Dear Colorado School of Traditional Chinese Medicine, I am applying to your Master of Science Degree in Acupuncture Program. I desire an opportunity to attend the Colorado School of Traditional Chinese Medicine so that I can pursue a career in Chinese Medicine. I believe my passion for the healing arts, past educational success, life experiences, and career goals make me a perfect candidate for your school. I have a BA in philosophy from the University of California at Santa Barbara. I became passionately involved with the traditional questions raised by philosophers my first quarter at college. The questions surrounding such concepts as reality, knowledge, meaning, value, truth and morality all fascinated me. Eastern philosophy also captivated my attention. I excelled in graduate student classes. I was even given the opportunity to act as a teacher’s assistant for several courses my last year as an undergraduate. I graduated with high honors and a 3.6 GPA. After finishing school in 1982 I moved to San Francisco. I was in my early twenties and I was drawn to the charm of the city and …show more content…
Being a parent transformed me in unexpected ways. I found myself wanting to provide for my daughter and later my son the same security and benefits my parents had provided for me. I found a job at University Children’s Center. UCC provides care for children from the ages of 6 weeks to 6 years and I wanted to be close to my children. I worked with all the age groups but found my niche in the infant program. I enjoyed the close bonds I was able to form with both the babies and their families. I took great pride in creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. I took classes to become Infant Nursery Room Supervisor. Once again, I excelled in my studies and enjoyed the learning process. Bringing the information I learned into the classroom was
I recently left a position at a small Early Childhood Education center in the city of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The school consisted of children ranging in age of 6 weeks to 6 years. I worked there for eleven years in a variety of age groups. Most of my experience was in Preschool, with children who were three and four years old. The school was located in Point Park University located in the heart of downtown Pittsburgh, in one of the University’s dorm buildings and took up two floors. Each classroom was between three and four dorm rooms combined in size. The rooms were long and narrow with partial walls knocked down and converted into doorways between the rooms. Because of the classrooms
When I first started nursing school, I always wanted to be a pediatric nurse because I grew up taking care of my little cousins when their parents needed a babysitter. When I entered my pediatric rotation, I didn't expect my clinical experience to be centered in psychosocial interventions. I was placed in Northridge Medical Center Peds floor and I dealt with parents more than the patients. It just so happens that 6 out of my 9 weeks in Peds, the parents were either divorced or separated and no established relationship. From then on, I realized that Peds was not for me based off that experience alone. When I entered OB rotation, I fell in love with it immediately. I was placed in White Memorial Hospital and all the neonatal nurses provided a great experience for my clinical group. I was able to help and witness live births, cesarean births, and post-baby care. I enjoyed helping the nurses with their nursing tasks and interventions and I was comfortable communicating with the parents throughout their stay. After 9 weeks of clinical, I wanted to learn more and doing this literature gave me a different, yet valuable perspective about neonatal
With just attaining a bachelor’s degree in Speech and Hearing Sciences, I had dedicated 4 years of my undergrad career to working with young children. During my stay at the University at Buffalo, I took the time to get involved in internships which allowed me to work along a speech pathologist in a bilingual public school in Buffalo. I also went along to work in a child care center, as a teacher assistant. These experiences have increased my passion for working with
It was when I went to a career fair, and expressed my interest in becoming a non-traditional teacher, as well as working in a hospital setting, that I learn about the Child Life profession.
