Order of a reaction:

Order of a reaction is the power of the rate on the concentration of each reactant.  Order of a reaction is an experimentally determined one.

Rate of the reaction is:

    r=k[CH3Cl]x[H2O]y.

From the table,

Divide the equation (3) by equation (2),

    r2=k[CH3Cl]x[H2O]y=k[0.200]x[0.200]y=1.45-------(2)r3=k[CH3Cl]x[H2O]y=k[0.200]x[0.400]y=5.81-------(3)r3/r2=k[0.200]x[0.400]y/k[0.200]x[0.200]y=5.81/1.45=4.00=22y=2.

Order is 2 with respect to H2O.

Divide the equation (2) by equation (1),

Therefore the order of the reaction is 1 with respect to CH3Cl.
