Gillian Torchia Mr. Lowry English9h- 6 7 February 2016 Defense for the Defenseless In 2008 there were 1.21 million abortions performed in the United States. That is three thousand three hundred and twenty-two abortions performed each day (Guttmacher Institute). The topic of abortion has been a heavily talked about topic for the past few years. There are two sides of the issue, pro-life, which is against abortion and pro-choice, which is for abortion. Abortion should not be legal because it is a scientific procedure, it is currently supported by law, and deprives fetuses of a future like ours. One of the main arguments against the pro-life movement is that the fetuses that are being removed are not humans and therefore do not have basic rights. When human sperm penetrates a human ovum, a zygote is formed. A zygote is undeniably human because it composed of human DNA that is unique from both the mother 's and the father 's individual DNA. From this, it can be concluded that abortion operations affect more than just the mother and her rights, it now includes the rights of the fetus. Also, the human zygote fulfills the scientific definition of an organism. The human embryo is a complex structure of independent elements designed to carry on the activities of life by separately functioning but mutually dependent organs. The human zygote also fulfills the four main categories of biological life: growth, reproduction, reaction to stimuli, and metabolism. Reaction to stimuli
For the past forty-four years, abortion has been legal in the United States with over fifty million having been performed; that number does not include
Abortion has always been a touchy subject and the pro-choice and pro-life debate has been a very controversial debate for many years and there hasn’t really been any clear cut answers surrounding this issue. One of the toughest things to figure out has been whether the embryo or fetus deserve human rights. An embryo is the third stage of the prenatal development which is called the embryonic period, and this stage lasts from two weeks to eight weeks after conception. (webmd.com, 2009). A fetus occurs during the fourth stage which is called the prenatal period, and this stage lasts from the second month throughout the ninth month and it is during this period that organs begin developing and the gender can be identified and other physical features begin to develop such as eyes opening and closing, nails, and hair begin to form on the fetus.
Abortion is a conversational act that no one can seem to agree upon the long going argument dates to 1973 when “US Supreme Court’s 7-2 decision on Roe v. Wade declared the procedure a "fundamental right" (procon.org). Across America, the topic of abortion is still something that is regarded as taboo to speak about. Even today where it is more commonly brought up, the stigma surrounding the medical procedure has not gone away. There’s a rift between those who are pro-life and pro-choice, and each group has their own reasoning why or why not abortion should or should not be criminalized. The controversy about abortion is mainly rooted in the pro-life group believing that a fetus has the same rights as a born child and the mother. This stems into our government as well, where we have staunch republicans and democrats arguing back and forth over abortion. This also includes people who are incredibly religious and believe that it would go against Gods wishes, as humans are made in his image. Those who are pro-choice believe safe, legal abortions are a right and should be a readily available option to any woman who chooses to have one, no matter the circumstance. Abortion should be an option and that it should be a woman’s right whether to get one, and that she should be the only one to make that decision, not the government. There are many reasons why abortions should be an option, and some of those reasons are that they would help end surprise and unwanted pregnancy, end
Abortion is one the most controversial topics in the United States. The issue at hand is should abortion be legal or not. It is highly debated with in both media and politics. According to History Channel, “Supreme Court legalizes abortion”, in 1973 the U.S. Supreme Court Case Roe V. Wade ruled that women have the constitutional right to privacy, thus legalizing abortion. This law gave women the right to terminate a pregnancy during the first two trimesters. This sparked huge controversy between pro-life and pro-choice believers. Both pro-life and pro-choice have numerous arguments to justify their opinions. In a report done by WebMD, “Abortion-Reasons Women Choose Abortion,” nine out of ten abortions are performed within the first twelve weeks. Abortion should be legal because it is a women’s constitutional right, mental and physical health, and other.
