This novel was set during the post war period, this was a time when independence and rebelling against parents and law was more important than doing the right thing, during these times of independence, and teenagers needed friendship more than anything else.

Overall I would recommend reading this book because it is the first book that introduces the characters and story plot in the six book series. I gave this book four stars because it is a very good book and I want to read the rest of the six books in the series but it does not have a lot of action. I like this book because the characters are around my age, seventeen to nineteen. I can relate to the characters a lot and it is very nice to see that, besides protecting vampires and being vampires, they have a lot of the same problems in their life as any other high school student. I cannot wait to see where the other six books take me.

Like with To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before, I also annihilate this book. It is fast paced and very easy to get into the flow of the plot. Though at times, I find myself frustrated, but obviously I got over that nasty feeling.

In conclusion, this book is extremely well written, and you are sure to connect with at least one character. We feel for the characters, and there is excellent foreshadowing. The moments of action are portrayed amazingly.
