In the beginning of my educational career, I detested anything that pertained to writing: paragraphs, fill-in-the-blank sentences, and especially poetry. However, a 10th-grade English class changed my perspective on the necessity of conveying my thoughts onto paper with effectiveness, and writing became the cargo boat of my thoughts- the manifestation of my progressively maturing mind. I began to write daily- approximately 4 pages per day- and I developed a writing skill that my friends envy and a unique eloquence that their tongues could only wish to formulate on their own. As an extension of my 11th-grade AP English class, I read additional works of writers we learned in class from different periods- Emerson, Twain, Fitzgerald, and Thoreau-
In conclusion, we have learned a lot about diversities and different cultures in this English 1050 class, including all the different students that we learned about through the weekly discussions. I love to read the weekly post because everyone has different opinions that I can learn. I came from Asia and living in America, and I think in my life experience, I experienced a lot about the diversity and ethnicity issue. To change that and use Ethnicity to bring people together is the big issue nowadays. Might to find some common ground and realize we are all the same. At the very core of our being, we are people, and it is up to us to find ways we can unite and become stronger as a complete whole. Finally, thanks for everyone who fought with
As I began this journey of obtaining a college degree at the age or thirty-two, I was given advice by a professor that will stick with me forever. As I was creating an essay in English 101, Dr. Andrea St. John wrote that we must own our work. She stated, “This paper, as well as every assignment that is turned in, is a direct representation of who you are as a person.” Clicking on the link in the assignment instructions I was unsure of what I was tuning into, but this was the mindset I had when I began my assessment. Looking at three positive elements of the content, along with three elements that could be improved it will be discovered how well I feel that the speaker did on his presentation. Finally, it will be discussed positive and negative
When first learning about 1011 option I had bittersweet feelings about it, I love English but I’m pretty lazy. Pretty much being forced into the class I went in skeptical on the course and instructor, asking myself “ do I need this extra work load”? Unless learning is love for someone, I’m sure anyone with the same option to take this course would think similarly. I’m here to tell you that the 1011 course is a worthwhile option for students. The class community, additional supports in 1010, and one on one with instructors make this class an awesome option for any student.
I learned a very broad variety of English skills in my English 101 class. From the time of doing research before writing an essay, I wrote from the reader’s perspective, considering first what the reader would be benefited from hearing. I discovered methods of writing so that the reader would be able to easily follow my ideas and see connection between them. Along with that, I learned to actively read what others have to say, alter my writing based off of them, and courageously participate in the academic conversation. During this English 101 class, I acquired necessary English skills to participate in the academic conversation.
As long as I can remember, writing has always played a major part in my life. In the eighth grade at North Middle School I had Mrs. Parent as an English teacher. Not only did she have beautiful handwriting, which inspired me to mimic her writing style, but she had a natural love for teaching and assuring that I wrote about what came natural to me. When I got to Lima Senior High School, I was placed in accelerated English with Mrs. Stepleton. Although she didn’t have the best handwriting, she pushed me with every assignment. We read: A Tale of Two Cites, To Kill a Mockingbird, The Great Gatsby, and the Catcher and the Rye. All of which are voted on every top 100 best novel list I have ever seen. Not only did she push me to read these
Within the English III class, my former experience in creative writing and affinity for classical styles of literature shall more than likely provide the ability for growth within the classroom. As a person who values differing perspectives, my ultimate goal is to obtain a variety of perspectives involving those in the course, as well as the literary discussions relating to real world social perspectives and morality. As a student I am aware of the need to make great efforts in not only becoming involved with the material, but learning to understand and analyze various styles of writing and grammar. despite my lack of experience in English college courses, it will be the strides I make both inside and outside of the classroom that leave a
This year in English II CP, we are analyzing our class syllabus. The three main concepts that stand out to me are measurable course objectives, rules and expectations and the late work policy. This year we will have improvements of reading, writing, and grammar in this course. In this English II class, the three most important things are objectives, rules and expectations, make up and late work policy.
The grade I have earned in English 101 is an “A”. I have earned this grade as a result of the essays, corrections, and quizzes I haves completed throughout the semester. In addition, some fudge factors such as not having any absences and constantly participating in class help support the grade I have earned.
Initially, it can be hard to make friends in college. It is especially hard when people around us keep changing every semester. However, this semester was slightly different for me. Uniquely enough, I came to know some interesting people as a part of my English 101 class. As a part of the course curriculum, every student was assigned a group of random classmates to work as a peer editor throughout the semester. Eventually, me, Donnie, Stephen, and Elle Anna Rose landed in the same group. Our first interaction was short, and it was too limited to share all the information about one another. However, I realize that all of us have very different dreams, beliefs, and personalities that set us apart from one another. Apart from these differences,
Honestly, I did not completely understand the meaning of “composition” before taking this English course, nor did I ever give the word much thought. I was a little worried when I was told I needed an English course as a pre requisite to transition to my RN. I had not written an essay since high school, which was a good 15 years ago, and truly felt my ability to compose an essay was not where it needed to be in order to make it through this English course. I feel that the encouragement from my awesome support system has helped me make it past this course that I absolutely dreaded and was fearful of not passing. Taking time to study and being able to revise my essays made me realize that I had a lot to work on in order to complete a successful
I am a transfer student from Fresno City College, and this is my first semester in Fresno State. Since I was in City College, I have been took English composition which known as English 1A. Although, I realized that my writing skill have not reach into the point I satisfied yet. As I am a junior student, I need to take one more English class to complete my upper division requirement. The English 160-W or Writing workshop, this class has taught me a lot of strategies about how to become a good reader, good thinker, and good writer. my instructor Mr. Krongus has told me at the beginning of the semester, “this class is not like other writing class that need student to follow this or those style of writing, but this class you can write in the best strategy which you think you feel comfortable with.” this is the
I am immensely sorry that I have not handed in the current homework task and I understand that it is now overdue at this point. I had a clear understanding of what I was meant to do and had my notes in my notebook; however I chose to commit my time to other things instead of the English Homework.
In the third grade I was one of the few kids who still wasn’t able to read. I remember very clearly being embarrassed whenever my teacher told us to go read when we were done with our work because all I could do was look at the pictures. Somehow, despite being a late bloomer, I developed a love for reading. That love quickly turned into a love of the english language as a whole, and gave me the intense desire to write. Since I can remember I’ve always loved writing, no matter what type it was. Academic, creative, fictitious or non fiction, I’ve always loved it. Though I still do spend a lot of my time procrastinating at the start of an essay, I’ve always been able to manage to get something out that I’ve felt at least mostly proud of.
Expectations are the belief that someone will or should achieve something. It influences our actions and work ethic, as well as the outcome of our experiences. By having healthy and challenging expectations, we drive ourselves to become a more successful part of society. Furthermore, setting high expectations for ourselves in an academic setting can assist us in becoming more intelligent and determined individuals. This semester at Point University, I hope to set and achieve standards that will be beneficial to me, not merely for this semester, but also as I go on to continue my college education and adult life. I hope that in this English class I am able to enhance my writing skills, gain knowledge and advice from my instructor, and be able to complete this course with an exceptional grade and a healthy outlook.
Today was a misfortunate day for me. As I was on my way to class, my car tire had a blowout on the freeway. Being late was not a choice I was able to make. I know we can only have five absences before we receive an F for the course, but I want to inform you that I was not at fault this time and I am very determined to pass my class this semester.
