Chapter 12, Problem 17TYK
Summary Introduction
To review:
The arguments that can be made by a lawyer to deny a person’s paternity based on a test of blood type, and whether the test could prove that the person is the father of the child.
Introduction:
A homozygous allelic pair is one that has the same genes with both coding either for dominant genes or for recessive genes. A heterozygous allelic pair is one that contains two genes, which code for dominant genes and recessive genes. In the case of multiple allelism or co-dominance, more than one allele can code for the same trait and can be dominant for the trait. The best example is ABO blood grouping.

Two claimant fathers filed a case against a lady claiming to be the father of her only daughter. How could this case be settled identifying the real biological father?
Blood types A and B are codominant, O is recessive. Rh factor is determined by a different gene. The allele for a positive Rh factor is dominant over the allele for a negative Rh factor. Based on this information, can a person with O+ blood have two parents with O- blood? Explain
7. Part II - Based on your results, what information could you provide the court that may be helpful in the case. (Show your analysis (Punnett squares) for determining who the father is.)
Below are two unrelated DNA paternity tests: one indicates the manis the father and the other shows he is not. Can you tell which iswhich? C/AF = Child/Alleged father in one lane combined.

Two women went to King Solomon claiming that they were the real mother of the living child, which happened to be born on the same night they both had labor. If the child has been identified with a blood type B, with a father recorded to have a blood type AB, which of the two women must be the real mother if one has a blood type O, and the latter has a blood type homozygous A?
