Summary Introduction

To determine:

The gene that is present in the middle when interrupted conjugation was used to map three genes in E.coli. The donor genes first appeared in the recipient cells at the times: gal, 10 minutes, his, 8minutes; pro, 15 minutes.

Introduction:

The bacterial genes can be map by using conjugation in which they are mixed Hfr and F^- cells of different genotypes and interrupting conjugation at regular intervals. The relative position of the genes on the bacterial chromosomes is identified by the amounts of time required for individual genes to be transferred from the Hfr to the F^- cells.
