A Career As An Emergency Medical Responder

I chose to research a paramedic because I would like to help save lives. I believe that I will never have a dull moment running with the EMS. My family is full of nurses, saving lives every day. I chose to take my saving lives to a different level and setting. Something about standing in a hospital, going patient to patient isn’t my thing. I need more excitement and commotion.

For this project I decided to interview my friend who is an emergency response technician (EMT) in Oak Lawn, IL. Oak Lawn is a suburb near Chicago. He has been an EMT for a little bit over a year.

Are there any medical assistant organizations that medical assistants can join? Since the medical field is growing there are plenty of opportunities for medical assistants to join an organization. Medical assistant organizations vary thought the world; in the paper I will be introducing you to organizations within the U.S, Texas, and Houston area. Here in the Texas area we are known for having the Houston Medical center with that center comes organizations and jobs for Medical assistants.

Intro to Health Occupations opened my eyes to the many, many amazing healthcare career choices that there are. After completing a two week long career project, I was certain that my answer to the question was, “I want to be a physician’s assistant!” I have seen how much healthcare workers have positively impacted people, and that also really helped me to figure out “what I want to be when I grow up.”

Wouldn’t it be great to have too many paramedic students, so many that we have a waiting list for each course offered? In the growing field of emergency medical services, more and more emergency medical technician and paramedic courses are becoming available. This is why our collegiate institution needs to push to a higher level and become nationally accredited through the CoAEMSP. For a minimum investment cost, not only will this accreditation show potential students that we are committed to their education, and that our programs will provide them with the educational foundation that is now, more than ever necessary to have a successful career in EMS professions. As part of assessment for CSB330, students worked in small groups to demonstrate and record the correct application of ambulance equipment and perform five clinical skills. I worked in the emergency department for eight months before I first saw someone die. I watched how his eyes rolled back on the stretcher and within moments, I was staring at how the man’s chest would still forcefully rebound with each compression of his limp, naked body. I had not even realized forty minutes had passed. Looking down at my clipboard, I had still managed to get down the time points for each epinephrine that was fruitlessly pushed. Why was I nauseous?

I believe that in order to lead you must be able to learn how to follow first. Following will allow you to gain knowledge that will help you lead in the future. Serving is a big part of leadership because you must be able to help people. People put their trust into you to help them through their problems. As a leader you must be able to put other people’s problems ahead of yours.

A paramedic also known as “EMS” (emergency medical services) is a health care professional. They work out of the hospital environment, they perform a life-saving procedures. The typical job duties that a paramedics do are; helping a person with illness like heart attacks, severe allergic reactions and labor. The paramedics give a wide choice of medications to the patient that is in a life threating situation. If the patient responds from the CPR and medication, they’ll rush them to the hospital.

Originally the thought of sending stationed paramedics out into the community for scheduled visits with the homebound, or recently discharged patients sounded like a solid proposal. Having paramedics check on wound care, medication administration and general wellness of patients is a positive step to reduce unnecessary trips to the emergency department, clinics and doctor offices. However, the cost of these services would then lie solely on the ambulance services, using their employees, the gasoline and the wear and tear on the vehicles, when these services actually gain nothing financially from the home visits. In order for all services to benefit, the emergency services agencies would need to enter into agreements with the insurance companies

When I first began this process of discernment, I was indifferent. I was not happy about writing another term paper, but I was excited to do more research on the things that I love so much, enough to want to do it every day for the rest of my life. Choosing a career is a big decision for every teenager and especially when the fields have become competent. Everyone wants to have a career that can save them from lifetime challenges. Health care is the solution. There are a variety of positions available for all education levels and experience, as well a number of hospitals are expected to open over the next years. The High School students should choose a career in Healthcare, signifying that they can save their future from any downfall, as well other human beings lives for better.
