As cited from article “Why Police Can’t Be Trusted to Decide If Video Should Be Public” by Conor Friederdorf , The killing of an unarmed man in Gardena California is a perfect example of why police could not be trusted. Trust is perceived in nearly every aspect of one’s daily lives. With trust, one is able to build more relationships with others because one is able to share a part of their life. There are different kinds of trust which is trust in family, trust in friends, and how fragile trust really is.
One’s trust in family is a big importance because one lived with them from birth until one matures. Most of one’s secrets during one’s childhood are known by one’s family and are trusted to keep them. One has grown attached to family because they are the closest therefore they are the first to know one’s deepest secrets most of the time. Trust is the ability to

Friendship is a necessary aspect of every human’s life. Friends will not let other friends make bad decisions and will expect others to do the same for them. Trust can be proven to others by doing the right thing even when one is not asked. If others know that one can handle the responsibility and can manage to do the right thing, they will not hesitate in providing support and friendship. However, when the trust between two people have been broken, the friendship and trust is also broken.
One characteristic that makes trust unique is its fragility. To gain the trust of others, one must continuously prove one’s honesty and reliability. To gain complete trust of someone can take years, but can be lost in a single moment. An example of how delicate trust can really be is in marriage. The married couple must constantly be honest with each other to gain real trust. This bond can be easily broken if one of the spouses is caught cheating. Trust in another person can make one feel loved and supported, while broken trust can lead to the feeling of anger and
Some people find it easy to give trust, but many people find it difficult to trust. For them trust
The concept of trust is an idea everyone toys with in their lives at one point. One may think that trust is based of moral values between a trusting relationship. But it can be more complex than many may think. Trust by definition is the “firm belief in the reliability, truth, ability, or strength of someone or something”(1.). To many, it is the bases of a relationship. People trust one another because they teach one another or they love one another. Whatever the case, trust is an essential piece to a relationship. But it’s Implied that both parties don’t take advantage of that trust. This idea is discussed in literature such as in the novel Indian Horse. Throughout Saul’s Journey in the novel Indian Horse he learns about trust by experiencing it as reality then as an illusion and finally as a choice he must make.
What is trust? The dictionary meaning of trust is a firm belief in the reliability, truth, ability, or strength of someone or something. The second meaning is, confidence placed in a person by making that person the nominal owner of property to be held or used for the benefit of one or more others. But what can we really define as trust? In this paper, I will discuss how trust is used every day in different situations, how we deal with trust in various relationships, and how we as individuals practice trust within ourselves.
Since these multiple cop shootings and cases of police brutality, many people have lost faith in the police force and do not trust nor respect them. In a survey from about a year ago, people were asked how the police do on holding other cops accountable for their actions, and 65% of the respondents said the police do a poor job of doing so.(Chumley) In an editorial about a New Jersey police chief pondered why nobody trusts the police anymore, Deo Odelecki gave this explanation “I don’t know what to tell you chief. It’s not us pointing out all the disrespectful, violent things cops do every day that is making you look bad. It’s the cops doing those disrespectful violent things and chiefs, like you, covering up for them that is making you look bad”(Odelecki). This sums all the police mistrust in one quote, police committing violent and unnecessary things and other police officers trying to cover it up. If the police were to wear body cameras and fix their behavior, the trust in police would eventually be
Since a very young age we have been taught to put our trust into police officers. If we are in distress, they are always there to help since it is their job to protect and serve the common citizen. So what happens when the individuals we are supposed to trust to bring justice are the ones causing the injustice we see in the news? Recently, several police officers have been under fire for their excessive use of force. The number of casualties caused by police officers in the recent years have citizens demanding a reform in the system that officers work under.
Human vulnerability stems from mistakes in conversation and trust comes from our vulnerability. Vulnerability in relationships comes from the mistakes that we make. Mistakes are what Turkle points to as being the reason for relationships being rich and messy (42). We make mistakes because we have to translate how we think into something that other people can understand. Communication is getting over that translation and the mistakes that we make are a part of
This will give insight as to why having trust is difficult to maintain. My first
Pillar one references to building a bridge which joins the community and law enforcement together. Building trust and legitimacy between police and citizen play a fundamental role in the law enforcement agencies as well as the communities they serve. Many studies have shown and proven that people/citizens will uphold the law/s of the country when the ones who have the authority to enforce the law are proven to be legitimate. Law enforcement officer will not gain the trust of the people/ community if they are view as controlling and corrupted. The community on a whole wish for a guardian rather than a warrior within the police force. The mindset of all police officer should be to gain the trust and legitimacy within their community. To build
The police have lost trust among the people they serve. This is because of the controversial use of excessive force when handling people. In some
In recent years, society has heard cases of police brutality at an increasingly shocking rate, thus creating a sense of distrust among communities towards police officers and other authority figures. As the first line of defense against crimes such as home invasions or crimes against persons, police officers are expected to be an ally towards victims; however, it seems that society is now viewing officers as the perpetrators of crimes as opposed to the protectors. This has already posed an issue because community members are choosing not to seek police help when needed, and when they do decide to seek help, forgoing police assistance results in being uncertain of where else to go.
Having trust makes one fell safe and free of fear enough so that they can focus on other things.
When I hear the word trust I think of friends. You have to have a lot of trust in your friends and they need to be able to trust you. I have a huge amount of trust in my best friend, I tell her everything. There are some people who say that you can trust them, but then it turns out that you can’t and they’ve told everyone your secret. I think that trust is confiding in a person or people that you know if you say, “don’t tell anyone,” they won’t tell anyone. For instance, in Romeo and Juliet, Friar Laurence kept Romeo and Juliet’s trust by not telling anyone about their marriage. I think that Romeo and Juliet trusted each other enough
It is not something we just give away or created by feelings or emotions. Trust is something which we need to earn. To keep the relationships, we must be a trusted person. We meet with people in everyday life, but our friends and loved ones are special. We can love any people we meet in our daily life but the relationships want trust. Trust, so that we can share our secret, happiness, sorrows. To give our hundred percent in any relationship, we need the believe that they feel the same for us. In any situation, if we fall down, they will come to save us, this is called trust. Most of the time, family members are the most trusted person in our life. Also, friends and lover earned the trust from us by staying with us, by telling us the truth. Sometimes, lovers lie in the beginning of a new life, they hide things to save relationship, but it is not the way to keep a relationship. Truth can never be hidden, it will come up and we won’t be able to handle the outcome if we broke the trust they had. We should be as trust strengthen a relationship, also there can’t be a relationship without
Trust is a value that was very hard for me to learn. I was always afraid that someone was going to hurt me one way or another. My mother was always telling me that I should learn to trust others so that they could help me from time to time, but I never could do it. Eventually I finally learned to trust others a few years ago. I have realized that other people can do many things for you if you just trust in them. This helps me in the relationships I have with my friends. Trust doesn’t happen overnight, it takes time. I have learned that trusting certain people is worth the risk, and helps the relationships I have with them.
In the first place, we can always trust our family’s members. When we have a trouble and we need some help, who will help us first? Of course, our family’s members.
