MBA 610: Leading Organizations and People

December 19, 2023
Upon reviewing my initial Leadership Development Plan that was created during the first
week of this course, my long-term goals remain the same and there have been no significant adjustments in order to achieve these goals. Within the next three to five years, I aim to transition
from accounting to finance and to become a supervisor or manager in that field. I had a conversation with my success coach about this goal and she agreed that it was a realistic goal that should be pursued.
The feedback I received throughout this course identified the need to improve upon my critical thinking skills and also the need to properly cite my sources. When reading through the assignments, I noticed that I went back multiple times to reread the instructions for further clarification and direction. This highlighted and reinforced the importance that there is a difference between critical thinking and thinking critically. I also needed to not only properly cite my sources but to consider the quality of the source itself in regard to the subject at hand.
Of all the different suggested readings within each section throughout this course, what stuck out the most was the section on management and leadership styles. Mainly how it talks about aligning a new leadership style to the new team dynamic. In order to be successful in the business world, there needs to be more of a team-oriented structure throughout organizations and
everyone adapts to new changes together depending on personalities and company dynamic. When developing into a leader it is important to not lead the way that will inspire oneself, but to lead in the way that will inspire others within the team. Successful management styles involve building teams, networks of relationships, and developing and motivating others. There is a greater emphasis on participative management styles and people management skills (Gale 2023).
