"You are truly benefit from the content you are studying, you may have to learn at a higher level than the mode of teaching in a class requires of you" ( Paul & Elder 2012,p.144). The purpose of my education is simple to prepare me for dealing with better educated individuals whether in an office or out in the field and compliment my twenty-five years of field experience. The quote I began my with is truly fitting for the degree which I am working towards in Emergency Services Medical Administration. This information that I learn from this class specifically will help me think before I speak and allow me to better focused not only on the situation but also the questions and answers that are constantly being asked. There are many questions
I agree with Walden University’s (2013a) view on social change that “Walden supports social change through the development of principled, knowledgeable, and ethical scholar-practitioners, who are and will become civic and professional role models by advancing the better of society” (para. 4). I plan to incorporate social change in my profession by applying my past work experiences and knowledge from school to become a better professional role model to my patients, co-workers and community. An example of one learning outcome for the Master of Science in Nursing is to “exhibit ongoing commitment to professional development” (Walden University, 2013b, para. 3). I am constantly trying to learn new ways to improve and better my knowledge and education. I recently obtained my Certified Emergency Nurse certification and will soon be taking the Certified Pediatric Emergency Nurse exam. I only hope that with my past experiences and my future knowledge gained at Walden University, I will be able to become a professional advocate and role model for the future of pediatric care and the patient population thereof.
S (situation): Hi, my name Kelsey and I am a nurse in the emergency department. I am calling about Shannon O’Reilly’s most recent laboratory results.
I agree with your comments on continuing education. I have to have X number of practical and lecture credits every three years to keep up my Paramedic license. This is due to the constant change in treatments/protocols and the need to keep up with these changes. Teaching, in my opinion, is no different and as technology changes, so does the methods used to deliver knowledge to students. I also, don't think this is something that warrants a college course, however could be something as simple as attending X number of education lectures/conferences. This is a good point and I am glad you brought that up.
In the essay "Top Ten Competency For Professional Emergency Management" Author B. Wayne Blanchard states, that Emergency Management requires collaboration from different organizations for it to be effective. Some of the organizations that a person is dealing with is Local and state and national level organizations. Some of the local organizations that communities deal with are American Red Cross, Cert (Community Emergency Response Team) and Emergency responders like the Fire Departments, and Police department. Some of our State and national organizations that we deal with are Fema (Federal Emergency Management Agency) and Homeland Security.
Even though the medical profession seems to be swamped with choices, you will find it difficult to select one good option for your needs when you actually need to choose one. It means that you need to pre-plan and take appropriate action accordingly that will help you in becoming a successful medical professional.
According to the Society of Emergency Medicine Physician Assistants (Society of Emergency Medicine Physician Assistants, 2013), the role of a physician assistant in the ED is to provide emergency care under the supervision of a licensed physician. The extent of care they provide varies by state law, facility policy, education of the PA, and how much the supervising physician feels comfortable delegating work (Britnell, Dodd, Vella Gray, & Brochu, 2015). For example, at Memorial Regional Hospital, the PAs working in the ED are allowed to perform I&D (incision and drainage of abscesses) and laceration repairs, but they are not allowed to perform intubations or place IVs under ultrasound guidance (Levy, 2016).
When I take a step back and look at the endless opportunities I will have as a Physician Assistant (PA) it truly amazes me. There are so many areas of clinical practice to choose from and at this point in my education as a PA student I am still unsure of where I will end up. However, the area of practice that I am currently most drawn to is emergency medicine (EM). What draws me to EM is that it is face-paced and team-oriented. In addition, not only do you get to see a variety of patients, but you also see a variety of diseases and injuries. This being the specialty that is of most interest to me, it is important that I understand what exactly being an EM PA encompasses.
