The Benefits of Immigrants Ever since 2001, when the tragedy of September 11th happened, many citizens in the U.S. have a fear of allowing immigrants into the United States. Some citizens judge that immigration is an impending threat to national security, and that the U.S. should close the borders up for good. The U.S. should not consider that because everything negative that occurs in the U.S. is not due to immigrants. The government can stop illegal immigration right now, but would it not affect the U.S. more to do so? Restrictionists claim that large-scale immigration, legal and illegal has depressed wages, burdened government resources, and acted as a net drain on the economy. However, if immigration is stopped completely the reduction of workers would cause the inflation of money to decrease therefore, causing the economy to plunge downward. People come to the U.S. to escape persecution from their country, work and make a living. Third world immigration is not a threat to America’s way of life because immigrants work, immigrants participate, and immigration already responds reasonably well to America 's economy. Thus, if immigration is eliminated, the U.S. would have fewer workers and the economy would not flow smoothly because the immigrant workers make the jobs and economy better. America should allow immigrants because they are essential to the growth of the American economy. Immigrants have a positive effect on the American economy because history has shown that
The United States of America (USA) has been one of the traditional receiving countries of immigrants (Friedberg & Hunt, 1995), and they do not take in too lightly of allowing immigrants violate its law and entering illegally to settle in its country without consequences. To date, millions of people have violated its immigration policies. The USA is also the economic leader of the world. It has been the notion that illegal immigrants are devouring up the US economy and for that reason they should be ousted. However, illegal immigrations have rooted into society since far back in history, and realized now, it is that illegal immigrants are not damaging the US economy; they contribute to it and their services costs
“Today's foreign immigrants account for approximately one-third of America's annual population growth, not only because of their large and increasing numbers, but also because of America's low birth rate (16 per 1000) and low fertility rate (1.8)” (Carlson). The current population of the U.S. is 212 million people, if one-third of them will leave, then a country’s economy will crash. The impact of the anti-immigrant laws have is completely negative, because if immigrants will go back home or will move to another country, the state loses workers and consumers who earn and spend money and pay taxes in the state. These taxes are the part of the country’s budget, which is distributed of the benefits for all residents of the country. The absence of immigrants will impact and loss in many different occupations and industries, from construction and landscape to finance and IT. Though some U.S.-born workers could fill some of those jobs, large gaps in several sectors would remain and cause a decline in the economy. The generations of immigrants have helped lay the railroads and build American cities, pioneer new industries and fuel our Information Age, from Google to the iPhone and society cannot just lose these people or not let potential ones of them enter into the country. The consequences of an anti-immigration law will cause to the recession of the
values, talents, and contributions of immigrants. People from all over the world seek the United States for just one honest reason, a better life and future. Most of the immigrant families and their children come from Mexico, Central and South America, and even Asia. These people enter the United States via one of three modes of entry, legal immigration, illegal entry, and as refugees. Because of their legal status, many immigrants are illegible to receive any type of public services such as healthcare and public education. This is something that has been going on for years, and many Americans feel that it is a fair thing to do. By actually providing illegal immigrants to have access to public services the United States could benefit a lot from it, starting with a healthier and safer environment, also, having access to public education will help the economy in the long run, and lastly, after obtaining a college degree, it is extremely possible for them to get a good paying job.
Although some argue otherwise, immigrants have a positive impact on our society. It is ironic how "within the country founded by Immigrants- Immigrant somehow become a bad word" (K'Naan). Although statistics prove that immigrants do bring overcrowding, drug trafficking, and diseases, they also impact positively on our economy and bring cultural knowledge. Being an immigrant in America is no easy task, they work long hours and most of the time have multiple jobs. Because the American dollar has greater value, immigrants will take any job that pays better than their home country. This often means they do the unwanted jobs of Americans. Immigrants fight hard to work their way to America with the American dream in mind, but once here that dream becomes very distant due to unexpected challenges they faced. In Valeria Luiselli book "Tell Me How It Ends: An Essay in Forty Questions", she addresses her experience as an interpreter for immigration court of the state of New York, discussing the stories she has heard with the immigration process. Throughout the book, she explains her view of the lack of sympathy and protection the United States has for the young immigrants. Her purpose to show the difficulties the immigrants go through - their sacrifice, resilience, and strength as they fight to survive and obtain a better life in America can also be seen in K'naan video - "The Hamilton Mixtape: Immigrants (We Get The Job Done)", through his use of symbolism everywhere in the music.
