Since the legalization of abortion in 1973, over 58 million babies have been terminated. This number will only continue to grow. Abortion is one of the most controversial topics out there. Two people come into play, pro-life and pro-choice supporters. If someone is pro-life, they don’t agree with abortions. However, if someone is pro-choice, they like the idea of a women being able to choose. These two people are like oil and water; they don’t mix well. Abortions should be illegal in the United States because innocent babies are being killed, babies are individuals, and babies should have rights to their own bodies.
Innocent babies are being killed. By definition, second degree murder is “a non-premeditated killing, resulting from an assault

When looking at the definition of second degree murder, it describes an abortion perfectly. Most of the time, abortion isn’t planned which fits “non-premeditated”. An abortion is an assault on the baby which almost always leads to death, causing the baby to be the victim. Furthermore, if a baby were to be born then stabbed, it would be an automatic first-degree murder. The only difference is a few layers of skin. Continuing on, abortion goes against religion. “Abortion is never a mere personal choice but a grave offense against God and His creation. The anti-abortion struggle has always been a religious battle and foremost in its ranks have been Catholics across the country,” (Student Action). One organization that performs abortions is Planned Parenthood. Planned Parenthood makes their money by tax dollars from US citizens. Plenty of US citizens disagree with abortion because of their …show more content…
The article, Abortion Unread said, “An individual's body parts all share the same genetic code. If the unborn child were actually a part of the mother's body, the unborn's cells would have the same genetic code as the cells of the mother. This is not the case. Every cell of the unborn's body is genetically distinct from every cell in the mother's body”. Many like to say the baby is the mother’s body, but in reality, the baby is separate. It’s just like an organ donation. If someone were to get a new organ, that organ would have a different genetic code. The organ would be inside their body, but it would be different from the rest of their body. Another feature a baby and mother can have different is their blood type. To prove the separation between the fetus and the mother, a person can compare blood type. Yes, there are mothers who share the same blood type as their child, however there are plenty of fetuses that have either their father’s blood type or a completely different type. It’s not rare; it happens all the time. Additionally, a baby does use its mother's body systems. However, it's just like a person sitting inside a car. If a person were to go inside a car, they aren’t magically part of the car. Sure babies use the mother’s parts for protection, but that goes along with the car and person. A person uses the seatbelt and airbag in a car for protection, but they still aren’t part of the
Abortion and murder are basically the same thing, as both of them involve the killing of an innocent. A fetus is the first stage of a human being, and has made no impact in the world, has inflicted no pain or hatred upon anyone, which is why they are innocent. In the abortion argument, there are two types of people. The pro choice, who think it is the mothers right to choose whether the baby lives or not, and believe that the fetus is not a person as the fetus does not have human like characteristics at this stage. On page 322 the author writes, pro choice has implicated that only beings who are biologically human are wrong to kill.(322)
In the article, “Should Abortion be Legal,” [U.S Government Publishing Office] Pro life supporters argue that, Abortion in the United States should be illegal because it is murder because the baby is still a person maybe they are not fully formed but they are human. “The federal Unborn Victims of Violence Act, which was enacted "to protect unborn children from assault and murder," states that under federal law, anybody intentionally killing or attempting to kill an unborn child should "be punished... for intentionally killing or attempting to kill a human being."[U.S Government Publishing Office,Unborn Victims of Violence ]. In his essay he writes that,”life begins at conception when the egg is fertilized” (ProCon second point on debate)
One of the main arguments against the pro-life movement is that the fetuses that are being removed are not humans and therefore do not have basic rights. When human sperm penetrates a human ovum, a zygote is formed. A zygote is undeniably human because it composed of human DNA that is unique from both the mother 's and the father 's individual DNA. From this, it can be concluded that abortion operations affect more than just the mother and her rights, it now includes the rights of the fetus. Also, the human zygote fulfills the scientific definition of an organism. The human embryo is a complex structure of independent elements designed to carry on the activities of life by separately functioning but mutually dependent organs. The human zygote also fulfills the four main categories of biological life: growth, reproduction, reaction to stimuli, and metabolism. Reaction to stimuli
Abortion has been one of the most controversial topics in America for many decades, especially when it became legal in 1973. Abortion is the deliberate termination of a human pregnancy. There are many opinions on this issue, like is it the woman’s choice to terminate the pregnancy? Should abortions only be allowed during the first trimester? Are Plan B pills a form of abortion? When deciding on whether or not a life continues, all of these, and many more, questions need to be asked. Abortion is extremely expensive and harmful to the body of the mother. With all of the controversy, and issues that arise for the woman, and the death of a life, abortion should be made illegal in the United States.
There are approximately 353,000 children born every day. A handful of these children are born and end up leaving prodigious legacies behind... but what about the rest? Imagine… it's 2:54 in the morning and for some this would be the greatest time in their life, being that their child will be born into the world. For Jess, a soon-to-be parent, knows that having a baby will wipe away her savings in the blink of an eye. With the father of the child nowhere to be found, what kind of life would this newborn baby and mother have? What would their quality of life be? Jess knows she could give up the baby, but the thought of knowing her child is living in a world without her takes as much away from her as keeping the child would. If the clock could
There are currently 29 states with homicide laws that recognize unborn children as victims throughout the entire period of pre-natal development, 8 states with homicide laws that recognize unborn children as victims, but only during part of the period of pre-natal development, New York is the only state with a conflicting statute, and the remaining 14 states do not have specifically appointed laws (State). Under New York statutory law, the killing of an “unborn child” after twenty-four weeks of pregnancy is homicide, but under a separate statutory provision, a “person” that is the victim of a homicide is statutorily defined as a “human being who has been born and is alive” (State). These two statutes are conflicting because the definition of “personhood” is presented in two different ways, giving an ambiguous solution to fetal homicide cases. The majority of the 8 states that provide partial protection to fetuses consider “personhood” to be given once a fetus has reached “unborn quick child” status. This describes a fetus whose heart is beating, who is experiencing electronically measurable brain waves, who is detectably moving in the womb, and who is so far developed and matured enough to be viable outside the womb with intensive medical support (Quick). While the specific details of feticide laws may vary from state to state, the main controversy stems from the pregnant mothers being charged with violent crimes committed against their own unborn babies and the legal difference between a third-party abortion vs. a third party
Imagine a world with no rules,no restrictions except there's the forbidden forest that no one can go to and that is the USand its government. Why should we call ourselves “a free” country if we're taking women's choices ?Abortion is a choice so why is the government taking it away?Roe v Wade made abortion partially legal, but still i think abortion should be fully legal.Ive seen in the news where young teenagers are dying of street abortion procedures due to it not being legal in there state or city.I think Abortion should be legal.
