pressure of college and the need to do well intensifies. For Nayla Kidd, who grew up under a household which valued education, this was a nightmarish reality. While in college, Kidd’s mother obtained both a doctorate in toxicology at MIT as well as a masters in public health from Johns Hopkins (Svrluga). From the start, the pressure was on for Nayla, and her family reputation was on the line. On top of maintaining amazing grades, “Nayla Kidd ran track and did horseback riding in high school… she taught a popular belly dancing class at Columbia--[and] loves to DJ” (Svrluga). Her extensive resume reveals her true love for
Elementary schools and high schools across the U.S. have lately suffered from financial strain. Because of this, budget cuts have to be made and music programs often suffer before sports and academics. Although some people believe that music is not a key component in preparing for employment and higher education, yet several others express otherwise, who say music has been shown to stimulate other parts of a student’s mind that can help them excel. Statistics have shown that the correlation between music class and other academia is not only positive for students, but also can improve future scholastic abilities, and thus should not be cut from schools. Through the evaluation of various sources
With over 2600 students in grades 9-12, and a caseload of 400+, maintaining and developing socially, emotionally, and balanced students can be a challenge when student abilities do not always match the expectations of stakeholders. Though my school is diverse, socioeconomic status is a contributing factor when it comes to expectations, college admittance, and overall student success. Socioeconomic status increases stress because parents expect their child to get into a top university, and many are not open to a community college, even if that is what would be best for the student. For these reasons, I have identified stress and anxiety as the identified critical need. Of last year’s graduating class, 92% attended a college or university, with 63% of those attending a four-year institution. In addition, our school administered over 550 Advanced Placement (AP) exams to 10th–12th
Toward the end of my sophomore year, I achieved a balance. I’ve learned to balance my studying for AP classes with my leadership role as captain of the dance team. I’ve pursued my passions both in and out of the classroom, choreographing and teaching young dancers at my studio and taking honors science electives at my school, where my hard work was rewarded when I was named Genetics Student of the Year. I am inspired by the young dancers I assist in teaching, and my engagement in my local dance community has helped me to thrive in areas outside of the studio’s dance rooms. Because of dance, I have been taught to handle the toughest situations with discipline and
In a study done by Jennifer L. Lilley, Crystal D. Oberle, and Jon G. Thompson, Jr. at Texas State University, they tested the effects of grade consequences and music on test anxiety and performance. The objective of this experiment was to evaluate the effects of the participants grades if there were consequences and how music effects the participates anxiety and their test performances. There were previous works cited on how people improve their spatial cognitive task performances after listening to Mozart (Ho, Mason, & Spence, 2007). They also included studies where there were no benefits to people’s spatial cognitive task performances after listening to Mozart (Hui, 2006).
As I run through the dry dirt of savanna high school, dust clouds blow into the air. I pass Ryan and he smiles at me, of course he puts his music to the max, which he does every time we run. I begin to slow down because my side hurts, and my mouth begins to dry up like a desert with no water. After five minutes of running I reach the end, I walk up to my tuba, which is next to my stuff, I grab my water jug and drink its cold, nice water and when i'm done I put it back. I sit down on the cool, cracked concrete and wait for my friends, alone I wait, alone and quiet.I am ok at tuba, but whenever I think of the upper class men I fell like i'm not good enough, everyone in my section is a senior and only one juniors, so I feel like I have to
In the past two weeks there hasn’t been time to breath. It’s cross one item off the schedule and move to the next. If there were background sound effects to describe my life right now, it would be the kind of sounds movie producers use before a terrifying scene. However, the idea of quitting or dropping a course will not be considered. I have an optimistic attitude that enjoys being drowned with homework. It can be disheartening at times, but now, where someone such as Captain Sully tells me to keep pushing, it makes me feel good to reflect what I’m

The things I carry with me as I walk around Radford is a cluster of mixed emotions. I have anxiety about meeting new people and how to leave my comfort zone. I feel overwhelmed because I have never gone this long without seeing my family. I have doubtfulness in the ability for me to succeed. I stress about the grades I may receive on assignments that aren’t even due. I strive to make outstanding grades that I know I could achieve if I break my lazy habits.
Some people think that music can positively influence the listener while others disagree and argue that it has a negative impact. Mark Edmundson, the author of “Can Music Save Your Life?,” asserts through his own experience and the research of others that music solely “preserves” the listener’s life as a “balm—cortisone spread” (paragraph 25). His use of a well-known medical supplement makes it more relatable and believable to the reader. The authors of “Feeling the Beat” support Edmundson by stating that they observed an increased sense of confidence in oneself and one’s beliefs in the people they interviewed(Iwamoto, Creswell, & Caldwell 346). Their main support is the quote from one of their interviewee’s who said, “We can identify what they are talking about” (Iwamoto, Creswell, & Caldwell 343). This not only explains why students listen to certain types of music, but also why it can have such an impact on them. Derek Iwamoto, John Creswell, and Leon Caldwell declare their statement that positive influence of music by stating that the majority of the students they observed used their music as a way to

The time I’ve spent over the summer I listened to a lot of music and its was mostly hip-hop and R&B and rap, but I liked pop as well as a genre in music and while I was sulking over my old life in Wallingford school I developed a close attachment to music to deal with the emotional tension that was going on within myself. At the time school at Branford had started and I didn’t know it exactly at that time but this was the point where I was started to write music I was hooked on all the music from over the summer I guess my mind started translating beats and words and I can recall these beats and words because these became my first song ever written while I came to Branford. The periods I spent over the course of the first year at Branford had been socially and emotionally traumatic for me I cannot lie; the people there were nice some friendly and some not and I found myself alone most of the time. At these point in school I started to question myself and my social skills with others and my self-esteem continued to drop. The epiphany I had happened when I felt as though I wasn’t important anymore and when that happened I started to write songs to express these feeling inside of me;I hadn’t said anything about my days at school to anyone besides my mother, but even with her she couldn’t fully understand what I as in my situation was going
In recent years it’s become noticeable that students are using all different forms of music to help them while studying or doing homework. When listening to music one may notice how that person may tap their foot or drum their fingers, even though they appear to be focused on the task in front of them. The rhythm of the piece, whether it is fast or slow, causes the listener’s heartbeat to synch with it (How Music Affects Our Mood, 2014). The question however is which music to listen to. In some studies, test subjects show that the louder the music the more distracted the subjects became (Manthei, 2014). Doctor Emma Gray, a clinical psychologist in Britain, says, “If you choose the right music for the topic you are
example, a song with slow tempo and lyrics about remembering a lost loved one can emit feelings of deep sorrow or regret, which can be reflected and felt by the one singing, or even listening to, the music. On the other hand, a more joyous and fast-paced song can allow one to feel more energized and up-beat.
Psychological stress is pressure placed on a person to adapt, cope, or adjust to a situation (Rathus, 2016, p.284). The result of prolonged stress can affect a person’s mood, pleasure experience, and have harmful effects on physical health (Rathus, 2016, p.284). Society in the twenty first century places high demands on people. Technology makes it very difficult to separate work life, school life, and home life. Today, society places a high value on a busy lifestyle for individuals. For example, many places of business are open twenty-four hours a day. In addition to societal pressures, attending a university adds to the stressors a person may experience. Going to school not only includes classroom time but it also includes homework,