Economically speaking, immigration is beneficial for the American economy. Several arguments are given to try to prove this wrong. Some may say that immigrants take away jobs from Americans. But what jobs? Most immigrants work as maids or janitors, jobs that Americans do not want to do. What would the U.S. do without immigrants who are willing to do humiliating jobs for scarce amounts of money? Or maybe these critics of immigration are talking about the few amount of immigrants who want to excel and become successful? The anti-immigration people feel threatened and fear that these “minorities” will surpass the “native” Americans and they will no longer be able to control and manipulate these “ignorant, gullible immigrants.” Another argument is that immigrants receive more than their fair share of welfare benefits. But yet again in actuality immigrants pay their fair share of taxes. Julian
Being an immigrant in the United States is hard. People come here to work and bring their children, because there’s more opportunities here and the country is known for being a free land. But they are being sent back to a place where they don’t get the same things as they do here.Immigrants are also a big part of the U.S because most are in the fields, construction, landscaping, and all these jobs that are hard. Immigrants shouldn’t be deported because they are here to work hard, to help out their families and also live the American dream like any other.
Immigration has fueled the American society from the beginning of its creation. Without immigrants, there would be no America. From ones searching for religious freedom to others seeking economic prosperity, America would not be the successful country it is today without its foreign-born masses. This country has thrived on its people’s diverse contributions, and it has stimulated our economy greatly. It is the place, no matter who one is, to thrive in the acceptance of one another’s differences. Unfortunately, there are others that oppose the very thing that has made America what it is today. Despite certain disapproval, the impact immigration has on America is remarkably beneficial to the economy; this is evident when analyzing its positive effects on gross domestic product (GDP), wages and employment, and other economic contributions, which in turn has stimulated colossal economic growth for America.
The United States population is growing each and every second. “Americans manage to accept 1.2 million legal immigrants into the United States annually. Continuing that mass immigration guarantees an added 100 million people to the United States by 2035” (Wooldridge, par. 6 ). Although this immigration benefits the growth of the American society, some argue to build a barrier to completely stop immigration. In Dr. John Tanton's essay entitled “International Migration” he asks, "What restrictions are appropriate to today's world?”(par. 8). America is the result of years of immigrants adding to the economic growth of the country, and without changes to immigration laws it will have a negative impact on the country’s future. The United States government
Today, the need for immigration reform questions many economic, political and moral realities in our country. In particular, the current immigration reform as a major issue in the Latino community. Each area will be examined with an emphasis on how each is beneficial to the economy, as well as touching on the differences between the key opinions around immigration reform. Latinos make up a large portion of the people impacted by the outcome reform bill. The Migration Policy Reports, “Of the 53 million people who identified themselves as Hispanic or Latino, 36 percent (18.9 million) were immigrants.” This brings Latinos to a contributing 46 percent of the entire immigrant population in the United States in 2012, making them the most impacted demographic of this reforms outcome. Young Latinos continue to fight at the forefront of the battle for immigration reform today, and it is important to reflect on the past reforms alike to understand why the current immigration reform would be beneficial to our economy, and future of our country. The current immigration reform should pass through congress because of the economical benefits it is projected to provide to the US, supported by the effects of the history and outcomes of former immigration reform policies.
