1.1 Ion Implantation

Ion implantation is a materials engineering operation where ions of a material are accelerated in an electric field and impacted into a solid. Ion implantation can also be referred to as a technique used to deposit precise quantities of n-type and p-type dopants or impurities into a semiconductor at a low temperature. Ion implantation alters the physical, chemical, electronic properties of a material by forcibly impacting different types of ions into the material.
In ion implantation, dopant atoms are volatilized, ionized, accelerated, separated by the mass-to-charge ratios and directed at a target. The atoms enter the crystal lattice of the material and collide with the existing atoms. These atoms lose energy and finally …show more content…

Laser Surface Treatment is a technique which is used to enhance the property and repair damaged parts of work pieces. The process involves hardening, cladding and alloying with high processing speed and slight thermal effect on the fundamental substrate due to the accurate control of the heat input and addition of material.

2.2 Principle of Laser Surface Treatment

Laser surface treatment works based on the principle of interaction between a beam of coherent light which has a high power density and the desired surface within a specified atmosphere. Light is generated in a resonator and directed at the surface of the sample. During the movement of the laser beam over the work piece, a track pattern is created at the surface. Based on the desired process and the geometry of the work piece, the system can be automated or designed to be controlled by robots.
