Interpretation:
The reasons for increase in rate of effective collision on increasing temperature are to be stated.
Concept introduction:
The molecular collision theory states that two reacting molecules collide in proper orientation with each other to form new products. Some amount of energy is required to break bond between two atoms. A reaction takes place when old bonds are broke and some new bonds are formed.
Answer to Problem 1CE
On increasing the temperature, the collision frequency and collision energy increases because of which the rate of effective collision increases.
Explanation of Solution
On increasing the temperature, there is an increase in the rate of effective collisions. There are two reasons to justify this increase in rate of collisions. First, on increasing the temperature the collision frequency increases, that is the molecules move with a higher speed and more likely to collide with each other. Second, on increasing the temperature, the molecules have gained sufficient energy. Due to this gain in energy, the previous bonds can be broken easily and new molecules can be formed easily.
The increase in collision frequency and collision energy on increasing temperature increases rate of effective collision.