Recently the United States has experienced a large number of immigrants coming over to the country within the 2000s. In recent studies, there are about 11.5 million undocumented immigrants in the United States. The undocumented immigrant population has grown 27% between 2000 to 2009. Immigrants from Mexico make up 59% of the undocumented immigrants in the United States. These undocumented immigrants can help the economy and country grow. These undocumented immigrants do have some downside to them, which makes people question do they really help this country. Many people question if this is a good or bad thing for the U.S. economy or the country. Immigrants have helped the U.S. economy out a lot and propose more positives then negatives on
안녕하세요, السلام عليكم and bonjour! These are ways to say hello in Korean, Arabic and French. People from different origins come to seek and explore new places and that’s what has created this diverse world. Over the past 16 years, there has been many immigrants that moved to North America. Immigrants are people who go through governmental paperwork to travel to a different country and live there as a new citizen. There are numerous things that immigrants have provided for everyone in various environments. Immigrants have benefitted North America very much since the year 2000. Immigrants have benefited North America by helping people on a personal level, contributing to the economy, and creating diversity and influencing people in Canada and the United States of America. Because of the establishment of the foreign born people there is a variety of culturally distinct restaurants around, people with unique physical traits at every corner of the earth. There are many ways people have profited or made their wish come true because of others who came to settle in a different place to become one with the country.
Illegal immigration in United States is violation of U.S immigration laws by foreign nationalists who enter the country without government permission like visa or, remain within the country after lawful admittance beyond the period of authorized admission. This paper explains if illegal immigrants hurt the economy, job market, and public services like school and hospitals. Immigrants to US do not hurt the economy. In a perspective article, Davila (2006) insists that immigration can indeed be good for businesses. The reason why it is good for businesses because immigration supplies labor at a relatively low cost, though the real concern is how often that immigrants are paid low wages (Davila, 2006).
Throughout the 19th and 20th century America has made their decision indecisive on whether to allow immigrants to come to America or not, because of overpopulation and the destruction of the American citizenship. However, America was marketed as a free country and was a place for immigrants to start over, and have a better life. The immigration restriction act however, was passed in 1901, and restricted all immigrants from America. Immigration should not have been restricted in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s because America was advertised as a country full of opportunity for everyone and these restrictions would go against this principle. In 1880 an unknown illustrator draw a cartoon called, “Arc of Refugee”. In the cartoon the illustrator draws a reference to Noah's Ark, but instead of Noah and his animals which were supposed to be used to start a new life, it's Uncle Sam as Noah taking in a male and female immigrant from different countries for them to start over a new life a better life in America. We can also see in this message on the side of the arc, as the people continue to move ahead, signs saying things like ” no oppressive taxes” “ no expenses Kings” “ no compulsory military service” and “ no knout or dungeons” Also next to Uncle Sam it says, “ free education, free land, free speech, free valid, free LUNCH” (Arc of Refugee illustration). This is a resemblance of America advertising better things trying to persuade immigrants to come to America for better treatment and a better life. The illustrator of this drawing shows his opinion as being against immigration restriction because as we see in the image he has Uncle Sam welcoming immigrants for better lives and wants them to have all the perks of Living in America, like free education free land, free speech, free vote, etc. If immigration was restricted at this time the people coming to America for better right would have to continuously live as they were being deprived of their proper right and wouldn't be able to migrate. America can not advertise these perks of immigrating to America if they're going to restrict immigration. Later, in 1915, the US passed the literacy test act, this is when immigrants must take a test, and can only
Many Americans believe the nation has lost control of its boundaries. Concerned if immigration continues, the U.S. economy will suffer, and that employment will be scarce. Immigrants are flooding the welfare rolls and are heavily involved in crime. (Morganthau 18). The increase number of U.S. immigrants does affect the number of jobs available. The problem is, immigrants are either highly qualified (take American jobs) or are less than skilled in any field (increase welfare). The view on immigration today is one of a drag on the economy, instead of a lift (18).
In discussions of Immigration, a controversial issue is whether Immigration reforms laws should be stricter, while others argue that the United States should make it easier for immigrants to legally live and work here. Those who argue on making immigration laws stricter, an article by FEE (Foundation for Economic Education) debated and stated that “Immigrants will take our jobs and lower our wages, especially hurting the poor. They also” believe that immigrants are taking the jobs that are meant for others. The reason I believe it’s a great time to start inquiring into the issues about immigration is because of our current president and our current economic state.
