Animal Athletes
Different animals have very different capacities for running. A horse can maintain a top speed of 20 m/s for a long distance but has a maximum acceleration of only 6.0 m/s2, half what a good human sprinter can achieve with a block to push against. Greyhounds, dogs especially bred for feats of running, have a top speed of 17 m /s, but their acceleration is much greater than that of the horse. Greyhounds are particularly adept at turning corners at a run.

If a horse starts from rest and accelerates at the maximum value until leading its top speed, how much time elapses, to the nearest second?
A. 1 s
B. 2 s
C. 3 s

- You are asked to double the acceleration of a billiard ball (pool ball). Describe how you will have to change the original force to do this. Explain/show how Newton's 2nd law helps you to get the correct answer. Use complete sentences! A. You will have to apply 2 times the original force B. You will have to apply 3 times the original force C. You will have to apply only 1/2 the original force D. Question 14 Question 14 of 20 Save Answer A car is travelling at the speed of V m/s on a straight, level road. After the brakes are applied at t = 0, the motion can be approximated by s = (1/100)(t^3) - t^2 + 20t, where s is the distance traveled in meters, and t is the time in seconds. Determine the distance (meters) required for the car to stop. Round off 1 points to one decimal place. A Moving to another question will save this response. «< Question 14 of 20 29°C Rain sho...
