Woolsey Hall On Saturday evening, the Yale Symphony Orchestra delivered its final performance of the fall in the cavernous Woolsey Hall, featuring guest conductor Andreas Stoehr and mezzo-soprano Janna Baty. While the concert’s title was full of alliteration (Beethoven, Berg, and Brahms), the music itself was devoid of repetition and predictability, with vast dynamic and melodic contrasts highlighting the performance. To begin the concert, the orchestra delivered a strong rendition of Beethoven’s
and I attend the Harrisburg Symphony Orchestra’s November Masterworks symphony conducted by Stuart Malina on November 13, 2016 at The Forum. I never attended a symphony before, so I was nervous about what we should wear and if we could find are seat. I expected the audience to be in their best clothes. The men in tuxedos with top hats on and the women in lavishing gowns with pearl necklace. My experience sure enough prove me wrong in many ways than one. The symphony started at three pm so I thought
The Grinnell Symphony Orchestra’s concert with cowboy singer Dave Stamey was billed as an intriguing and thought-provoking junction between the genres of classical and Western. The mix of traditional cowboy music and orchestral arrangement had the potential to highlight the strengths of the performers and genres; it was certainly interesting to hear songs typically performed solo being played with a full orchestra, but a number of red flags popped out immediately and ended up spoiling the experience
Not knowing what to expect when I took my seat at the Atlanta Symphony Hall, I was anxious. I loved hearing any classical music come over the radio for a few seconds as one of my parents turned the knob on the radio while driving. No matter how hard I wished for the knob to stop turning, it never did. The only real experience I had with classical music was during Music class at school and the one teacher who played records in her room during quiet times. But this day was something special. My sister
I recently got to hear a few works at the Dallas Symphony Orchestra. These compositions were written by Richard Wagner, Igor Stravinsky, and Antonin Dvorak. I had a wonderful time and a great experience. The pieces were played very well by the orchestra and Daniel Muller-Schott. Also, the conductor, Jun Markl, seemed very passionate and involved, and I liked the fact that he acknowledged when one of the performers did a good job. The concert was well received by the audience as a whole and myself
Illinois Philharmonic Orchestra Concert on October 14th featured three pieces; The Birds, Concerto for Violin, Cello, Piano, and Orchestra in C Major, and Symphony No.5. All the pieces were lovely and were entertaining to listen to. This concert also featured the Hersh Trio, comprised of Alexander Hersh on the cello, Stefan Hersh on the violin, and Paul Hersh on the piano, which the orchestra accompanied for one piece. The first piece played by the Illinois Philharmonic Orchestra was The Birds composed
attended the performances of the University Symphony Orchestra, with guest soloists Trio 180, comprised of Professors Miller on violin, Flyer on cello, and Leong on piano, along with having the pleasure of an intermissionary lecture about the possible survival of Beethoven and Schubert with the help of modern medicine led by Professor Blankenship from the School of Pharmacy. Before the first piece, Principal Violin Vogel led the tuning of the orchestra in the traditional B flat. Trio 180 then emerged
bad they in Paris in still better than a good day anywhere else.” Popular quote. It was the first time that I would assist to a Symphony Orchestra concert and I was excited for this new experience. Pictures at a French Exhibition sounded like an artistic exposition of French pictures, instead was a repertoire of various pieces interpreted by the Virginia Symphony Orchestra. The event took place at Chrysler Hall in Norfolk city in a perfect Sunday afternoon. When my husband and I arrived were guided

Boston Symphony Orchestra at his inaugural concert. This was a concert that featured orchestral music with the accompaniment of one singer and then two during certain songs. The concert specifically included what is known as a symphony orchestra. A symphony orchestra is “an ensemble of strings coupled with an assortment of Woodwinds, Brass, and Percussion instruments” (Forney, Dell’Antonio, Machlis, 51). That is exactly what the Boston Symphony Orchestra consists of. Every symphony orchestra is different