The medical assistant should prepare the child by letting them know what is about to take place. This can help to emphasize that it might hurt for a few seconds but the pain will go away quickly. The medical assistant can engage with the child and make the feel like a partner in the procedure. An example of this would be, making the child feel like they are a big boy or a big girl buy given them the option of helping through the procedure with their cooperation. Sometimes it can be a simplified explanation, such as “keeping you from getting sick”, may possible be enough to gain and older child’s compliance. The medical assistant may be able to use a distraction such as quiets voices, songs, pacifiers or bottles.
I have spent most of my career in EMS learning, teaching or directly trying to combat death. During my time as an Instructor I wanted my EMT students to have an understanding of grief, death and the importance of what happens when calls don't have a positive outcome. I reached out to dozens of Coroners in the bay area asking them to come in and guest lecture with no response. By chance at a company party I met a man by the name of Charles Newman retired senior coroner with SF and SC county. I asked Charles if he would come and teach and he agreed. Charles recanted stories from his 30 thousand death investigations, some with gallows humor and some nothing short of horrible and after an hour or so of lecture Charles looked at the room and said
Medical assistants are permitted to obtain vital signs, subcutaneous and intramuscular injections, removing sutures, change dressings, and administer nebulizing treatments when delegated to do so by a physician. Due to protocol an advanced practice nurse, a physician or physician assistant must be on-site in order for a medical assistant to administer nebulizing treatments, intramuscular and subcutaneous injections, removing of sutures as well as changing of dressings. Medical assistants can obtain vital signs without an on-site physician being present.
As a tenth-grade student, I started my profession in Emergency Medicine at a local Community College in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT). Consequently, I volunteered in my local community as a new EMT and was exposed to some of the finest mentors one could ask for. After graduating high school, I joined the United States Marine Corps and completed a three-year enlistment without event and returned to civilian life. I immediately returned to Emergency Medicine as a paid employee and advanced my certification up to Paramedic and then became a Flight Paramedic in the early 1990’s. I was considered the employee who had the passion to keep learning and enjoyed sharing the information with others. Through constantly
My time spent in the Clinical setting, so far, has been extremely inciteful as to how to become a better educator in a classroom setting. Through the data I collected I was able to connect Borich’s Seven Variables of learning to the students. By being in the clinical setting for nearly two months, I have been exposed to new ways of thinking when it comes to structuring a classroom and instructing a classroom. Within this reflection you will find out how I would better plan an effective lesson for the pupils in my future classroom. You will also discover what I will do about certain issues in the classroom and how I will address/fix them.
I was nine years old when my family made the stannous decision to come to America; with only a few clothes and barely any money, the pursuit of the American dream seemed more like a fantasy than anything else. Ever since I was young, I was drawn to the medical field. Looking back, it all appears as a nightmare now: a cold room, no electricity, and my parents imploring for the nurses help. Yet this nightmare was my firsthand experience at the detrimental effects of a limited healthcare. Growing up in a poor town of Albania, I faced minor health concerns, but it wasn’t until I got sick with a common cold that my life almost ended. The unsanitary hospital condition and the lack of medications were part of the sad reality I could not escape from. Thus today, it is my goal to make a significant contribution to the health of the future generations. My passion for the medical field combined with my determination on building and perpetuating an outstanding healthcare service, has lead me to pursue a master’s degree in Health Administration
One day a couple years ago I was at daycare playing with my friends and it was a normal day. My mom soon called and said that my grandparents had been in a tragic car crash. Their car was totaled and my grandparents were not in good condition. They were soon rushed to the hospital and taken care of. They are doing fine today and still have their up-beat, friendly attitude. If not for those EMTs that were on the scene, sad to say, they probably wouldn’t be here today. I chose this topic because I want to help other become healthy again and to be around for there family. This paper will talk about why I wanted to do this job, other names for an EMT, summary of what an EMT does, the kinds of EMTs and what their specific job is, the qualifications, education path, salary, job findings, jobs related to an EMT, benefits, and if I still consider being an EMT.
This paper will examine the learning style of the writer and professional teaching philosophy, apply theories of learning to my philosophy, and provide an example of how my values and beliefs related to teaching and learning affect my role as a health care professional.