Abortions is an issue that many people talk strongly about and have a strong opinion. about. Abortions is the practice of ending a pregnancy by in which ending the life of a human fetus. This is a life changing moment in the parents life in which it should indeed be all up to them. In the 1970s, abortions were legalized in the United States after many of years of having this problem. The case was called Roe vs. Wade and Roe was a single and pregnant women that lived in a state where abortions were not allowed. She was fighting for other women and their lives. Her case was then In some states women have the choice and only one parent has to consent. In other states you have no choice unless documented as a rape, physically abused
One of the most controversial issues today is whether or not abortion is a right for women to have, or a nicer label for premature killing. We all know the two sides of this issue, pro-life/pro-choice, and their beliefs are indicated by their names. Pro-life believes that all life is sacred, and that abortion should not be legal, labeling abortion as murder. Pro-choice believes that life begins at birth, and that abortion gives women more control over their bodies. Currently, abortion is legal up to the third trimester during pregnancy; however, if abortion is determined as murder, there will be emotional outbursts from both sides. Pro-life supporters would be ecstatic, being happy that the “unjust act” of abortion is once again illegal. While pro-choice supporters would be enraged with anger, stating that victims of rape and incest are not being protected, as well as women loses their right to their body. For such a dramatic shift of current law proceedings, abortion would have to become labeled as murder. According to Merriam-Webster dictionary, murder is: “the crime of deliberately killing a person” (Murder). In order for abortion to be classified as murder, it needs to meet the following criterion: one human being is killing another, the killer is in their right mind before and during the killing, and is completely intentional and planned out; making it seem as if abortion really is murder after all.
The problem with today's world is that some humans believe that abortion is not murder at all.In the dictionary it states 2 important definitions. The first one is the definition of abortion, “the removal of an embryo or fetus from the uterus in order to end a pregnancy.” The second is the definition of murder,”...the killing of another human being...” Therefore, “By definition, abortion is the murder of a human being with a “medical procedure” being the method.” If these 3 definitions do not prove that abortion is killing, then what is? Abortion is taking the innocent life of a human being.
Abortion has ended the lives of an insanely large number of unborn children before they even began. It was first legalized in 1973 because it “was part of a woman’s right to privacy.” It is not a women’s “right” to kill or give the command to execute her unborn child. Abortion is a downright selfish choice and should frankly be illegal. It involves the murder of an unborn human being. Abortion is inhumane.
A long on-going subject that has been greatly debated in our society is abortion. Many people argue that because the baby in the mother’s womb is not alive, aborting him or her is not considered a murder. However, others say that as the baby’s heart and brain are the first things to develop, the baby is technically alive and killing it would be a murder. As soon as the baby has a heartbeat, it has life. Abortion has many characteristics of a murder, including the killing of one human being by another, it’s unethical, and it is done without the consent of the person.
As of today, there are still many questions and controversies surrounding the issue on abortion. Some pro-choice activists have argued that females should have the right to choose abortion or to give birth to a child. In contrast, some pro-life activists have argued that abortion should not be permitted because many believe abortion itself is the same idea as intentionally killing a human being. When it comes to the issue on abortion, there are differing reasons and views to consider. For example, from a Christianity standpoint, there are Christians who might support abortion, are against abortion, or will say abortion depends on the circumstances. From a Buddhism standpoint, there are Buddhists who will accept abortion because they
There are some people that disagree with Thomson’s view. They argue that there is no situation where a baby life should be taken. They said that every single life is important and irreplaceable and equal to each other. Thus it should never be right to have abortion since it would kill an innocent child. However they are wrong, even if every single life is important, there are times when the lives of the mother and fetus will hang on a balance and only one will live. An example of one those times when the mother’s and fetus’s lives will hang on a balance were given early. If the mother is at risk due to the pregnancy, there is a high chance the mother will die when she gives birth. Yet the people still says that abortion should not be allowed. In this situation, is only two choices; ether let the mother die or have an abortion. But who gets to live? Based on the people that disagree with Thomson, they said that the baby should survive while the mother dies. I disagree with them. Why should the mother be forced to sacrifice herself to let the baby live. In addition, the people who argued against abortion did say that that every life is important and equal and yet they are will to choose the baby’s life over the mother’s life. Abortion should be allowed and the choice on who get to life should be given to the mother to decide. In the end, it is her life and body. The mother is using her body to carry the baby and keeping it alive, so she does indeed have the right to decide on
There must be a point in which the law acknowledges a life in all stages of development. Allowing late term abortion is taking away the rights of life to healthy babies. An abortion can be carried out any where from thirteen to thirty-nine weeks. Some doctors say that late term abortions are only done when medically necessary. However, there is evidence to prove that this is not always the case. In order to save healthy babies lives, late term abortion needs to be illegal unless it is truly a medical emergency.
