Summary Introduction
The spleen is the largest organ of the lymphatic system that resembles a lymph node. It clears bacteria, cellular debris, and other pathogens from the system by filtration. The spleen is present in the left upper quadrant above the stomach and under the ribcage. It comprises of red pulp, that acts as a site of destruction for old or damaged RBCs and the white pulp, filled with T and B immune cells. Spleen usually increases its size to store blood but, an unusual increase in its size is reported as splenomegaly.
