Summary Introduction

To analyze:

The reason for cooling the loop before touching it to culture. Whether the loop is set down for letting it cool and how to determine that it is cool.

Introduction:

An inoculating loop or just loop is a tool that is used to pick and transfer microorganisms from a culture to a new fresh growth medium. The loops used for one time only are the disposable loops made up of plastics whereas the ones made up of nichrome may be used multiple times by sterilizing them every time.

The benefits of the negative stain include: Mark all that apply: O No shrinkage or distortion of cells due to no heat or methanol fixing Because the cells don't take up stain they don't get shrunk or distorted O One can more accurately determine cell size and shape because the cells stand out against the background One can more accurately determine the cell size and shape because there is no shrinkage or distortion of cells O Negatively charged dyes are safer to work with than positively charged dyes IMicrosoft B 11:32 A
The functions of the loading dye are: (select all that apply) to prevent sample degradation as gel generates heat to make sure sample sinks to bottom of sample wells so that you can visualize the sample as it runs through the gel so that you can see your bands under UV light
Which of the following is TRUE about immunofluorescence microscopy where we localize proteins using fluorescently tagged antibodies? Pick the best answer: We can use it to resolve 2 points that are 10 nanometers apart. The emission wavelength of the fluorophore is typically shorter than the excitation wavelength. The resolution can be further improved with increased magnification. All else being equal, a fluorophore that emits red light will give better resolution than a fluorophore that emits green light. Based on what we discussed in class, we can use the technique on live samples therefore enabling us to see the dynamic movement of cytosolic proteins in living cells. None of the above