Premise three tells us that all humans have the right to life. According to Appendix A: Universal Declaration of Human Rights,” Everyone has the right to life, liberty and the security of person. “(Article 3) Being a zygote/blastocyst/embryo/fetus doesn’t make it any less human than what it could be in the
Abortion is the complicated act of removing a fetus from the womb of its mother before the full pregnancy has been completed. In the 13th century, women would be hung if they followed through with the act of abortion after six weeks of being pregnant, as it was considered homicide (Rich). Abortion between the fifteenth and eighteenth week was perceived as a capital offense well into the nineteenth century (Rich). Afterwards, abortion was denied to any woman, in England or the United States, unless the mother’s life was at risk (Rich). In the late twentieth century, a court case called “Roe v. Wade” created great controversy among the nation and served as a basis
The topic of abortion has been a war in and of itself. Abortion is when a woman deliberately terminates a pregnancy. People who have voiced their opinion on abortion has identified as either “pro-life” or “pro-choice”. The people who are advocates of “pro-life” believe that abortion should be illegal. They strongly believe that life begins at conception; therefore, the act of abortion is akin to murder. In addition, they believe that an unborn child or a fetus should not be punished for the woman's mistake. On the other hand, people who advocate for “pro-choice” are fighting for abortion to stay legalized. They believe that the woman should be able to make the choice on whether or not she gets an abortion. The people who fight for “pro-choice”
Abortion is a debatable question that has been argued over a long period of time. The controversy of abortion has caused or may cause deaths and several violent conflicts between, should abortion be legal or illegal. Abortion is one of the most common medical procedures performed worldwide also known as elective termination of pregnancy (History,2016). Abortion is the destruction of the fetus or unborn child while the child is still in the mother’s womb. This procedure can be done almost anyone from the mother herself to back alley, most common, abortion clinics. More than 40% of all women will end a pregnancy by abortion and remains common in the US. But the questions is should abortion be legal or illegal?
“Every year in the world, there are an estimated 40-50 million abortions. This corresponds to approximately 125,000 abortions per day” (WorldOMeters ). Abortion is a choice for a woman “with child “ , usually during the first 28 weeks of pregnancy when the baby , also known as a fetus is terminated, or in other words killed. Abortion should be illegal because abortion is murder, and counteracts fundamental rights.
Abortion is a very controversial subject that has been continually argued over for the past few years and probably many years to come. The main controversy is should abortion be legalized? First before we get into the many sides of abortion we must first define abortion. Abortion is the destruction of the fetus or unborn child while the child is still in the mother’s womb. This can be done by almost anyone from the mother herself to back alley abortions and even to abortions specialized clinics set up for this purpose. There are two sides to this abortion topic the PRO-LIFE which is those who are against abortion altogether and the PRO- CHOICE or those who believe it is the woman’s right to choose if she wants to
There are several Bioethical issues in the United States, one of the biggest, in my opinion, is abortions. In the United States there were about four million babies born in 2007. Out of those four million babies born, half of them are unintended. About four out of ten unintended pregnancies were aborted. The abortion rates tend to be going down over the years though. Some people say that abortions are wrong, and some people say there is nothing wrong with them. It really just depends on how you are raised and what you believe in. I am a big believer in what the bible says, although, in some cases I believe that abortions are okay. I chose to write about this topic so I can show the problems and the advantages of abortions, and also show the different ways to abort babies.
A woman has a right to her own body is an idea more and more women are realizing, but that idea ignores the unborn child's right to his or her own body. Never, in modern times, has the state granted to one citizen the right to have another killed in order to solve their personal, social, or economic problems. The embryo is its own being that should have it's own rights to protect it. The zygote is a unique genetic being.
Abortion is among the most controversial topics that have been misleading many Americans for quite some time. Whilst not being a woman, everyone has a right to have an opinion on both topics and should give their opinions as they see necessary.
Almost half the pregnancies every year are unintentional, and about four in every ten pregnancies are ended by abortion. A lot of people can find pros to having abortions, while the same amount of people can find cons. Many researchers have investigated problems with having abortions. Due to all the laws that are currently being put in place everywhere, abortions are expected to decline, but some people still do not understand the dangers to them. Abortion should be considered illegal in the United States due to the understanding that technically it is murder; therefore, laws such as Roe vs Wade should be repealed indefinitely.
Do you think abortions is okay? It is approximately 1.1 million abortions a year in the U.S alone. To me i feel like abortions shouldn't be legal in the U.S.
