A Career As A Community Assistant

I am writing to express my sincere interest in a Summer Associate position at Orrick’s Sacramento office. Spending another summer as a member of the Orrick legal team would be a remarkable opportunity to continue my development as an aspiring litigator, and to build upon the knowledge that I have gained during the 2015 Summer Associate program. I am particularly interested in continuing my legal career with Orrick because of the opportunities for professional growth that the firm provides, and the overwhelmingly positive culture. I am a strong candidate for this position as a result of my academic achievements, and because I personally espouse the core values that uphold Orrick’s unique culture.

As an Assistant Resident Engineer in the Winston Salem Construction Office, I assist higher level Engineers in the administration and implementation of roadway and structure construction projects. I also review proposed and active projects, both in the office and in the field, to assist and supervise as needed. I attend formal and informal meetings representing NCDOT to address project concerns, schedules and issues. Additionally, my duties include evaluating and reviewing reports to ensure we obtain accurate project records. I currently use HICAMS during the administration of for federal and state funded projects from project set up to the project final, including but not limited to the following: Material Received, Pay Records, Estimates

There are a variety of reasons that I am highly interested in becoming a community assistant for Barrett, The Honors College. As a Barrett student I have found that the Barrett community is one that is both inclusive and inspiring. It is my hope that as a community assistant I could help extend and enhance the unique Barrett community in the residence halls. Furthermore, I want to be a valuable resource and mentor for Barrett students. Additionally, I want to be a community assistant because service is something I am passionate about. Serving the Barrett community and its residents is something that I would thoroughly enjoy and excel at. I have gotten a taste of what it means to be a part of and a leader of the Barrett residential community through the Barrett Residential Council. This experience has been incredibly rewarding, and I would like to be able to get more involved with this community by becoming a community assistant. We were intorduced last June at the MACPA Student Leadership Academy at Towson University. We had spoken about the potential for a summer internship at Smith Elliot Kearns. I will graduate summa cum laude with my bachelors in accounting from Frostburg this May and will be attending law school this fall at the College of William and Mary. From since I was a young child I have always wanted to go into the field of Human Services. As I have grown I have decided that I would go into the Criminal Justice side of Human Services. By this I mean that I still want to help people, but I want to help people who have become criminals or who are on the path of becoming criminals. I especially want to help children and teens who have been in and out of a Juvenal Detention Center. From this passion I have decided that I want to go into one of three careers. These careers are as follows; Juvenile Defense Attorneys, Juvenile Counselor, or Juvenile Corrections Officer.

Within this field, there are a wide variety of jobs and titles. One such title is Community Support Specialist. Community Support Specialists with Singing River Services provide a crucial service to society because they guide homeless people through the many processes

I specifically chose this internship experience because previously, I held internships at Flood Law, a defense law firm, and the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office and I figured this internship is a progression. I was definitely interested in exploring the different areas in law to figure out what it is that I wanted and did not want to do and this internship, by far has helped me do that. This internship experience has shaped my career ambitions, as I will further go into detail during the duration of this paper, by allowing me to be exposed to the different areas of law, which then made me decide on what I found to be interested in and areas I did not so much

As for child welfare workers, they tend to be more associated with the field of criminal justice and law enforcement than social workers. Child welfare caseworkers have become responsible for implementing the policies and laws created to provide children with protection and permanent housing residence (Zell, 85). I am writing to express my interest in securing a position as an Intern for the House Judiciary Committee this summer. The internship was offered to twelve law students who demonstrated academic competency and a broad range of personal attributes including interpersonal and communication skills, commitment to teamwork, cultural sensitivity, leadership, personal drive and motivation. The internship was predominately based in Phnom Penh, and involved travel to Siam Reap, Battambang, and Ratanakiri provinces.

While most of my internship rotations are located in Los Angeles, California I will need to travel twice during my 10-month internship. In late June of 2017, I will be traveling to Greely, Colorado for a 3-day orientation at the University of Northern Colorado. I estimate about 1,000 in expenses.