The Assistant Director graduated from college with a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Development and now oversees staffing of the classrooms and facilitates sets up appointments and meetings, manages on sight records and finances and ensures that all procedures and lesson plans are being implemented. My mother’s social and conventional interest led her to a field where she could express both and at the same time “have her children close to her and see them throughout the day.” It wasn’t something she intended on doing, however, over the years her skills developed and she found it beneficial to be in this field. She loves that she “isn’t confined to a desk and that she is able to meet and interact with all kinds of people.” She believes that jobs that allow flexibility, help you grow, and give you the ability to make a positive change in people’s lives are the best kinds. However, jobs that offer a generous income and qualified, well-rounded coworkers are also important to her. Based on this, her work values line up with altruism, economic return, associates, variety and intellectual stimulation. Although, she wishes “the field of early childhood education was valued as important as
After two years the house I owned and operated the daycare in began to have issues forcing me to sell the house and close my business. The discussion made me question whether the path I chose was the right one. Unable to decide what I wanted to do next I stumbled into applying for jobs in retail. I had no experience in retail, but was hired as a shift supervisor at a pharmacy because the manager was actually planning to hire a nanny in the future thought I was a good back up plan. As a shift supervisor in one of the largest pharmacies on the North shore that was used as a training store for new managers, I quickly learned different types of management skills and excelled at training employees at all different levels. The patience, calm demeanor and time management skills I used during my time running a daycare
The basic principle behind acupuncture is to stimulate specific points under the skin to adjust
My family and fellow co-workers have dubbed me the “baby whisperer.” I have a keen ability to soothe the fussiest, most demanding infants, which has proved to be a very useful skill in my current occupation as a childcare provider. Over the course of the last eight years, I have had the privilege to work with hundreds of children. While I hope that I have been able to make a positive impact on each of their lives, those same children and their parents will never realize the impact they have had on my life.
My desire to help others has always been the fuel that has driven me throughout my personal and educational journey. I always knew that I wanted to work in a hospital setting helping children and families, but I wasn’t sure of what path I would take to accomplish this goal. I had never heard of a Child Life Specialist, but once I found out what they did, I knew that I had finally found the career path for me. My next step was to find a program that would give me the education and skills to pursue my passion, which led me here to NSU’s master’s degree in Developmental Studies with a Child Life Specialist concentration. There is no doubt that NSU’s program is the best fit for me. This program will not only afford me the opportunity of realizing
Early childhood is a field I see myself staying in for a long time. I am currently working at a child care center, and enjoy learning about the different ways to run a center and the new information available to us. I have worked at two child care centers, and while the curriculum and rules are different, the goal of having the best quality of service for the parent is the same. Providing for parents and wanting the best for every student by having staff who wants to work and wants to do everything they can to supply the best for children is how to deliver quality care. After finishing school, I would like to open up my own child care center. By creating a safe, fun, and loving environment for children, they are able to learn, grow, and develop, in the best possible way.
When I signed up for Child Development this year, I brought a BabyCare baby home. This project consisted of caring and assisting a programmed baby. After, I realized how much frustration can be caused and how all my time aimed towards the baby. During the project, I imagined having a baby at my age; all the my years of hard work going down the drain. Also, my softball career, quality time with friends, and wanting a period of relaxation. Additionally, I learned the struggles of having a baby while in school and it helped me comprehend why my parents are so strict with me. My parents helped me with an even better understanding of my project by providing real world examples with an incident that could involve me. I grew to realize, I need to
The traditional Chinese treatment of acupuncture is an affective alternative medicine that has been around for thousands of years. Acupuncture is one of the most researched and documented alternative medicines around (Acupuncture). Although a vast majority of people believe Western medicine is the only cure to sickness, many people benefit from acupuncture everyday. Most people disregard the ancient art all together without giving it a chance because are scared of the needles it involves. Also, since no accurate scientific explanation of how and why it works has been found, people shy away from it. The healing powers of the body are taken to a whole different level with this alternative medicine.
If you want to go further in your education you can enroll in Two - Year College to get your Associate Degree in Child Development or Four- Year College to get your get your Bachelor Degree. The Day Care looks good when you have more teachers more Educated in the field. Directors would like their teacher to have their CPR and First Aid. The Day Care show new parents what kind of training the teachers have and what kind of goals they are looking for through the year. It hard for Child Care Teachers to go back to school to get their degree, they are thinking if this career is for them. Child Care is not a good career choose for some people. They would quit their jobs and go somewhere else for more money. Many states are high or low in Child Care
Acupuncture is the science of healing with needles through energy channels; it has a rich history and is now used around the world. The real question is, is acupuncture effective? How can we simply prove that sticking needles into a person’s body is actually taking away their pain or disease? How do we go from believing completely in Western Medicine to believing in Eastern Medicine? Although acupuncture is an Eastern form of healing, it has gained much credibility and respect in the West.
I grew up loving children of all ages and wanting to be a caregiver. I was the baby sitter and nanny to the neighborhood and my church ward. When I was in High School’s it was no surprise to anyone that I chose to work in the school’s child care center. I continued working with children at several child care centers until I went to school.
