These essays show me how much I lack when it comes to descriptive writing. I often use simple vague words to get my point across quicker rather than taking the time to write about the details about the situation or the people or whatever I may be writing about.
In the first essay, “The Miss Dennis School of Writing,” I liked that it wasn’t only just a story but it also was filled with writing advice. “Pay attention” was the advice that popped up several times throughout the story and it is nice that this time around the teacher wasn’t saying something like, “pay attention to me and the lesson.” She really meant, “pay attention to what is going on around you in the world.” This advice goes deep into description because if you pay attention
One assignment I’ve done well on this year is the letter we wrote to Anne Northrup. In the letter we had to use primarily: ethos, pathos, and logos to convince Mrs.Northrup to do something we would like her to do. On this particular assignment, my improvement on using these rhetorical devices was evident. I chose to use this assignment as backing evidence for my improvement on the use of ethos, pathos, and logos, because this it contains the best evidence for me to do so. All the rhetorical devices I used were highly effective such as these: “Aren’t college owners rich enough already?” and “Would free college for all U.S. citizens hurt owners even in the slightest way?”.
In addition, we can see the words in the sentences are formed and placed in an orderly fashioned giving the reader a much clear view of the essay. This is a key aspect of writing an astonishing essay because you want to give the reader a vivid understanding of the text; you want to write in a chronological sequence so the reader gets a clear view of what's going on. Moreover, Stinson uses a charming style to astonish the reader. Stinson style in writing this essay is so fascinating and attractive that it makes you want to read the work over and over again. Stinson uses this in order to keep the reader exhilarated, because you don't want your reader to get bored of reading your essay. After reading this essay I learned many new things; such as, using higher vocab words is beneficial also I learned that a good essay is a written in such a way that the reader won't ever get bored. When I was reading Writing is Easy by Steve Martin, I was thinking if writing was actually that easy. Then I finished the article and realized that writing will never be easy. Mr. Martin examples on how to make writing easier make no sense. His tip to getting over writers block gets the writer nowhere. He says “got to an already published novel and find a sentence that you absolutely adore. Copy it down into your manuscript” (Martin). What he is saying is plagiarism. If I was to use this method to overcome writer block I would be thrown out of college. I still believe that writer block is real because even the greatest authors struggle with writers block.
riting center may seemingly have no control over most university writing constraints, many rhetorical strategies can be and have been implemented to accommodate to a wider genre of writing and writers. One such method that can prove to be useful without much work on the writing center’s behalf is to have tutors utilize several specialized strategies that tend to be specific for different types of scenarios within consultations.
King puts a particular emphasis on reading as a necessity to becoming a better writer in his novel On Writing. He makes the point that reading will present a writer with "the tools to write", and that if a writer does not have the time to read "then they don't have the time to write." The "learning process going on" while reading is usually learning what it feels like to be on the receiving end of a story. I am conscience of "the craft" when the author makes artistic choices that either help tell a good story or hinder its development.
1. At the beginning of the essay Merrill seems to be a bit bashful about poor writing. But Merrill also uses “Poor” and “Principle” in his title “The Principle of Poor Writing.” This irony shows that it can be a negative or positive. Another example of Merrill using irony can be found on page 428 “Many scientists actually do write poorly, but they probably perform by ear without perceiving clearly how their results are achieved.” Merrill’s title, introduction or advice did not tip me off because many people in today’s society do struggle with writing.

In the article Teaching Writing as a Process Not Product by Donald M. Murray, Murray argues that writing is a process of discovery not an end product. Rather than being criticized for a “perfect product” by the teachers, student should be provided with an environment of creativity to explore and discover. Murray states that many teachers focus on the end product rather than teaching students the process of writing in order to receive a better product. The writing process has three stages of writing which include: prewriting, writing, and rewriting. In the prewriting stage, students should take about 85% of their time dedicated to the writing process. Prewriting includes strategies such as daydreaming, note taking, outlining, and lead-writing. Next is the writing stage where it should take about one percent of a student’s time. The writing stage is where students produce their first draft. Finally, it is the
Hassan is a joyful person to work with. Well, he is competent and consistently depicting his understanding in of subject knowledge in the assessments. Hasson's attitude toward our school rules, the other students, and myself is reflected in this reporting quarter. He is capable of being a successful student with effort. I am impressed with his effort to complete the task when when he missed the classes for his Golf Tournament. Moreover, his excellency in reciprocal teaching to other classmate is praiseworthy. In contrast, he needs to learn to set the limit on his social activity involved in the class to promote the learning environment in the class.
As a writer, I have improved greatly since the first exploratory narrative essay. There have been many challenges that I have faced in my writing, but I have dealt with them in the best way possible. Over the course of the three papers I have written, I have improved in the flow of the papers, as well as the content of the papers. This semester, I have managed to overcome most of the challenges in my writing and have grown as a writer because of it.
Writing varies from a text message to a novel. Writers often have a difficult task in creating a piece of work that truly identifies the meaning of good writing. Every good writer usually starts with the basics such as genre, audience, rhetorical situation, and reflection of the piece. Throughout this semester, we have gone through all of these key terms in great detail with each new assignment that has come our way. In doing this, not only as students but also as writers, we have come to create our own theory of writing. Every writer has a different theory of writing though most are very similar. Now, at this point in the semester after doing countless journals, in-class exercises, and final assignments, I think I have figured out my own
If I had a time travel machine, I would love to go back to our class’s first meeting. It was such a memorable day. I was so nervous that my first piece of writing seemed less than mediocre as I reflected on what I had written that day. While being happy that my name was randomly chosen to be added to the class, I was very scared of this class. The last time I wrote an essay was two years ago, and before this class I had forgotten how to write one. I believe good writing requires lots of practice, and I have not practiced my writing for a long time. In addition, my reading was not even up to par since I only read books required for my classes. Since the beginning of the semester, my writing has changed and evolved to accommodate and sustain longer essays. With longer essays, there is more room for in-depth analysis. Further analyzing a topic has led me to findings that I did not know existed. As I continue to write, I uncover addition and superior methods to approach my writing to the benefit of me and therefore, my audience. Throughout the semester, I have incorporated techniques to further my narrative throughout my writing.
