1. In the paper on “An Essay On Writing” written by an Anonymous author he gives a reason for rejecting good writing. The author states that “the misapprehension that is necessary to write well in order to communicate. This is utter nonsense”. What he is saying is that there is no linking between writing and communicating. They are two opposite things. Just because you're good at communicating doesn’t mean you’re always great at writing, but you might be the total opposite. The author had two good points to back up his arguments one was he did a test with three different people. One of the three was controlled. What he did is he “gave each subject a pencil and paper and commanded him to write. After “three minutes and forty-seven seconds,” …show more content…
What the anonymous author I feel is concluding from this that we are all as smart as monkeys.
2. There are problems with his arguments, but there also are not any at the same time. It depends on the way you look at it. I feel his arguments are not very scientific and that they are only from his own experiences. The argument that has to do with mathematics does help his argument, but I feel the study he did on his own was not very thought out. I feel if he wanted the study to be supportive he would have had a question that might have had something to do with communication.
3. The author style of writing is very strong and you can tell he is very smart. Just by the choice of words he uses. You know he put a lot of thought and effort on what he is talking about. I do feel the writing is effective because it makes you think about what he is saying, but at the same time, it does get confusing. It’s a well-structured paper it just has some ups and downs to it, this might be because I don’t have a broad vocabulary and this causes me to feel the paper is confusing and hard for myself to understand. But to someone else, it may be very straightforward and to the

In this class, we have so far learned about rhetoric, rhetorical analysis, and writing strategies. We learned how to find ethos, pathos, and logos within an article to find out how the author wanted to appeal to their audience. We also learned different reading and writing strategies that the author utilizes when they use ethos, pathos, and logos.
riting center may seemingly have no control over most university writing constraints, many rhetorical strategies can be and have been implemented to accommodate to a wider genre of writing and writers. One such method that can prove to be useful without much work on the writing center’s behalf is to have tutors utilize several specialized strategies that tend to be specific for different types of scenarios within consultations.
These essays show me how much I lack when it comes to descriptive writing. I often use simple vague words to get my point across quicker rather than taking the time to write about the details about the situation or the people or whatever I may be writing about.
The writing style gave you a choice on what interesting subject you wanted to read, and also it gave you a preview of what the chapter was going to be about. The style of how it was written could also be a struggle for people. This book would not be recommended for people who wanted to stick to one specific subject; it would be a book for people who wanted an array of subjects. He does stick to one specific concept, which was bias. He has this subject scattered through the book, and they all mean different things. The experiments could be seen in positive light or negative, it depends on the type of reader you are. They can come out to be confusing but when you are able to play out the experiment it may be fun. The presentation of the book itself is an eye catcher, and maybe even the reading style will intrigue you to read it. This book is very intricate but you will not know if the information that is given will
Overall, it is a very educational article which blatantly gives the facts on a social crisis which I encourage many to
While reading “The Writer’s Way”, I began to realize several aspects associated with the context of the material and my own experiences in the academic world (Rawlins and Metzger). The first connection I discovered came when I read section “two Learning Equals Changing” (Rawlins and Metzger 3). I am no stranger to “experiencing and reflecting” in any part of my life (Rawlins and Metzger 3). When I take part in conversations, I analyze the content for long periods of time. Contemplating what happened, the conversation, what I could have done differently and many other questions occur in the process. In an academic setting, sometimes I process the information the same, however, I am not consistent with such a pattern. Academically I have found
We all long to write like someone else, maybe it is like authors such as Mark Twain , J.R.R Tolkien, Ernest Hemingway or Shakespeare- although I think the last one is much more like a dream than an actual aspiration-but I desire to write like Stephen King and Stephen Krashen , and even attain to imitate the manner in which they seem to analyze information, and translate such material in a form of a well-developed argument. As a consequence, it seems that the purpose of this summer assignment was accomplished , as according to Ms. Olaerts the purpose was to “give you an introduction to the kinds of reading you will see throughout the course and types of analysis that will be required of that reading.”
It’s ENC 1101, Not knowing what to expect I entered the room with absolute fear, after all it was my first year of college. Although I’ve never been quite fond of English in the past, I’ve always excelled in the subject. I had yet to work for my grade and no English course I had taken proved to be a challenge through my eyes. I am a huge procrastinator, if not one of the biggest when it comes to assignments. I most likely wrote papers the night before or the day of and still managed to average an “A” on all of them. This bad habit led me to believe that I was cheating myself. Throughout my scholastic years I always had the mentality of asking “what could this class possibly teach me that I didn’t already know?” I believed that my writing
The author does very well in this section. The language of the paper is formal and is third person. She uses vocabulary that is appropriate for the audience. There are a few punctuation errors, but they do not detract from the paper or lead to run-on/fragmented sentences. The sentences are varied and well written. Also, the author did a decent job in proofreading her paper. There is only one exception to this. The author wrote “things” when she meant “thinks” in the sentence:
Overall, I believe the article is very informative and does make some very great points concerning
Using reading and reflective writing is only part of the process of cognitive processing. In order to assist a client in dealing with their trauma it is important for them to understand the mental schema process in having a good understanding of their traumatic situation and understanding what is involved in the understanding of the event and realizing the meaning of the trauma. Incorporating writing, helps in the process of what it involves the trauma and how it can be place in writing feelings about it (Thomlinson, 2016).
In the short story, “My Parents’ Bedroom,’ written by Uwem Akpan, the most defining role of literacy that sticks out is symbolism. The images that are engraved into readers brains are ones that have deeper meanings than what we initially see on the surface. The story is told through the eyes of a little girl named, Monique, who is only nine years old. It is told in first person point of view so that the reader feels as if he/she is actually experiencing the situations first hand. The symbolism in the story, “My Parents; Bedroom,” illustrates the day to day struggle of living in Africa during the genocide. Symbolism is
We all need to be tamed. Our rough edges are honed by those who understand our temper – folks who are put in our life to round us into complete people. Eve and Enkidu are perfect examples of complementary personas. Both people serve to quench the personalities to which they provide counterpoint, Enkidu in showing Gilgamesh that he is not invincible and Eve in showing Adam that his companion in life will stick with him through thick and thin. It is by the actions and behaviors of these characters that we learn that no one is a complete person from the time of birth; we are all made whole through our interactions with those who share our own stories. Eve and Enkidu represent a similar face – both use flawed
In my opinion I felt like most of the paper was either common knowledge or something that I had already learned from another class therefore so much easier to read but much more difficult to write about in finding new information. The author did a great job at justifying each of the nine claims that he is trying to pursue, however the differentiation between each of the nine points was not as noticeable between a few of the points.
