To analyze:
In the given case, a football player was injured during a match. His leg was twisted and his knee joint swelled up. The injury was accompanied by a sharp pain and he was unable to walk during the latter half of the day. He was advised by his coach to visit a doctor who would drain the water from his knees. Determine the meaning of sentence “water in the knee” and reason for the condition of Jeremiah's knee after an injury.
Introduction:
The knee joint is more damage prone because of its mobility and complexity. An injury may cause swelling in the knee. This can occur either due to damaged blood vessels, synovial membrane, a fracture, or rupture of ligaments. Sometimes, an injury may cause an increase in the synovial fluid of the knee joint and this condition is known as “water in the knee” or knee effusion.

- The menisci in the knee joint can be torn for a variety of reasons. Considering the structure of the menisci, would you expect these tears to heal on their own? Why or why not? a.The medial meniscus is attached to the tibial collateral ligament, so fibroblasts in the ligament can divide and differentiate into chondrocytes to repair the meniscus. b.Menisci tears do not heal on their own because the menisci are composed of hyaline cartilage and do not have an extensive blood supply. c.Menisci tears do not heal on their own because the menisci are composed of fibrocartilage and do not have an extensive blood supply. d.Menisci tears can heal quickly because of the nutrients surrounding them in the synovial fluid.arrow_forwardThe text says that 28 bones are in the skull; 8 bones form the cranium, and 14 bones form the face.
