A ride sharing app has decided to promote a new category of cab drivers by tweaking the app so that customers are first prioritized to these set of drivers before others. However, they decide to make a full disclosure regarding this to their customers at the time of accepting the booking. Cab drivers have a right to reject a rider, but a small penalty is levied on customers through a small additional charge for accepting a cab from a different category. What are the key ethical issues that you anticipate? If you were working for the ride sharing app, would you have handled this requirement differently?
A luxury can be defined as something that is an indulgence, rather than a necessity. Most people in the world would view items such as food, shelter, and water as necessities. In the United States, many would likely add electricity and indoor plumbing to that list. Today, many individuals are beginning to view Internet access as a necessity. But is it really a necessity—that is, essential for existence? If so, what about the individuals who do not have Internet access or those who choose not to use it? How might the perception of Internet access being or not being a necessity affect the growth of e-commerce?
A luxury may be described as anything that is enjoyed as a pleasure rather than as a necessary expenditure of money. Food, shelter, and water are considered needs by the vast majority of people across the globe. Many people in the United States would probably add electricity and indoor plumbing to that list as well. Many people nowadays are starting to see Internet connection as a need rather than a luxury. Is it, however, really a necessity—that is, something that is required for survival? If this is the case, what happens to people who do not have access to the Internet or who prefer not to utilize it? What impact could the impression of Internet connection as a need, or as a luxury, have on the development of e-commerce?

A movie typically lasts two hours. Usually when you speak with one of your friends, you also spend two hours talking. However, during these two hours, you can discuss multiple movies your friend has seen. Address the dilemma in each of the following two cases: For each movie, you are debating to either see it or speak to all of your friends and hear their recommendations. You only have a total of t hours. You have two choices: a) Design a polynomial-time algorithm for choosing t/2 recommenders, or b) prove that the problem is NP-hard. Decide between the two choices and explain your decision with mathematical rigor. A more efficient approach is to choose between watching the movie and speaking with at least one…arrow_forward

They seem very similar: in both, you compose a message, and when it’s ready, you send it; and when someone else sends something to you, you receive it on your device and can read it. But in practice, email and IM can be surprisingly different; each has its own rhythm, its own strengths and weaknesses, its own sociology, its own etiquette. Instant messaging is like using the telephone, whereas email is more like corresponding by letter. Which medium is more appropriate for which kinds of relationships and communications? Which medium is more stressful to use? Which takes more time? Which is more convenient for you? Which one is more useful for getting real work done?
