1. Detalied explanation of how smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors work.
How do smoke detectors work?
* The battery applies a voltage to the plates, charging one plate positive and the other plate negative. Alpha particles constantly released by the americium knock electrons off of the atoms in the air, ionizing the oxygen and nitrogen atoms in the chamber. The positively-charged oxygen and nitrogen atoms are attracted to the negative plate and the electrons are attracted to the

The powder also works to interrupt the chemical reaction of fire, so these extinguishers are extremely effective at putting out fire.
Advantages of fire extinguisher #3:
* Puts out fires by separating oxygen from the fire's fuel or by stopping the chemical reaction of a fire.
* Very effective with a low risk of re-ignition.
Disadvantages of fire extinguisher #3:
*Require cleanup of either a corrosive material or a sticky residue after use
*Those labeled as "BC" are intended for B & C fires. Those labeled "ABC" indicate the ability to extinguish A, B & C fires.
How effective is fire extinguisher #3? Please explain in 2-3 sentences:
Dry chemical extinguishers put out fire by coating the fuel with a thin layer of dust, separating the fuel from the oxygen in the air. The powder also works to interrupt the chemical reaction of fire, so these extinguishers are extremely effective at putting out fire. It is very effective with a low risk of re-ignition.

Fire blankets are used to extinguish small fires. They are used by covering the small fires with the blankets until it extinguishes.
This paper will look at NFPA 472 and what it does to protect the FireFighter. NFPA 472 is a very interesting standard as it is the standard of competence of responders to hazardous materials/weapons of mass destruction incidents. The purpose of this standard is to specify the minimum effectiveness for those who respond to hazardous materials and WMD incidents and necessary for a risk based response to the incidents. Hazmat situations can be a very tricky situation with all the recently introduced acids and gasoline of the current era. NFPA 472 keeps the FireFighter safe and effective on duty.
There are many reasons that a controlled fire is very necessary to our environment. It is not only beneficial to nature but also to people as well. For example, many farmers will have controlled fires to improve the land for their livestock. When the land is burned off, new growth will begin to take its place which in turn becomes better "food" for the animals. The new growth is richer and has more nutrients than the old, dried
Prescribed burns are utilized throughout the US to prevent devastating wildfires. The use of prescribed burns provides many benefits and few significant deficits to fire-dependent forest ecosystems, therefore, the implementation of controlled burns should continue.
The most common source of heat for the purpose of firefighting comes from chemical reactions. When something burns, it is the result of a chemical reaction where heat is being released. Pyrolysis is the "decomposition or transformation of a compound caused by heat."(Coleman, et al. 81)
| Describe how and when the different types of fire extinguishers, relevant to the given occupation, are used in accordance with legislation and official guidance.QCF641. 3.7 & 3.8
Discharge of static electricity can cause hazards in situations with flammable substances where a small electrical spark might ignite explosive mixtures.
Although the automatic sprinkler system is the most widely used type of fire protection system, it does have its limitations and uses inside certain building types. As previously stated, it is generally used in commercial buildings. This is because there are usually no special hazardous materials in these buildings, or any large quantity of materials that would react negatively with the application of water. It is installed in buildings such as hospitals, schools, and office buildings for life safety first, then building preservation. Since a proper functioning sprinkler system will reduce the fire size and prevent its spread, it will allow for more time of evacuation for these buildings. This is especially useful in hospitals and nursing home settings where there may be a large number of
There are two main types of fire protection: active and passive. The differences between the two are that active fire protection requires outside help in the form of mechanical or electrical power for the device to work. A passive system works with no outside help at all. Fire containment is a passive protection method. There are three types of passive devices: limiting the rate of fire growth, fire containment and then emergency egress. Fire containment is accomplished by limiting a fully involved fire to the room or area that it is located. This is done through continuous researching and testing. Fire containment is most successful when complete testing has been done on the many components of the building 's construction and materials.
Thousands upon thousands of acres are lost in forest fires every year. We always hear about the dramatic losses caused by forest fires and are often concerned by them. There are so many horrible effects from fires and most of them affect so many people. Studies have shown that out of all of the different methods to decrease fire damage, prescribed burns are the most affective. Many people would argue that they are not as affective because they cause so many health problems. Although that is a very important view and may seem valid, those health issues are not as extreme as one might think. People should look at the majority of the benefits form prescribed burns and they will see how affective and important they are.
Instead of trying to learn how to start a fire with a chip of ice, or a coke can and a chocolate bar, you can instead make sure you always have a Ferro rod, a Bic Lighter and a magnesium stick on your person at all
This device was able to extinguish small, controlled fires created with an alcohol accelerant, proving that the concept is viable
Much like all events and natural phenomena that pose a threat to civilization, humans have learned to cope with and prevent the loss of human life and destruction of property in devastating blazes that can break out seemingly at random. Fighting fires was not always the science it is today, but due to the use of new technologies and the fundamental understanding of what fire is, how it spreads, how it can kill, and how it is stopped, our protocol when dealing with fires has increased our success rate and continues to grow with applications of engineering, chemistry, and meteorology.
These fires are devastating and can have extreme consequences. First off, it produces smog in the air contaminating our air supply as well as further harming our ecosystem. The main areas in which forest fires or wildfires occur include Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, California, Idaho, Washington and Oregon. These areas undergo extremely bad forest fires within in the United States of America, In California out of control fires are regularly aggravated by the hot, dry Santa Ana winds, which can convey a spark for miles. Customary techniques used for battling a wild fire incorporate water dousing and showering fire retardants to quench the existing flames. Clearing vegetation to make fire breaks which keeps a fire from fuel and can help moderate or contain it. Firefighters additionally battle rapidly spreading fires by intentionally beginning flames in a procedure called
For starters, why would someone want to burn property Many people assume that the people that are setting these fire are bad kids or teenagers acting out or looking for attention, but that not the case. The real reason is so people can lie to insurance company and gain money. Sometimes business owners hire professional arsonists to burn down there business without leaving a trace of arson. Other than that investigator might be dealing with a pyromaniac. A pyromaniac is a person who absolutely loves fire. The smell of gas or smoke sends them into ecstasy. Lighting a candle and blowing it out and relighting it and blowing it out repeatedly, watching the smoke lightly twirl around in the air, is a good sign of a pyro. Many pyros can figure out different types of gas and/or what's being burnt just from the
