Chapter 42.2, Problem 2SB
Summary Introduction

To review:

The mechanism of a target response to different hormones and also explain the mechanism when the same hormone produces different effects in different cells.

Introduction:

Largely, hormones come into contact with effectively all cells by moving in blood. Still, a specified hormone generally influences a restricted amount of cells known as target cells. The target cell counters to a hormone because it has receptors for the hormone. A cell may be considered as a target cell for a hormone only if it contains functional receptors for that hormone.

List the major categories of hormones on the basis of their chemical structure. Describe how hormones interact with tissues to produce a response. Describe three methods of regulating the release of hormones.
Explain how the same hormone can have different effects on two different target cells and no effect on a third type of cell.
Explain the situation where the same hormone could have two opposite effects on the body using different receptors (name them and describe specific signaling pathways and resulting outcomes)
