Peer mentor training at a firm. Peer mentoring occurs when a more experienced employee provides one-on-one support and knowledge sharing with a less experienced employee. The Journal of Managerial Issues (Spring 2008) published a study of the impact of peer mentor training at a large software company. Participants were 222 employees who volunteered to attend a 1-day peer mentor training session. One variable of interest was the employee’s level of competence in peer mentoring (measured on a 7-point scale). The competence level of each trainee was measured at three different times in the study: 1 week before training, 2 days after training, and 2 months after training. One goal of the experiment was to compare the
a. Explain why these data should be analyzed using a randomized block design. As part of your answer, identify the blocks and the treatments.
b. A partial ANOVA table for the experiment is shown below. Explain why there is enough information in the table to make conclusions.
c. State the null hypothesis of interest to the researcher
d. Make the appropriate conclusion.
e. A multiple comparisons of means for the three time periods (using an experimentwise error rate of .10) is summarized below. Fully interpret the results.

- A study investigated the relationship between audit delay and variables that describe the client and the auditor. The file Audit contains data from a sample of 40 companies on the following set of variables: Delay: The length of time from a company's fiscal year-end to the date of the auditor's report. Industry: A dummy variable coded 1 if the firm was an industrial company or 0 if the firm was a bank, savings and loan, or insurance company. Public: A dummy variable coded 1 if the company was traded on an organized exchange or over the counter; otherwise coded 0. Quality: A measure of overall quality of internal controls, as judged by the auditor, on a five-point scale ranging from "virtually none" (1) to "excellent" (5). Finished: A measure ranging from 1 to 4, as judged by the auditor, where 1 indicates "all work performed subsequent to year-end" and indicates 4 "most work performed prior to year-end." In the study, women were asked about their impact on the security posture of their organization. Twenty-eight percent of women indicated that their opinions are not valued. When comparing women who did not feel valued and women who did feel valued, the most substantial difference concerning training and leadership programs. Forty-seven percent of women that feel undervalued say their organization does not provide adequate training and leadership development resources, whereas 61% of women who do feel valued in their position indicate that their organizationdoes provide adequate training and leadership development resources. If a woman is selected at random and that woman indicates that her organization does not provide adequate training and leadership development resources, what is the probability that this woman…arrow_forwardAbsenteeism: Absenteeism can be a serious employment problem. It is estimated that absenteeism reduces potential output by more than 10%. Two economists launched a research project to learn more about the problem. They randomly selected 100 organizations to participate in a 1-year study. For each organization, they recorded the average number of days absent per employee and several variables thought to affect absenteeism. Management’s goal here is to analyze the data and determine which factors may be helpful in predicting absenteeism. Now let us build a model to predict absenteeism based on key independent variables available in this dataset; wage, PctPT, PctU, Av Shift and U/MRel. Correlation matrix is provided below. Why are the variables AvShift and U/MRel excluded from this correlation matrix? Which variable in the matrix is likely to provide the best simple linear regression model and why? Does the correlation matrix show any evidence of collinearity? Explain. Data:…arrow_forward
