Chapter 7, Problem 1DQ
Summary Introduction
Interpretation: Potential disadvantages of critical path methodology
Concept introduction: Critical path methodology is a network analysis approach in project management to find the sequence of activities that has the least resilience and can create a bottleneck situation.
Expert Solution & Answer
Explanation of Solution
Potential disadvantages of the critical path methodology:
- Labour resources are not considered.
Scheduling and allocation of personnel to different activities is not considered here. - When a critical path approach is useful in new project management, it fails during big projects where the activities and the resultant path can get complicated.
- Drawing a critical path in project management is a time-consuming process.
- Critical path method can fail miserably if the data collected is erroneous.
- If a lot of improvisation is involved, then the critical path will not be a suitable method.
