Utilities and Municipal Government in Penticton
The municipal government of Penticton has worked hard to make it one of the most livable cities in the Okanagan. The broad vision statement and growth plan of Penticton coupled with excellent use of green space and its focus on creating a tourist friendly destination have attracted many new residents to this forward-thinking city.

City Council

These services include garbage and recycling collection, water treatment and public works.
Garbage, Recycling and Yard Waste
All residents of Penticton receive weekly curbside garbage collection. Penticton is also part of the province wide recycle BC program that allows residents to recycle a host of items in their blue bin for bi-weekly curbside pickup. For residents who receive curbside garbage collection, the city of Penticton also offers bi-weekly pick-up for yard biproducts during the months of March – December. Yardwork items can include:
• Organics such as grass or yard trimmings.
• Tree branches, pine cones or fruit droppings.
• Kitchen scraps and food waste are not accepted.
Energy/Electricity
All of Penticton’s residential and commercial electricity needs are provided by BC Hydro – a provincially owned resource. Each residence is charged for their electricity use based on their consumption and monthly usage. The city is part of the energy awareness campaign and does encourage residents to make power smart

The governing core of South San Francisco is the city council, which creates municipal laws and the overall policy, decides how to expend treasury, assigns members to all consultative local businesses and represents the city officially. The city council`s members are Richard A. Garbarino as a mayor, Mark N. Addiego as a vice mayor, Pradeep Gupta, Karyl Matsumoto and Liza Normandy.
On November 26, 1862, the Union army arrived in Falmouth, Virginia and across the Rappahannock River was Fredericksburg where the Confederate forces had fortified the hills behind the city. They would stay in Falmouth until December 11 when they bombarded Fredericksburg on December 13 and moved into the destroyed city, but the Confederates were in the hills. The next day the 44th New York, Orsell’s regiment joined the Third Brigade as they attempted to capture the Confederate’s position. They moved through the hills and ravine trying to avoid sniper and cannon fire, but they had to take cover behind a small rise in the ground and spend the night there in the mud. Melba Patillo was kicked, beat up, and had acid thrown in her face. At some point during school white students burned an African-American effigy in a vacant lot across from the school.
In 1957, Little Rock, a town in Arkansas, was one of the first places in the south to have integrated schools. The Little Rock Nine was a group that started the desegregation process. They were a group of nine African-American boys and girls who were going to integrate Central High School. This caused many problems with segregationists because they did not want their schools integrated. Segregationists created mobs around Central and did many things in protest. At Central many of the African-American kids experienced bullying. As a result, they fought through the bullying and pursued. Photographs, television, and newspapers were all news mediums used to illuminate events surrounding the Little Rock Nine even though they weren’t always correct.
One “key event” of the American Civil Rights Movement occurred when nine African- American students enrolled in an all- white Central High School in Little Rock, Arkansas on September 4, 1957. (History). Although, in 1954 the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that segregation in public school was unconstitutional, integration was not common at the time and many people were upset with the changes including the governor, Orval Faubus (History). This essay will present information on the life and achievements of the students that were apart of the Little Rock Nine.
Imagine it being the first day of school and seeing a mob of white teenagers your age not letting you in the school, just because you were “colored”. Well back then … all the colored were used to threats, to eyerolls, and to mental and physical hurting by the white. Desegregation was a huge impact for the children and the education. There was segregation in buses, parks, shops, public restrooms, especially in schools, there was an all-white school, and an all-black school. West Virginia is home to More than 1.85 people. In West Virginia about 82% is livestock and 18% is crops. This state was separated from Virginia State during the civil war. West Virginia is located in the middle of the Appalachian Mountains.
There are many ways that the press worked to clarify events for the national audience from the Little Rock Nine. The Little Rock Nine was a group of nine black children who wanted a chance to go to Central High School for educational purposes. What they didn't know was that there were segregationists who would do everything in their power to make sure the black students wouldn't have the experience they wanted at Central. The media took these moments to make news that everyone would see and know about.
Although short and non-eventful, the battle of Hampton roads, during the Civil war, showed the world the future of warship construction, forever changing Naval Warfare. After visiting the past through the museums exhibits, I believe in order to understand this battle in its entirety, one must not only look at the battle itself but the events leading up to it.
The city is administered by Sylvester Jones, Jr. Mr. Jones was appointed by Mayor Karen Weaver in March of 2016. The City Administrator is the most senior non-elected city official and is responsible for running the day to day operations of the city on behalf of the City Council. All other department heads directly report to the Citiy Administrator.
One way to see public administration in action is by attending a city council meeting, whether it be in an urban or rural area, public administration still has a part in each event. As Kettl (2018; p. 244) referenced in his book, there is not a civil system that would be sustainable without strong leadership. This paper will discuss the author’s description, observation, and reflection during a city council meeting.
I chose to attend a city council meeting for this assignment and was very surprised at what I witnessed. The city council served an important purpose and the meeting actually accomplished many important goals. Among the interesting things that I saw at the council meeting were the people who attended, the people who presented, the people who sat on the council, and the subjects that were being voted upon in the meeting.
